4 mac mini powering an image board with +4 million users a month

two intlel NUCs because they run at like 14 watts while being able to have 32gigs of ram and two ports for storage. Next time though I want to cluster two nodes fully so I'll need more NICs. Also lets me use vsphere integrated container host which is pretty useful actually

How much do you guys pay for your servers btw

Intel NUC N2820 with 4gb ram and 4tb storage.
it was around $125 for the nuc

A 4 gig ram Raspberry Pi clone for 70 bucks.

just checked them out again
they went fully international at contabo.com/

what's the catch here? how come i've never heard of these guys before?

there's literally no catch. contabo.com/?show=configurator&vserver_id=245

The catch is that you should really read reviews first. Contaboo is known to be basically dogshit. The price is good but there are better hosters out there for the same price that don't do all kinds of jewery like limiting IO which Contaboo has been doing for ages.

never had any issues.
seriously.

i did look at reviews but most read like bots. how do you know that they limit IO? do you have a source?

I rented two servers from them. Both had their IO crippled to say the least. As for reviews if you want English ones instead of German ones (which make up the majority desu) search for "contabo io limiting" you'll find a lot of reviews discussing this. But as always make up your own mind I'm not gonna shill anyone I'm just sharing my personal experience with them.

>io limiting
wait are you talking about internet IO or drive IO?
I noticed it said on the bottom of the page
>in case your server has an uplink faster than 100 Mbit/s: If average traffic consumption continuously exceeds 100 Mbit/s over a timespan of at least 9 days the connection is switched to 100 Mbit/s
and I really don't mind a 100Mbit/s connection, lol

>tattoos over breasts
absolute trash

HDD and SSD IO not Internet I know they have a fair use clause and limit if you violate it.

>Xeon X3220 (cheapest 775 quadcored)
>intel S300AH (cheapest 775 mb with sata)
>4x2gb of generic DDR2 RAM
>2tb seagate hdd
>old PSU I salvaged and repaired
>old arctic cooler
Cost me 50€ and it runs web/ftp/samba/whatever servers just fine
