isn't unbound simply a caching resolver? It still forward requests to a proper recursive name server right.

I use DNS Benchmark to find the fastest one.

DNSCrypt on PC and AdGuard on phone

its recursive, validating and caching. sure you can run it on forwarding mode, but at that point, you dont need unbound, dnsmasq should be fine.
its setup on openwrt and pfsense as a recursive server by default.
