I think ADSL could run at like 200mbit/100mbit or more and 20ms latencies no problem.

It just can't into 10/10gbit

guess again, nigger

Maybe VDSL2 with multi-operator vectoring

Symmetric 100 Mbps fibre to the premises. Feels nordic man.

Maybe it's a successor technology. Either way it's at least feasible on the same phone lines.

try speedof.me/

That's the minimum available speed for my fiber third world ISP.

What's the best city in Italy?

I hope you are enjoying affordable gigabit, sir.

>muh Jow Forums

Symmetric gigabit is 20 euroshekels here

I hope you will die in agony.

I wish I had good internet.

You lucky bastards.

The only other ISP in my area has 1gbps with 35mbps upload, it's insulting in comparison, especially since it costs $10 more.

kek, what's the point of even offering something like that?

Moving apartments soon to St. Louis, picking ISP packages. Both me and my girlfriend PC game alot, and if one of us isn't gaming the other is probably streaming something. I'm trying to pick a speed that allows high speed gaming alongside HD streaming or other high speed gaming.

Should we get the 400Mbps package or the 940Mbps package? It's like 40 bucks more a month, is it necessary or is 400 good you guys think?

They have a better TV set top box and TV picture quality.

But yeah, their internet offering is just shit.

I download all my TV and shit at this point anyway, so I don't really care about that kind of stuff as long as my internet is good.

With just two people 400mbps is more than enough.

1gbps is really only needed when you've got 4-5+ HEAVY internet users, or maybe 10-12 normal internet users.

I had 150mbps when I was living alone, now that i'm in a household with 5 heavy internet users, I have 1gbps. We tried just 150mbps for awhile and it was simply not enough for our uses.

Oh, right, I forgot people still watch TV broadcasts. I unplugged my TV 10 years ago and went with exclusively digital media, and haven't looked back. Normies are just starting to catch up now.

Unlimited LTE+ is pretty comfy, at $7 a month, too.

As much as that would be nice, I can't help but notice i'm around wifi so often that it really doesn't mean much to me as it would've 5-10 years ago.

Eh, I don't have to be a public Wi-Fi whore, no need to give out my phone no left and right. If I need to download a large .iso or a torrent on the go, can do it ez. Also good to have during ISP/electricity outages (not first world country).

solid ping though

DOCSIS is bullshit, that's why

You don't have gigabit?

I do, but that's wifi with a 2x2 phone using 802.11ac 80mhz DFS channels.

Also using a ubiquiti AC-AP Lite, so not a very expensive access point.

With ethernet i get full speeds.

Verizon gross

Verizon is jewing me out of a cheaper plan, I need to cancel my contract to save $16 a month but at least I'll get a $200 gift card to offset the $90 cancelation charge.

werks for me, i've had them since 2007.

I have managed to have 1gbps since it's introduction in april 2017 for under $79.99/month with custom TV and phone.

During black friday last year they had a deal where if your contract was up within the next year you could renew for another 2 years at the same price.

So i'm on my 2nd full year and still paying the original $79.99 price, and am locked in to this price for the next 18 months, and even after that, it only goes up $5/month to $84.99/month.

It's a pain in the ass a bit having to fuck around with the special promotions and shit, but meh, the service is good, the speeds are quick, no data cap, etc.

Yea at least this one apparently has no contract and the router rental is free for 3 years or something like that. It's just silly I have to leave to get a better deal.

I bought the FiOS router outright, but I don't use it.

I just have it for activation of service, and if I ever need to call them and troubleshoot.

Otherwise I use my own router.

What do you use as the modem? I thought you had to use their router especially if you have TV service.

FiOS has no modem, it has an ONT which when using their gigabit service, is required to use ethernet WAN. So pretty much any router works.

However, as you noted, if you want the TV to work properly you need to use a MoCA converter to introduce a MoCA LAN signal for the set top boxes to get their internet connectivity. The FiOS router does this by default, but if you use a different router you need to buy a standalone MoCA converter.

Also you need to set up some port forwarding in your router to allow the TV stuff to work properly.

But if you're into networking and have a nice high end Cisco box from work, or you built your own pfSense box, then you can hook those up and get some very nice VPN throughput that is totally offloading the encryption from your client devices, VLAN tagging, advanced filters, or even deep packet inspection.

If you're not into networking, it's good that their provided router is still decently performing enough to get full gigabit LAN/WAN and WAN/LAN speeds, and it auto configures for the TV stuff which is nice if you use their TV service (I dont).

Very interesting, thank you very much for the information
