>tfw W530's are at least $350 on my country and are advertised as "GAYMING ULTRA POWERFUL WORKSTATION MACHINES!1!1!!1!1!!!!"
It hurts

summer setup time...

Attached: 20190516_173946.jpg (4032x2268, 3.84M)

ask them what games it can run

They advertise them using a stock image of Fortnite with the specs glued on top
So far the cheapest one I've found has:
>i7-3820QM
>8 GB RAM
>180 GB SSD
>1080p screen
for about $415.
Really the only reason I'm considering a W530 is because that 1080p screen is calling me and overall, importing all of the upgrades necessary for my T530 (screen, processor, etc) would run me about the same price

Should I get an X240? It's only about $250

Attached: 1557085846276.jpg (540x425, 83K)

New X1 extreme is going to have 4k hdr.

Only if you're going to completely spec it out, and can't be bothered doing an FHD mod on an x230

>Only if you're going to completely spec it out
Is it that bad? Should I get an X230 instead?

Is soldered shit really as bad as everyone says it is? I really have my doubts about buying a nupad

Only thing it does better is FHD as a standard option, and it's a bit thinner with a 3 cell. X230 is just a nicer machine, especially with the mods you can do

Cool, I just get X230 instead then

Smaller lighter faster better battery life nvme pcie ssd thunderbolt usb-c charging AC wifi...

I mean, you would have to be fucking retarded to buy xx30 or even xx40 shit its already depreciated.

>Smaller lighter
Non-issues for me
>Faster
Anything can be faster and feel factory new with an SSD
>Better battery life
In exchange for processing power
>NVMe PCIe SSD
Regular SATA III SSDs are good enough. This form factor was originally meant to be used as scratch disks for Photoshop and other similar programs
>Thunderbolt
Isn't it dead by this point?
>USB-C charging
A meme brought to life by Fagpple
>AC WiFi
I've seen this memed a lot, what's the benefits? Besides, where I live BGN is still standard
Use some fucking comas, for fuck's sake

>Regular SATA III SSD are good enough.
You say that but copying multi-gigabyte files in a second instead of a minute makes a fucking huge difference.

N is fucking garbage dude, nobody's internet is even that slow anymore. AC has enough bandwidth to not shit itself when someone loads youtube.

When using one hand with the trackpoint, the ultranav middle button doesn't recognize presses most of the time. When I press it vertically or from below instead it works. Anyone has had this kinda issue? I guess it's worn out or the membrane has some problems. Nothing is struck in there

Why does blatant consumerism just hit me? I got a x131e for free, then bought a x230, now I want a t440p with everything(quadcore,1080p,16 gb,ssd+hdd combo)

All I use my laptop was for school and watching shows online. That's it, rarely videogames, and thats mostly source games like tf2, and l4d1. How much should I spend for a t440p maxed out, living in the USA, I'm thinking around 180-250?

a 4700mq - $100
16gb ram - $60-70
500gb sata ssd - $60-70
1080p screen - $50 (compatible)-75(IPS)

It's the memes, user, they're contagious and hit hard
Right now I'm thinking about getting a X131e just for the lulz and as a email machine

Add the fucking E series to the post already they are good enough now look at the E580 or E590.

x201 cutest cutepad

Attached: 1550414424227171.jpg (1740x2320, 2.85M)

t420s arrived loving it so far anyone have any recommendations for modifications

bruh just ignore the local retard:

Attached: chadpad.jpg (758x644, 64K)

Is the T400 still worth it?

Why are your titlebars so thicc?

I just purchased a x220 and installed ubuntu on it yet the wifi cannot find my SSID but finds others

Ive checked my router and both 2.4/5ghz are enabled
The wifi card it came with was a Intel Centrino 1000

i think it's due to screen res every open box theme i tried is like that

Attached: screenshot0463.png (1920x1080, 1.5M)

Is this a good deal for my first laptop? Just need it for school work and browsing.

Attached: Screenshot_20190516-172756.png (1080x2270, 483K)

>L series
>0 GB SSD

Attached: 1555293037263.png (565x541, 157K)

I was gonna add my own ssd as well. What's wrong with L series? What's a better alternative?

L series Thinkpads are basically T series only without the durability and usually come more expensive for worse specs because businesses only really focus on buying T, P and X series, meaning less used L series on the market written off as tax-cuts.

Just bought my first thinkpad today, a T61, very pleased with it so far, had to put XP on it cause the fucknut of a woman i bought it from had installed win10

If using libreboot, yes

It's a shit T440. Get a T440. Or a T420 if you want best keyboard and can't be arsed to put the effort in to stick it in a T430.

Tbh i never knew there was such a hype for them until 10 minutes ago when i saw this board, just always wanted one and found a cheap one in my area. only shilled 60$ for it

60 is fair enough, libreboot that bad boy, pick a linux distro and fight the power like Stallman would if he wasn't busy chewing at toe cheese.

Get a t440s. They should be cheap af

Complete newfag question here, why use linux?

Unironically no reason other than its a lighter OS than modern Windows so older spec systems aren't bogged down.

I just opened the box on my brand new P52. I checked that it worked then powered out of windows and installed an ssd in nvme slot 0. When I launched the debian installer only the ssd is in hdd list. I checked in the bios too and dont see the hdd...am I missing something? Would an nvme ssd disable hdd?

Seems neat, womt be using it for gaming so i suppose its not a bad idea, gonna have to get a new hdd or ssd for it tho, sounds like a geiger counter lmao

Hey /tpg/ I'm looking for a small or ultraportable thinkpad for mostly web browsing but also some light gaming. Most intensive game I would run on it is WoW, and I don't need it at maximum settings. What would you recommend?

sup /tpg/

i’m looking for a laptop for college this fall and i’ve been eyeing the dell latitude e7450 or the e7440. i’ve been curious to know what a good price for each model is, and whether these models are good or not. if they aren’t “good,” which model should i go for?

i’m not looking to use linux, just using windows

Is it possible to edit a display EDID to overcome white listed BIOS. I can't just replace the entire EDID because the white listed ones are from a different manufacturer than mine.

Attached: IMG_20190416_121842.jpg (4032x3024, 712K)

Well lads? What's the consensus on the X390?

t. X220 with i5, getting sick of slow CPU in programs like Android Studio.

Attached: X390, May 11.png (1002x821, 133K)

Just got an x220 as a gift BUT it came with W10. Should I install a pirated copy of W7 or some flavor of Linux? I'm not very experienced or good with Linux but it seems like the constant internet usage demanded by W10 is sapping the battery life and making it run hot.

Reminder don’t join Facebook groups for thinkpads. People are actually proud of this shit.

How hard were you guys hit by ZombieLoad? I was about to buy a T430 from a friend when this shit hit the fan. Now I'm back considering a desktop with a Athlon 200GE or a 2200g. (I plan to use just for programming/browsing/media).

Attached: 1557857957356.png (600x848, 190K)

Buying my first Thinkpad. There's an X230 in almost mint conditiion offered for the equivalent of $150 (9 cell battery, backlight). Should I pull the trigger, Jow Forums?

Yeah that's pretty good.

Just do it

I got a T440p for less than that last year, they should be even cheaper now.
Look at Craigslist or eBay.

What ThinkPad can cleanly knockout a grown.

I have a question. I have a T420 that works perfect for having ubuntu, dockstation, document creating, upgrading cpu & ram & SSD, media, and programming enviroment. Why should I consider a libre-bootable thinkpad? What purpose or theme can they serve?

bumpin pls

is ur SSID hidden
what happens if you just set it up manually

From an absolute plebeian who wants a Work laptop for uni
x220 or a x230 with a keyboard mod?
Or even a T420?

x230 w/ keyboard mod but i'll bully you if i see you

>bully you if i see you
W...Why?

>get an x230
>install windows 10 on it
>transfer speeds to usb are weird, spikey, stop altogether for a few seconds every few seconds
>laptop just switches itself off randomly
did I goof guys?

Attached: D5k8-9uWkAAvBJG.jpg large.jpg (528x389, 35K)

my x220 has switched off randomly a couple of times. Still trying to figure that one out. There was something about a bad chip on a couple models, but I think it's the aftermarket battery that it came with. I ordered a legit one, so we'll try that out and see...

I'm thinking of picking this up in a month or so, but i was curious what you guys all think. How is it to use? is it a good improvement over my T440p?

Attached: Capture.png (810x780, 110K)

P1 is very nice if price isn't an issue, the improvement dgpu wise is gigantic, cpu wise it's also a big boost if you actually use multi core applications.

>fell for the meme about a year ago
>first got a x201. love it.
>went on a crazy binge and bought a t430 and gave it to my mom, then bought a t420 & it did not come with a battery
>great shape, but the batteries for the t420 that are genuine are 70 USD+
>not willing to pay that much, and dont really need it anyway

what do?

Attached: 1421139415597.jpg (1920x1440, 184K)

I'm glad to hear this, i'm selling my desktop to a friend for a nice profit, and got a couple scholarships for school supplies, so price isn't really an option.

Plus I fucking love trackpoint

buy a chineseum one with many high ratings, they're usually fine

One common issue with new thinkpads are thermals so undervolt and repaste as soon you get it, it helps a lot

plan to, knowing how the xeon and the quadro love to suck power and get toasty in the small chassis

umm the right speaker on my w520 just stopped working
what do?

Attached: 1547913457616.jpg (400x400, 24K)

ok it started working again randomly
what the heck's going on

The wire for the speakers routes over the heatpipes, and through two little channels that are just deviders made by sharp bits of copper stampings. Over time I've seen these either cut the wires to the left speaker, or melt the insulation letting it short out.

the right speaker's in question here though

I got mine second hand from Taobao and it has a legit 9 cell 44++ battery. It must be some other problem

I just bought a T500 to install Libreboot.

>Well lads? What's the consensus on the X390?
wait 5 years and get it when it doesnt have a 4 digit pricetag

imagine being so poor

>2k for 1080p

>imagine being so poor

>imagine paying $1400 for 1080p nupad

>wait 5 years
youll be able to get one on ebay for half price within like 4 months, I got my yoga 460 like that because some business bought too many and had to get rid of one kek still had 1 years warranty on it too

Am I the only one in the world that likes the T430's keyboard?

nope, despite what purist fags claim thinkpad chiclet is awesome to type on it's only the layout that sucks about it

I want to flash Coreboot on my X220, if I buy all of this hardware will I be able to?:
>>aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Bios-Board-MX25L6405-W25Q64-USB-Programmer-LCD-Burner-CH341A-Progammer-For-24-25-Series/32283031779.html
>>aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-Programmer-Testing-Clip-SOIC-8-SOIC8-DIP8/32394998027.html
>>aliexpress.com/item/Dupont-Jumper-wire-10CM-20CM-30CM-Male-to-Male-Female-to-Male-Female-to-Female-Jumper/32962785036.html

None unless you're a freetard, it's all placebo anyway, the T420 can run Coreboot which in real world usage is every bit as Botnet free as Libreboot

The layout needs a little getting used to, that part is true, But all in all it's types just fine. (must say that I usually type on a $10 keyboard so anything is an upgrade for me)\

I'm looking to buy a backlit keyboard for my T430 btw, it looks amazing imho, they are cheap as fuck and it's a very easy mod to do.

Attached: DLjSfQx[1].jpg (396x292, 23K)

W/T540p look em up.

How come no small retailer or crowd fund gig has tried to make a laptop with a focus on build quality like the older thinkpads? They're very popular and with all the other retro revival stuff going on you think somebody would have tried it by now.

>They're very popular
by Jow Forums standards? yeah, otherwise not really

Want a 1080p IPS in my T430 (now 900P). Is this all I need?

B140HAN01.3 - $56.81
aliexpress.com/item/32883812524.html

LVDS controller board kit - $55.10
aliexpress.com/store/product/2887013_32891792274.html

disgusting

I messed up the link for the controller, this is the correct one: aliexpress.com/item/32891792274.html

I just got a new 6 cell battery for my T450, how do I get TLP to recognise it as the new one?
It still thinks its the 3 cell battery it came with according to tlp-stat

I was jerking off and I accidentally spilled water on my thinkpad. It only got to the bottom left of the laptop but I think some water got through the cracks of the keyboard and the touchpad.
im not sure what to do? I turned off the laptop and cleaned the water now everything seems to work fine but I'm scared it will break later. Should I open up the laptop and try to clean inside? Also the water was mixed with laxative powder I'm not sure if that matters

I'd get the FHD kit off eBay, they have the updated version that prevents screen flickering. Also make sure you have a 90W or above charger.

I just ordered this for my t420 and an i7 3740qm. Already have 16GB and a 500GB ssd in that bad boy, looking forward to finally maxing it out.

any good UK ebay sellers? Looking for a T450 or a T550.

I catch your drift, but I have a $30 store coupon on aliexpress so I want to use that. Don't understand why I need a 90w charger if I'm only going to replace the 900p panel with a 1080P tho..

no, I second this opinion. Even it's not the SS tier keyboard of pre-xx30's, anything post it is a solid S tier
Thinkpads are barely popular. They're machines for working people (whilst this board doesn't fit this one, they're better than...), not your 80IQ iToddlers. Normies look upon them as "those stupid bulky laptops that every school had". I don't mind them missing out on them, though.

someone near me is selling a T410 with an i5-520M for 50 bucks.
Can this model be librerooted and can i install a current version Ubuntu, manjaro or Fedora ?

Never had one before, but i would like a machine to teach myself some linux usage instead of just dicking around in a VM.

anybody is using that modified BIOS version 1.46 for thinkpad x220? is it safe? I heard it bricks your laptop if you change settings
I want to be able to use 1866MHz ram and remove whitelist but I don't know if I should rollback BIOS to version 1.28 or go with the latest modified version

I have a t430s with i7, 500gb hd, 128gb sd,16gb and 5200 discrete. What should I upgrade first?

I ended up buying an x201 on craigslist for $120. I don't know if it will play WoW but its doing everything else I need. I'll look at the t540p if I need an upgrade. Thanks user.
