Scientists will continue to use specialized equipment and cloud and devs will continue to use mobile workstations that can be brought home and plugged into stations at work. idk why they advertised development on that monitor in landscape though, probably to appeased the type of crowd that was there.

Aggressive, but i'm in the same boat as this guy. I work in video and advertisement and this thing is a godsend. We're pondering getting 2 of these to share with 5 staff. I know my boss would spend 10k on that afterburner capture card alone because of the time it would save. For reference we made $42000 CAD on a project that took a week this year. Now imagine if we were able to do if cut eliminate encoding, proxy media and render times. We'll probably still send 3D work to RenderRocket but all live post work would be cut down considerably.

Our company is all Mac and iPad so we didn't need to hire an IT specialist, only a network security contractor. In fact I do all of the (very little) MDM and configuration work myself in my downtime. The Mac Pro currently has like 1% workstation market share, and companies like HP, Dell and Lenovo have the market firmly in their hands, with established reputation, contracts and warranties. I doubt the Mac Pro will break single digit percentage of market share, as the lack of CUDA heavily restricts its use cases.

I didn't watch the presentation because I don't care, but a few years ago I was "forced" into watching the Apple conference when they revealed the iMac Pro (not to be confused with the Mac Pro) under the same pretense of "muh power users" with semi-high end specs for the time for $5,000. I have yet to see anyone use one outside of an Apple store.
