I don't know but tell me if it's any good. I'm installing mint tonight and am debating between xfce, mate and cinnamon. I've been using cinnamon for a bit now but want to try another.

Lightweight, and fast.

Easily the best DE, highly customizable and light. Even out of the box it’s pretty great, at least for Fedora.

>Even out of the box it’s pretty great

out of the box is pure shit but luckily you can customize it

A state of vermin infested filth and squalor.

the item you're gonna be using the most using this DE with default config

Poorness, communism = Linux

xfce is the epitome of penny wise pound foolish. Saving 150mb of ram is pointless on most machines.

It's a nice mouse. I like mice.

as opposed to what? kde is broken, gnome3 is in constant development. Xfce is the only finished product. Mate is probably fine. I just use gnome and call it a day though, but nautilus had a fucking memory bug in the last version, I don't know if it's fixed in 3.32.2

Why would you want to waste ram for nothing in return? XFCE is perfectly functional without sacrificing performance and the fact that you think 150mb savings for a single application is somehow not relevant shows how retarded you are.

mouse pussy

ugly design

not him but as long as the ram usage is consistent over time it's fine. Like just get more ram faggot lol

cynicism

>kde is broken
What year are you in, just curious

use xfce for desktop
and i3 if u want maximum lightweight

You're also saving all CPU and GPU power you'd lose on (((GNOME))). Xfce Ubuntu is just fast as fuck compared to Ubuntu GNOME, especially on integrated graphics.

I just tried it in fedora 29 it was shit
cringe, any desktop environment uses the same power

>any desktop environment uses the same power
Why does GNOME run at 3fps when opening the app menu then?

>GTK2
>best DE

>any desktop environment uses the same power
stop posting

dwm and gnome gives me the same exact battery life. do a test before talking stupid memes. modern hardware doesn't give a fuck about your desktop of choice

>Saving 150mb of ram
But it is just comfy and not bloated(in terms of visual trash), I am using it on 32Gb host.

works on my machine tm

If you want comfy and not bloated you wouldn't even be using a DE to begin with.

Pure terminal usage isn't comfy despite the poser memes.

>No DE means pure terminal usage

It's slowly been intergrating gtk3 over the years. The next beta, on 5/19, will have everything in gtk3.

I am OK with XFCE, it is good looking and has pretty pack of useful tools.

stock XFCE is comfy

Attached: stock.png (1920x1080, 2.52M)

very good interface yes yes

XFCE and KDE are the only good DEs.

Xfce and Cinnamon*

Plasma is better than all this gtk shit you fucking losers

It tells you straight away that Xfce is useless without mouse.

>qt mouse logo
How can other DEs even compete?

Attached: 1520019772239.gif (231x300, 344K)

It's not the fastest, smallest or sexiest DE, but it's the best by far and only takes 5 minutes to set everything up to your liking.

Light and nimble.

From the FAQ wiki.xfce.org/faq
>What does the logo mean?
>A mouse, obviously, for all kinds of reasons like world domination and monsters and such.

it's oruchuban ebichu

mousu is for mousu

The people that use it.

Real men use ratpoison which eternally btfos xfce rats.

A DE for snitches and spooks.

Visual lag and battery life are two completely different issues.

This

Cinnamon is just a heavier and less configurable Xfce. The only thing it does better is theming and the default apps picker.

Which DE has the least shitty compositor? Stock XFCE's is garbage and Compton still has issues.

Xfce compositor had the tearing issues fixed. It's pretty good with vsync on.

>Stock XFCE's
Are you referring to screen tearing? It was fixed in 4.13 afaik and Mint Xfce fixes it by default.

Good, just about time when GTK 4 is ready to be released

Scottish rite Freemasonry.

you replied to me exactly quoting me saying power usage fucking retard. Battery life is exactly inversely proportional to power usage goddamit archtard

I use xubuntu in an old core2duo iMac.
Really brought new life into it, someone was just going to trash it.

It's written in single threaded Javascript.

Install guix, can use it by default

>do you want linux that looks fancy and painted and all modern
>or do you want a lightweight feature-heavy resource-light GUI that can be easily configured to autohide both top/bottom and can run most linux on 500 megs or less

>Because you spent money on ram, so why kneecap yourself to be "pretty"

>because you want your old shitty laptop to do real fucking work instead of playing vidyagaems

xfce is the white man's de

>xfce is the white man's de
It really is, brother. It really is.

Attached: 1493206559164.png (408x368, 96K)

It's a chink word play, xu in chinese means mouse/rat.

Just werks on my machine

It represents supremacy.

Attached: xue dabbing.gif (737x720, 728K)

GTK3 is an abomination that never should have been permitted to happen

the reason why we all argue about the best DE is because they are all good :) if they weren't there would be a clear winner. that winner would be KDE

Baked-in RAT

ba/sed

is the gtk version even relevant? it's not just window decorations?

Definitely mate or xfce. Both are light, simple and customizable. I've always had a hard time getting rid of tearing in xfce though. Mate offers a bunch of different compositing options, so you're bound to find one that works for you.

you deserve your shitty computing experience :^)

i don't use mouse

Go with xfce. Mint is also one of the few distros where xfce screen tearing is non existent by default.

Nigga, the logo is a mouse because its interface is oriented and optimized to mouse use
I swear to God, you fucking neckbeards overthink everything

underrated post
XFCE master race

Does xfce still have that issue of the resizing area being the same size as the window border? With thin or no borders resizing a window becomes fucking impossible.

Y E S

rat feces.

I switched from mate to xfce and it's pretty good. It occasionally breaks but i still like it more than mate.

This bully is going too far.

>What is the symbolism of this icon represent?

Mouses are small, lightweight and fast.

Much like Xfce

They're also pretty ugly and disease-ridden

I hate the bottom panel though, looks like a cheap mac dock. Always get rid of it.

best mascot, mouse is fine qt too

Mouse is gtk

Mouse on a X, umm...hmm...x marks the mouse? MouseX?

You need to be as dumb as a mouse to use it instead of i3.

good stuff
