How long do you usually have to wait until a new CPU line reaches a sane price point?

>sold for good prices at day 0
Yeah sure

This
t. AMD user

>being this poor

OP didn't say good, they said how long do you usually wait before it reaches a sane price point. This is subjective, I buy what I want when I want it because I worked to afford it.

You don't get/stay rich when you keep mindlessly throwing money out of the window

>I can't afford a top of the line CPU every 3-5 years
Lmao.

>he's hoodrich
lmao

>internalised classcuckism
The absolute state of the American male.

>top of the line CPU every 3-5 years

Can't imagine a bigger waste of money. CPU lifetimes are constantly getting longer and longer. Wouldn't be surprised if a top of the line Zen 2 will last for over 15 years without any major incentive to upgrade.

>Zen 2 will last for over 15 years
Imagine being this deluded.

nigger a 960 is 10 years old and is still perfectly fine for basically everything.

considering the rate of improvement in CPU tech is slowly down with every gen I see no reason why zen 2 can't last for 15+ years

intel doesn't lower prices
not sure how new you are to this

>b-b-b-but you need a new CPU every year

Attached: aUgjWxM.jpg (1668x893, 264K)

>there's only one brand to pick

The only reason I updated from my 2011 CPU was because it died. Spec wise I "upgraded" to a 2018 CPU where the only difference was 2 additional physical cores. The clock speed on the older CPU was stable at a higher frequency too.

How long do I have to wait to be sandwiched between two pairs of perky tits?

Even GTA V which is notoriously CPU heavy runs insanely good

If you buy a top of the line 12 core Zen this year it will last you a decade+ easily

Attached: LfLcEm6.jpg (1630x896, 134K)

goddamn, you're dumb

I can attest to this The CPU I'm coming from is an i7-930 that was heavily abused. Years of daily 100% stress calculating research data and encoding video in a room that regularly reached triple digit temperatures.

I now have an 8086k. It's fine, but it's not exactly a big step up when you consider I was running the 930 at 4.7ghz stable. Which is about as high as my 8086k will go on stock.
These chips are 8 years apart and I'd still be comfortable with my old one.

ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/compare.html?productIds=41447,148263

5-10 years. That's usually when I buy into them.

how does one even kill a cpu

t. "Working is my hobby"

A C2Q 6600 is still a capable processor for most things. Honestly you could go as far back as a Presler Pentium D if you can deal with the heat and still be able to do 70-80% of most things reasonably well if it's coupled with 8GB of RAM.

Multiple years of constant temperature abuse. It was less the machine itself and more the room it was in.
Also I'm not actually sure if it was the CPU or the motherboard but if I'm replacing either I'd rather replacing both (so I do).

More or less. I was doing it for free anyway until the project owners asked me to join for salary.

CPUs generally have fixed prices from launch to retirement
Old CPUs do not get discounted. They get discontinued.

AMD sometimes does minor price cuts, but like $20

>A C2Q 6600 is still a capable processor for most things.
It used to be a couple months ago.
Now with all the security patches smashing close to 50% of its performance it's literal potato tier now.

I seriously don't know how the entire world is allowing this. I hope people are suddenly pouring billions into RISCV.

well. it says it right there on the box.
you are a complete idiot.
you went out and bought an anniversary overpriced shit of 8700k, you have to stress that fucking motherboard even more than your 930 did.
on top of that you bought a meme, not even a collectible cpu, like the 5775c is.... and you have your performance reduced every day with every security patch they push to fix intel's incompetence.
otoh, amd didn't do any revolutionary design, on the performance field. they fixed their pipeline but they hit a wall with their design choices, BUT they fit perfectly an 8c16t under 115 watts, while your 6c12t @4.0GHz sits at 95watts and then goes to the sky.
every iteration doesn't increase performance, it fixes other things too, thermals and consumption are on the list.
You jumped almost 10 years of intel cpu iterations and you got yourself a more power hungry, hotter cpu, with comparable single core performance and a +2c4t which is the greatest advancement intel offered in 2017 after years and years of stagnation.
why wouldn't intel keep the same pace, if idiots still buy their shit?

>I hope people are suddenly pouring billions into RISCV.
riscv isn't going to replace amd64 cpus, ever.
the money put into riscv are for cpus that replace arm cortex or mips embedded processors.

>wild assumptions
I don't know where you got the idea that it was somehow more expensive than the alternatives at the time of the anniversary.
>buying a CPU for the collectors value
I'm not about that life. I picked it because it had the specs I needed at the lowest price. It's a tool not a toy.

bull fucking shit. those chips aren't running in server farms so there's no risk there emanating and when you're too poor for a few hundred dollars for a better cpu you're not the target of those attacks anyways, so no risk emanating from there either.

stop being such a worried cuck and enjoy

I just double checked, looks like the 8700k didn't qualify since the clock speed would have been a downgrade from my 930. The 8700K does 4.7 turbo, my 930 did 4.7 on all cores. If the 8086k with a higher base can match that, but just barely, I have doubts the 8700K would be a contender without adjusting voltages.

GTA V runs like shit on my i5 661.

>dual core

no shit

>You jumped almost 10 years of intel cpu iterations and you got yourself a more power hungry, hotter cpu, with comparable single core performance and a +2c4t which is the greatest advancement intel offered in 2017 after years and years of stagnation.
I forgot to mention, the addition of AVX alone puts this statement into question for my workloads. Even for single thread the 8086K would blow the i7 out of the water for most of my processing tasks. It's only in the general case that it's the same at worst.
Not to mention the addition of a GPU and VT-D. I'm willing to take the thermal cost of all of this. I obviously didn't care last time and these CPUs have proven their resilience to me multiple times now.

with AMD - 0
with incel - until they are obsolete

obvious shill is obvious

I'm hardly endorsing Intel or anyone else. I don't think anyone is happy with the state of x86 CPUs today. But that doesn't change the requirements, I still need one. You're in a CPU thread, of course I'm going to be sharing my anecdotes on them.

You need to just too being poor honestly. Unless you're upgrading your entire system every year, dropping $3k for a new PC once every 6-7 years is nothing.

t. Guy who buys new stuff on launch day all the time.

Well if somebody talks about AVX they're most likely a shill, because when you leave x86, you don't leave for AVX, you leave for arm, duh... Spoopy, innit?

Anyways, look at the Vendor ID of my USB soundcard lol:
>pic related

>You leave for ARM
Wrong. Real men leave for Power9 with it's 22c88t

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-05-24 at 20.57.46.png (400x175, 12K)

I'm not sure what you're saying. I didn't "leave" x86, I went from x86 -> x86, the second chip supported AVX where the first did not. ARM is a whole new architecture and seems like a weird alternative for processing that kind of data when POWER exists. You'd only go to ARM or MIPS in this case if you where concerned about energy use. I'm prioritizing real time with reasonable home workstations.

I am going to consider it though if someone releases something practical.

Attached: IBM POWER 740.jpg (957x1600, 351K)

I'm not sure why you started mentioning AVX? What are you writing in AVX assembler that's so noteworthy? Because for us home users nothing actually uses AVX (and never will), that's what gave it away that you're an Intel shill.

It's also quite weird to bring up POWER when there are most likely more than, let's make something up, 3 arm CPUs under your roof already, right this moment. How many POWER CPUs are present in your whole neighbourhood, your whole hometown? POWER is a meme, not an alternative.

Shill.

Attached: mfw i find bug.jpg (500x488, 48K)

Why are you so fucking stupid, user?

The shill is immunized against all dangers: one may call him a scoundrel, parasite, swindler, profiteer, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a shill and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: "I've been found out." One cannot defend himself against the shill.

You realize I don't have to write everything I run on my machine, right? Regardless of who wrote it, the CPU is still going to be processing AVX instructions. I brought it up because someone was trying to pretend like single core vs single core was going to be the same. It's not in my use case. Read the reply chain I guess if you're confused.

I have 2 POWER and 1 PPC machine in my house right now. Everyone that owns a PS3 and a good router can probably say the same. I have 1 arm device and it's my phone which sits in the desk unless I'm traveling.

>Everyone that owns a PS3
More like every console in existence except this generation.

Alright then, you're not a shill.

My PS3 SS is broken, user. ;_;

>you're not a shill.
Prove it faggot.

Get an i5 ivy bridge for $60. Best bang for your buck when it comes to Intel garbage.

5 years

Only the GC, Wii, Wii U, 360, PS3, and some PS2s for the IOP. Others are MIPS, x86, or ARM

I feel like that's a considerable amount for recent history of game consoles.

Attached: mips the rabbit.png (161x188, 22K)

How long will I have to wait for a CPU that provides an upgrade in single core performance. It's been 5 years and fucking nothing has happened
>muh more cores

a slim is like a £30 item at this point. just get one of those. The super slim is built like shit and doesn't support CFW anyway

Fair

well intel doesnt do discounts, and amd is cheap from day 1, so I say 0.

>amd is cheap from day 1
Hasn't Ryzen 2xxx gone down like 50% since release?

>implying they were expensive to begin with

>willingly giving your money to the jew

Keep buying Core i9

>considering an intel purchase in current year

I will

This looks like a fat guy sitting cross-legged with a cat in his crotch. It took me a little too long to see the tits. Feels like my brain got "mitigated" by Intel.

WHY

I literally cant see anything but boobs in that pic, I think you spend a bit to much time on this website.

Look at the thumbnail with it in mind.

Attached: CALL PLEASE.jpg (1280x720, 93K)

I can't even see what you're pointing out.
Could it be that you're so used to that material that the actual faggot here is you?

you're going to need to draw the rest of the fat guy in MSPaint if you want me to see it, because all you're doing is giving me a headache

You're not the only one.

just how fucking gone to you have to be to have this coming to your mind when you see that image

lmao

It's the flannel, I guarantee it.

I akshully thought it was a woman's butt sitting on a cat from the thumb.

It's always a sane price if you're not poor.

I have never wanted to be a cat until now
