So what the fuck are you supposed to do with a disk that can only hold 1.44MB? How do you even use this?

That's a save icon, you just click on it.

I keep my QBASIC programs on it. Holds every single program I ever wrote.

You put your Diablo II save files on it

Copy your SNES games, or download roms from the internet and play them on the original hardware.

It seemed like a lot at the time. Especially compared to a 360k floppy.

get 28 of them and install windows 98

That was a shit load of programs and documents at the time when I was still using a CRT monitor.

>How do you even use this?
You go back in time to 2006 when they were last relevant. Why the fuck does this thread even exist?

>28
>for windows 98

Win3.1 came on 11 floppies already.

Mostly just Word, Excel, and PowerPoint docs.
I mostly used Zip disks when I could. 100MB storage was amazing. Hated the fact that they weren't more widespread, and shortly before flash memory really started to become popular, I carried around a USB Zip drive (this was like 2002 or so).

i could be thinking windows 95

>2006
>not using Zip Disks
LMAOing at your life

OSR2 95 comes on like 26 disks, so probably.
98 is a whopping 39 disks.

I used them for storing home made pixel art porn I did in ms paint.

jesus
yeah it was win95 then, i installed it on a 256 grayscale thinkpad back in like 1999 or so. it was definitely somewhere in the range of 25-33 disks, not 39. i think a few disks were for optional features.
the laptop originally had os/2 on it, but it was one of the older versions; win95 was an upgrade, not a sidegrade.

by 2006, USB was entirely ubiquitous and 2GB flash drives were like $60
you could get 512MB drives for like $20
using Zip in 2006 was kinda retarded

if you weren't such a whore who used his computer for something besides just consumer media from other people, you'd find that 1.38MiB can store a number of different kinds of documents, office documents, pictures, text files, programs/tools, etc

Used them in high school in computer science class to save work on.

This

A whole forth operating system and shell is only 3 kilobytes yo

>being so used to modern computing bloat that 1.44MB seems unusable
Kids.

chris.silmor.de/hal91/

minimalistic rescue disk

Undeniably and unbelievably based

what you used someithing else to install your os from?

Attached: 94GFNGX.jpg (1024x768, 94K)

The original Mac OS took up 64K of ROM and less than 400K on a floppy disk. In fact the floppy had room for a few applications.

Think about that the next time your browser takes up 1GB to render a 150MB web page so Pajeet's 1,001 JavaScript includes can animate a fucking ad you don't even want to see.

>So what the fuck are you supposed to do with a disk that can only hold 1.44MB?
Now? Fuck all, it's obsolete media. 20 years ago? A fuck tonne.

> How do you even use this?
You insert it into a floppy drive you retarded cunt. Does optical media baffle you just as much?

even 20 years ago a 1.44MB floppy was small

Attached: serveimage-1.gif (260x320, 1.97M)

It worked out "back then".

The amount of porn I transferred home from the Internet Café in the early 00s using those is mindboggling.

>1,509,949 characters
I could probably put everything I've ever written with notepad on one. How many novels are you writing that you run out of floppies to put them on?

back in my days, you could fit entire operating systems on a handful of these

Attached: ynI6Fjpx[1].jpg (1280x720, 274K)

*sip* now that was a real storage device

>editing bit-by-bit with a magnetic needle

The joys zoomers will never be able to experience.
I feel sorry for them.

I had disks with multiple dos games on them, at the time they could fit. One was a game show disk that had Concentration, Jeopardy, Family Feud , Wheel of Fortune and Monopoly. All of them fit on the disk.

Slackware was 22 floppies or something like that.

You can save 1760KB on them when Amiga formatted.

Are you one of my friends possibly?

Now I feel like going through all the floppy disks and CD-RWs back at my parents' house.

My old dos machine did not have a HDD at first. I spent years running shit off floppy disks.

Heh, I still have 3.1 disks. Though mine aren't grey. Thought they just came in black.

Nowadays, just piracy for old systems like the MSX and Amiga (this second one requiring a special drive)

>How do you even use this?
the same way you use any other block device

It's so nostalgic. Text files were so small back in the day.
144MB was plenty.

>not using Zip Disks
lol no one used Zip disks

i still have a complete set of mac os system 7 disks in storage.

Text files are still small.
Simply hardly anyone ever uses them, since the world has grown accustomed to WYSIWYG editors.

This. Saw the ads all the time, but literally no one had one.
People generally went directly from 1.44MB to 650MB in the late 90s.

I did a bit but yeah it kind of was a meme.

>How do you even use this?
Go get more floppies if 1.44MB is not enough.

You arj your DOS games.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARJ

You ask your friend if he can sneak on to his older brother's computer and fill it with boob.jpg and naked.gif

>one day some kid is going to ask the same thing about 1TB USB flash drives

Attached: 1551400339701.jpg (1368x2048, 280K)

When your system ram is only about 11 times more than that, it seems like a reasonable size.

Bullshit. After they finally made internal ide versions people used the shit out of them. Myself included.

I have a folder with 70 txt files of bash tricks and tips. They vary from bytes to Kb. The whole folder is 396K.

It's just zoomers pretending to be angry boomers. Any boomer that isn't an utter retard would s&h this thread
