I had a similar setup with Win 7, eventually I spent about $20 for a cheap Xeon and a 771 mod sticker so wit a fan on my north bridge I overclocked the Xeon to Sandy Bridge performance.

Then I picked up a cheap GTX 970 and I was able play most games on high settings at 1440p.
