Unironically yes. I only pirate drm free content. If you unironically think you are safe running some cracked exe from ivan then you are fucking retarded.

He's cute

>not trusting ivan

Ivan is a good guy, stop badmouthing him. He works hard to provide free access to American media, any American product you pirate means less tax dollars towards all the killing of innocents. Ivan is a philanthropist

scene releases from reputable sources != random russian crack or "repack" from some random guy on the pirate bay or some public p2p network with no moderation

drm free is the preferred option, but scene releases are safe the vast majority of times and get nuked quickly if they aren't. sandoxes exist. firewalls exist. packet sniffers exist.

Based FOSS chad.

yeah thats like saying "pure cocaine isnt bad, its the shit that they cut it with that makes it bad" as if you know where to get pure cocaine. good luck finding it in the states.

you clearly don't understand what a scene release is

nah i trust fitgirl

fitgirl is not part of the scene. fitgirl does """repacks""" of scene releases. you're only confirming my previous assumption that you do not understand what a scene release is.

no I don't pirate, I do not like when people murder and rob other people at the high seas

i'm not sure what you're talking about, that was my first post in this thread. i just have never had any problem with running her repacks, nor codex's cracks

my bad, i got the reply chain mixed up, i thought you were replying to this post sorry, time for bed.

My boss unironically sent us a whatsapp message telling us to "clean our laptops and phones because we are getting viruses on our network".

>"It's not me because I use Norton, so check your stuff."

>boomer boss goes around telling people they mustn't do this or that on their computer because they'll get a virus otherwise
>he ends up being the one clicking on a fake application email, infecting the server and bringing down the network for a day while actual professionals had to isolate it and restore a backup

The ol boomer boss.

why do corporations still use W*ndows ?

To avoid Microsoft patent trolling.

eastern europeans have better internet than most of us you utter brainlet

Tbf, I've been feeling really hesitant to download anything even if it is a scene release. The whole malware/cryptominer bullshit thing has really set me on edge.
How can you honestly, really tell you're not getting anything harmful on your computer?
Yeah, you can tell me to just stick with Skidrow or fitgirl or whatever, but how fucking hard is it for some rando to just name their poisoned .exe as the same thing undetected?

You can't check it on skidrow's website or fitgirl's website, because they advertise not having a website in their .txt files.

Do I have to look at MD5 hashes and run them against a reputable... person to see that their hashes match the ones that I'm about to download?

Honestly, it's all so fucked. I used to be able to download shit and not care at all, but the advance in technology with adblocker blockers and hidden processes that actually attack via your fucking intel CPU, it's like the wild west of computer programs has become a lot more dangerous.

If I have Malwarebytes and MSE (which used to be good 5 years ago, not sure what the new meme go-to virus scanner is anymore), say if I did download something off of piratebay, and I'm not talking the obvious brittney_spears_toxic.mp3.exe bullshit, but I mean one that actually looks like it has lots of downloads already, and checking the comments to see what they have to say about it. Should I already be relatively safe at that point, or would I already be just fine with MB and MSE active?

It's kinda hard to be sure since, what was it, that one Minecraft version that apparently a lot of people pirated (or was it playing on some sort of private server?) were infected with a backdoor cryptominer or someshit.

Like seriously, how can you feel fucking safe anymore except just downloading/buying shit off of Steam. Tits.

Back to Jow Forums with you.

I get 99% of my torrents from rutracker.
At this point I trust those russian guys many times more than any english torrent site

isps dont care but you can still be caught in other ways

Imagine torrenting a GNU/Linux .iso when it's perfectly legal to download it for free.

Attached: low cranial capacity brainlet meme.png (211x239, 5K)

I only pirate Japanese games. Japs don't put viruses in their torrents.

Attached: licku.png (816x638, 718K)

I torrent linux iso. Http downloads are kinda slow for me. So i rather torrent the iso. I get avg 8 or 9 mb download speed for Debian iso. Both 32 and 64 bit. I live in rural area and i dont get good speeds.

Really? No one else feels this way at all?

Are you an meth?

No, just nearing boomer-tier where all the ransomware, hidden cryptominers, and super backdoor virus shit is commonplace in our society.

Are things really the same as they ever were? Is it super easy to tell if I've downloaded something bad before installing it? Like, would it be easily caught by MB and/or MSE right away? Or are the bad shit of today way more stealthy in 2019?

No I am

Your friend don't need $1200 per program just because colleges are willing to pay that much for them.

imagine not owning and liking guns

That's why you should starting using/playing open source software/games.

want to play minecraft but don't want to pay for it? then play Minetest. Oh it does not have x feature that minecraft has? well time to get your hands dirty and contribute to the community.

don't wanna pay office and photoshop? same thing use krita/gimp and libre office, contribute to the code, report bugs, etc.

he's not wrong

>scene releases from reputable sources
You can't verify that it's actually scene unless you're in the scene. Ivan could just label his malware as "scene" and people not in the scene would be none the wiser.

>You can't verify
maybe you can't. i can. you really should know better as a Jow Forums user.
first of all a reputable source is not the pirate bay, a reputable source is a source run by people with scene contacts and access to the topsites. bad releases get nuked sooner rather than later.

but, if you REALLY want to be sure, there are checksums for scene releases which can be checked easily even by people without connections to the scene.
a proper scene release always comes with an .svf file that contains said checksums. pic related, it's a random scene release i had lying around. as you can see the checksums match, therefor it's ab actual scene release and not some malware infested repack or p2p non-scene release.
here, have a read
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_(warez)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuke_(warez)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topsite_(warez)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warez_scene#Release_procedure

you can not hide shit in a release, since you can't fake the checksums. if a software release comes without an .sfv file or if the checksums don't match, you simply don't run any of the executables and look for a proper release. it's not that difficult.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checksum

even running precompiled 'open source' software from github bears a higher risk than running any proper scene release. let that sink in for a moment.

>a proper scene release always comes with an .svf
meant to write *software scene release, it's not really that important for non-software releases

Just wipe every 3 months, If I have a miner it's doing a really good job of tricking me into thinking that I'm at 3% gpu usage most of the time.
A keylogger would be a lot more of a problem though, even though I use 2FA on most things I still don't want people to see what I'm typing.
Today malware can run entirely in memory and despite being blue team SOC in cyber sec, I have no idea how I'd ever find out about it.

If you're scared on the computer that you do personal stuff lock everything down, access control, least privilege, firewall carefully configured, be an update nazi, use no programs and you still won't be safe.

if you can show me 33 split rar archives with the same crc and exact file size as the ones in my screenshot that can be extracted to create a working .iso file with the same crc and exact file size as the one in my screenshot i'll buy you a beer.
i highly doubt you can change the crc to a specific value while keeping the exact file size without corrupting any of the archives or their content, but feel free to educate me. i would be very interested in working proof

>don't have internet and get shot by somali

In Eastern Europe Somalis get the shit beat out of them (the few that are even there). To get shot or stabbed by Somalis you need to go to Western Europe.

Active directory works great since 2003, Ms office, win server admins are half the price of Linux admins and you can easily replace them

Nigger what

Sandbox everything

I used to have a shitton of viri on my win xp back in 2008~2013 all the time, without piracy... and that's the last time I got any virus
with all my piracy throughout the years, visiting porn sites, playing sketchy flash and .exe games without AV program
never lost any money from cards or anything
maybe I have crypto mining software running in secrecy on each and every one of my devices but I'm honestly not that worried even if I do have
the only sketchy thing I noticed is windows 10 dl-ing retarded games and editing software on it's own but I guess theres no helping it

>reputable sources
>random binaries from people that have no real monetary incentive to provide you something for free

No, you are correct. People who trust random binaries because its "da scene" are retarded.

Go drink some bleach, shit for brains.

I never used to worry at all, and I never got a virus, but I got paranoid recently, so I googled what the best free antivirus was, and Avast was what most sites suggested (no I'm not a shill, I recommend you go and research for yourself what antivirus you want to use).

So now when I download a file I just run it through Avast, takes like two seconds. Haven't found anything dodgy yet and haven't had any problems.

why watch GOT when you can watch

youtube.com/watch?v=Y-rmzh0PI3c

How can you feel safe buying things from steam? That shitty service doesn't even check if the game has an .exe file, how hard would it be for someone to just sneak in ransomware?

Most viruses aren't even targeted, they're attached to ads on dodgy websites. Windows Defender and uBlock Origin is more than enough nowadays.

Money is just an abstraction of value which is abstraction of collective desire, and like all thing economic, is not real.
Economics and all of its trappings are a (very broken) sociology based construct to simplify information processing on a species-wide scale.
things exist outside of the economic abstraction
