Network infrastructure costs a little bit of money to run
Phones require labor, resources, and money to be produced. The internet already exists though, so I agree that should be free.
Give me one GOOD reason why you shouldn't be gassed.
Bah, the government can pay for it. The internet is an extremely important service, way more important than sidewalks and parks. They should pay for it.
So does water filtration but in many first world cup tries you don't have to pay for it.
It would do harm to the economy and lower everyone's average standard of living
you have to go back, commie scum
Because phones Cost money to both manufacturer and design and the infrastructure the internet uses costs money to maintain plus the companies who make them need to make money off of them or why go to all that trouble?
It would stop innovation
you would get a standard government phone, no competitors
>what are taxes
Think about it. Do you really want the government controlling the internet?
Found the dumbfuck libertarians.
free service =/=govt controlled
at this point, everything should be free until we can forcibly transform every country into a collection of fragmented and autonomous city-states, for the purpose of establishing true self-determination and free market economies all over the world.
>normalfag shit
dumb frogposter
It would be if the goverment gave it free
"public saftey"
the council cut down all council owned trees because of this
>phones
>innovation
There's been no innovation on the phone market in the last 10 years or even more. The manufacturers literally fight for which one comes with thr dumber gimmick like: strange aspect ratios, curved screen, no bezel, 9999 cameras and so on.
there would be non at all if the government gave you a free phone 10 years ago moron
>calls the internet "normalfag" shit
You're using it right now you so what does that make you
It's a want, not a need.
>inb4 "BUT IT'S A NECESSITY IN THIS DAY AND AGE
Cars have been around commercially since 1908 and you don't see the government giving those things out for free.
Buy government you mean the tax payers, you commie faggot?
It already is whether you pay for it or not you mong.
I wouldn't have any excuse to be unreachable if they were.
Service could be. If consumer devices themselves were free, we’d see an increase in waste, which is the last thing our overwhelmed ecosystem needs.
Cars are only a necessity in shithole America since they have poor public transportation and all their places of interests are spread the fuck out.
In a real developed country everything you need is within walking distance and owning a car is just an afterthought.
The internet is a MUST for everyone in this day and age.
there was none at all brainlet.
who said i agree with the faggot op? your argument is just invalid dumbfuck hamburger.
>OP: I want slow watered down heavily censored internet and I want everyone else to be forced to have it as well
Yes that's what I meant.
You can still buy phones but the service itself should be free for anyone to use.
This.
Cars are outdated shit and will soon disappear anyway.
>In a real developed country everything you need is within walking distance
>The United States is a huge place
Yea, that's not how it works. Still not a need to have a cellphone or computer through a government assisted program.
>goverment bad
>jewgle good
Not once did I say it needs to be from some govt assisted program.
It should be owned and controlled by the people.
Cars are only unnecessary in Europe because your entire countries are smaller than my fucking state. Berlin and Moscow are closer together than New York and Houston. America is big, Europeans are small. Economically, dick lengthedly, and brained; Europeasants are just smaller in every way.
you have a really smooth brain
no cpu batter display tech os?
ok, you are low iq retard
>the people, not the government
what the fuck do you think an organization of "the people" is called
when a group of people get together to provide services and enforce regulations on a larger group that they claim to represent, what is that called?
oh right
government
Don't blame me because of all the flyover states you have and the geriatrics livi g in bumfuck nowhere rural America.
You're right. I assumed that. The tech industry is already owned and controlled by the people. It's called supply and demand. It will never be free. If a business can't make money because people don't want to donate, since everything will be free, then nobody is going to do it. The only other route is through government intervention, which only works because people are forced to pay taxes.
Europe literally has FLYOVER COUNTRIES
YOUR ENTIRE UNION IS SMALLER THAN THE EASTERN SEABOARD
WHAT THE FUCK IS POLAND FOR
IT'S BASICALLY EUROHIO
AND BELGIUM
FUCKING BELGIUM IS SMALLER THAN VIRGINIA AND EXPORTS NOTHING BUT PAPERWORK
seething
european
>when a group of people get together to provide services and enforce regulations on a larger group that they claim to represent, what is that called?
A mafia?
seethe harder mutt
Cars are unenecesary because our infracture wasnt built around them, unlike America. I know for a fact that the train system in several european cou tries can take you on a round trip to other neiborhing countries in less time it would take to drive there.
Instead of investing in better planned cities to accommodate your citizens, you built miles and miles of parking lots and highways that end up taking space that could have been used to build houses, businesses, and apartments.
A mafia is functionally equivalent to a government, the only reason it's considered criminal is that it's stepping on an existing government's toes
If you started a mafia in Somalia, taking money at gunpoint and in return providing protection and clean water, you'd be doing a better job than the actual government
You probably haven't had a breath of fresh air your whole life.
>taking up space
You really don't understand the scale of America, do you? America has more undeveloped land than Europe has landmass. Nobody cares if a freeway "takes up space" because there's always more space. Europoors build their countries in the ruins of ancient cities and cowering behind dykes below sea level, of course your restricted terrain (of your own doing) limits your options.
>good cpu is useless on a phone
>battery life keeps getting worse
>displays are the same or worse in the case of samshit turdled
>os becomes intentionally more bloated to force you to buy a better cpu
hurr durr, it's called progress, newer=better, i enjoy being a consumerist pig, muh american freedom
get a brain hamburger
Make a contract with me and i will give you a free phone and internet!
>the only reason it's considered criminal is that it's stepping on an existing government's toes
Or, you know, the mafia doesn't abide to a bill of rights for it's collective union of misfits before they slash your tires or kill your family for not paying Giovanni
>good cpu useless on phone
Have you really not noticed that in the last 5 years or so, phones lag a lot less? Maybe I've just been buying good phones, but the last time I had a stuttering mess of a phone was a Galaxy S3. Phonemakers have basically replaced optimization with brute force processing, but we've reached a point where phone processors can happily brute force even the worst UI.
Oh wait, sorry, wrong picture.
Give me one GOOD reason why you should get gibs
Neither does Britain. Unwritten constitutions are effectively no constitution at all. Many countries operate without bills of rights. It makes them shitholes, it doesn't make them not governed.
>he has no argument so now he has to reply with insults
Because we literally need it to survive in modern society.
You may not believe me but it's going to happen eventually.
Future generations wont know what its like to have pay for internet service and will be able to access it from anywhere in the world.
the world wide web is already (mostly US-) government owned
No, you don't. It enables you to do a lot of stuff but people can get along fine without owning their own computer and having a standard, government issued cell phone. If you need a computer you can go to your local library.
Now that's if you can't possibly pay for anything at all and have no source of income.
There's discounted plans for people in need when it comes to the internet and your phone plan, especially when it comes for people already living in government funded housing.
If anything, owning a car is much more important. Apply for 99% of the jobs in the US and they want to know if you have reliable transportation.
The thing you don't get is that these things are readily available to you as it is but they're not at your doorstep and handed to you like your monthly good boy point check.
>shitposting on Jow Forums is more important that sidewalks and parks
They should, as long as you don't increase taxes for it. Take it off from government branches that shouldn't be using nearly as much as they do, such as the military.
Majority of jobs now require you to submit an application online anyway so good luck getting one with any internet service.
I already covered that in my post.
Because someone has to work to make those phones and maintain the internet. Making other people work for you without paying them is called "slavery" and it's immoral, dicknuts.
That's what robots are for you simpleton.
You deaf son? You heard him.
Because they would be packed full of unapologetic backdoors, root-locks, and semi-open spying. It's like asking for one good reason not to take the Soviet Union's approach to consumer goods. Do you like waiting in line for cabbages, unable to complain or shop elsewhere?
Hey, if you want to make the robots for free, and are good enough to make ones that can repair themselves and make more of themselves and generate their own power for themselves, be my guest.
Oh no, don't tell me, those kinds of robots don't exist and won't for a long time? You mean human labor is going to be required to make phones and internet for at least a couple more decades? Oh, no, couldn't have seen that coming.
Stop breathing you absolute mistake.
>moving the goal posts
Never said robots should be free.
Only internet and phone service since those are just means of communication integral to our every day lives.
If cell phones and internet are free, but the robots that make them aren't free, then the cell phones and internet aren't really free. The people making the robots are either being forced to work for free, or they're being paid with money stolen from other people.
>or they're being paid with money stolen from other people.
bingo
>getting information about what's happening in the world, what disease you possibly have, and having access to huge amounts of literature
Yeah that's definitely less important than a literal walk in the park.
Broadband specialist here. The government could not afford in any capacity to upkeep cable internet let alone fiber. I repair lines all day long and constantly run into regular failures and whacky issues. And unless the government was paying me minimum what I get now, I would not do it. I feel bad for contractors who get paid by job and not on wages.
We indirectly pay for anything the government pays for
>government run isp
I'd rather die than be stuck with broadband forever
most people already pay for internet anyway. Might as well make it a public utility. Same with all the other utilities, we should just pay for them with taxes. My logic is it helps younger people get on their feet because they'd pay less tax because they make less money
phone is a device you should pay for it like any other industrial object..
wlan networks have servers to maintain Why does it seem so wrong to you fag?
free as in both freedom and beer internet makes sense if it is a volunarily created and maintained, ad hoc meshnet.
that would be a libertarian way to provide a free service/infrastructure.
but if the free as in beer internet was provided on a compulsory basis, it would necessarily lack freedom (censorship, incompetence, deliberate sabotage by disincentivized people, and data exploitation by corporations seeking alternative ways to monetize), which would be an inferior option.
Because we have to spend money because we're supposed to be consumers
Capitalism.
>Future generations wont know what its like to have pay for internet service and will be able to access it from anywhere in the world.
That's not true, even if you get "free" internet in the future, it won't be free, they'll fuck through taxes, even today, they fuck you with taxes and they fuck you with the internet bill.
services and hardware cost money you fucking commie. On the other hand, I feel if you have the hardware to add to the infrastructure like a connection that crosses the town, you should be able to use its connections for free.
>free cuz gov pays for it
>cries like a clueless faggot when taxes go up to sustain “free” shit
Imagine the smell of someone this stupid
No one in this thread has given any.legitimate reasons why this cant happen.
And no, muh "communism" and money viable excuses. The US alone wastes trillions of dollars a year on making a heat seeking middle that can do loop da looks and will just sit in a hangar collecting dust until it gets sold to some Saudi oil prince.
>Bah, the government can pay for it.
The government doesnt pay for shit, the taxpayer does.
>not wanting to increase taxes
You fuckers, if EVERYBODY joins the "no taxes are bad mkay" school, then you prove everybody right when they say democracy is a piece of shit used only by peasants who legislate themselves into irrelevance.
Get a job ya fucking freeloader
too many people having access to technology is a bad thing imo
I literally listed a way to get free cellphones and service, and in commiefornia it's some gold standards plan.
Not really a surprise that a NEET is uninformed, though.
nice bait
it costs a little bit yeah but some places (at least in burgerland) has only one ISP so they charge crazy rates
Who said it should?
It is, please go back to china, bugman.

Because money is an exchange for labor and labor is time performed. Free means someone's labor is not being rewarded in any way. That the energy burned provided no benefits to the laborer. You want tens if thousands to wake up every day and work for free for your pleasure and benefit while I suppose you would not leave your chair unless compensated for.
