This is why I hate free shit and only buy premium shit for my consumption.
>This is why no one uses freetard shit.
Except just about everyone is using freetard shit all day long.
That doesn't mean they're all managing or understanding it, just using it.

LEAVE WILBER ALONE!11!
You already made this thread once you fucking nigger. Stop baiting mindless anons and kids
Not even the worst offenders.
this. your taste is absolute shit OP
He's right though. The FOSS community is heavily impaired by know-it-all devs who think they can do everything themselves.
Turns out visual appeal matters a great deal to most people, and a shitty amateur design can drag down the popularity of an otherwise great product.
> impaired
They aren't selling anything.
> urns out visual appeal matters a great deal to most people
It is, and KDE does a great job. Logos don't matter since there are none in actual distros.
left: baby's toy
right: actual tools to get shit done
Everyone is selling something, user.
>baby's toy
This is CERN
The left is overall flatter than the right you stupid baiting boomer. Put on some lip gloss, reflection shadow boy.
>actual tools to get shit done
This is an autistic manchild on his way to fuck a thai ladyboy writing another blog post about how Spotify tracking your music taste is a threat to mankind
I said the opposite.
All the icons look like shit on both sides though.
> mactoddler confuses left with right and rushes in to defend his iToys online
> Oil on canvas, 2019
Well shit now I look like a retard
put that macbook back in the bag
>Gno...eMpv
>Cal...ator
So this is the power of FOSS...
I don't even own a mac product, I just wanted to argue
>Turns out visual appeal matters a great deal to most people
Provide evidence that Linux is less used than macOS (it isn't, not by a long shot) and that it's because of the icons (it isn't, not by a long shot).
Because they actually like unique art?
Take a look at the OS's used by Top 500 computers, let me know how many of them are macshit.
It's literally >95% Linux. When you're doing serious work, you use a proper OS. When you're posting on Twitter about Higgs Boson, you use macshit.
B-but if I post on Jow Forums about lolis using Linux, is it considered a serious work?
>left
>"we made this awesome software; now we need a logo"
>right
>"we made a shiny brand"
>"we'll worry about making it work later"
False equivalence, not an argument.
unironically true
You're fucking monkey
Macfags need to be executed on the spot.
do the top super computers actually use Linux and not some BSD system?
The huge majority is Linux, but obviously the 2nd most popular is BSD.
en.m.wikipedia.org
i think pretty much anyone who might be in the market for gcc doesnt particularly care what the logo looks like
You're unironically correct. Pretty logos and branding are more important than functionality to most people.
Compare classic brand names like
>Windows
>Apple
>Mac
>IBM
to shit like
>Guix (pronounced Geeks)
>Fedora
>GAHNOO slash LEENUCKS
>Ubuntu
There's no sleek professionalism in any of these, and so no adult who takes themselves seriously will associate with them
> implying I was arguing
Get a grip.
I make $260k/annual using gimp for graphic logo design for a certain corporation. you fags are just busy being worried about 'muh program' its hilarious
This sounds like cope from someone who pays extra for a brand so that he might fit in with his peers. Make sure to describe it as "professional" and "serious".
>Pretty logos and branding are more important than functionality to most people.
Man, I'm gonna love the proof you've got of this statement you totally did not just make up.
>There's no sleek professionalism in any of these
Opinion (and a pretty dumb one). I think Fedora looks a lot more professional than Windows. For fuck's sake, Candy Crush?
based
what's this from again?
Stock Gnome icons I think.
I want Apple to go back to skeumorphism so every other company will follow the trend. I really hate flat design. And those colors make me sick.
any way to use them with KDE?
I really do think the GIMP icon needs to go
No one will use their God damn product if it's not visually appealing or easy to use.
>skeumorphism
TIL...
I miss that. I remember having an iPhone 4S and having the feel of owning a premium product. Now I wouldn't want it even as a gift. Android allows me to access to the almost entirety of the mobile phone market, freely customize my phone and install emulators in it. The iPhone was a phone that worked in an era when phones where laggy an ugly. Now it's just a generic looking phone on the outside and an average phone on the inside. I don't blame Apple, they don't need to release good phones since they are going to sell millions anyway. I want them to fail miserably so they feel obligated to release a decent product for once.
Those are physicists, they can't code.
How can I contribute to open source projects as a designer? Autistic developers should stick to programming.
Good goy
They're trying to squash the stereotype of free software being highly technical and buggy to use. Or something.
Where can I learn the principles of good branding? I'm working on an app in my spare time and am struggling to come up with a good name and logo.
Nice trips.
I recommend the book Designing Brand Identity by Alina Wheeler
People are taking the piss out of you every day. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you. You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don't owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don't even start asking for theirs.
Sure, google stock gnome icons and install them. Or better yet, use your package manager to search *icon* and pick.
This.
