Hey OP, I wish to help you usher in the digital dystopia filled with vat-grown muscle and beauty, intelligent AIs that evade the Turing Police, and huge multinationals that wage war on each other through all possible means.

You're punk because shits fucked and you're cyberpunk because shits cyberfucked. Why would you want to fuck up shit so you can be punk? Anyway, here's your way: Fuck everything up. Get a job at Google or sonething.

yea I mean cyberpunk is basically just a rougher version of shanghai 20 years from now

low life high technology
>thinkpad with libre boot
>ramen noodles
>3d printing guns

at this point unironically would be engineering, we need more people with knowledge of physics, since that's the field that de facto helped and created others (communications, hardware, etc).
you can always be a brainlet and go the easy path of networking, security or overall software development.

NSA IT department in your country. focus on AI face recognition and financial inconsistencies search engines

There's something really appealing about cyberpunk and cyberpunk settings. I think it's the combination of raw pursuit of capitalism, struggle against the man, anything goes mentality, and unlimited possibility that comes with the appropriate sacrifices.

Found the corporatefag.

it's appealing because you've lived a sheltered privileged life in a safe easy society and it's a novel fantasy instead of brutal reality
go live in any tier 1 city in china and see if you can even last a year

You first worlders have no idea what those words can really mean.

Based retard, cyberpunk is high-tech and low-life. It is turbo neo-liberalism and further reducing the middle class.

More people will be in low wage jobs, even multiple at a time. Crime is peaking outside of the districts of the super rich. You had too much s*ycaf.

You'd be the first to get jacked of your augs by either repomen for unpaid rent or some chinks selling your implants on the black market.

>muh utopian future
DYS-TO-PIA

More like office wage slave number #23498571 thinking he can leave the vicious cycle. In the future there is no way to work yourself up unless you are born into wealth.

>implying a favela antenna from the 80's is "high tech"

Laughs in 5G and behind a fibre internet access. South America is low tech low life.

Only Asia can be cyberpunk. Never Baltimore, Sao Paulo or London.

Attached: orig[1].jpg (2500x1408, 694K)

yea the future of globalist capitalism is neo-feudalism, you can see it starting already in some areas, where if you're not part of the "nu-aristocracy" in some regions you can never make it onto the property ladder and are stuck renting for your entire life even on reasonable wages
the middle class was a short lived phenomenon that only existed due to ww2 and north america injecting an enormous amount of new real estate and opportunities, the middle class will disappear once again and turn back into the natural state of humanity which is lower class and upper class only

In many ways we are here already. Aka "the future is already here - it is just not evenly distributed".

See above.

What about Looper?
If that movie ain't a cybertech dystopia, what is?
Think back to the short street scenes full of the poor and crazy left to fight it out amongst themselves.

Agreed. Cyberpunk always has the filthy masses and a 0.01% hyper elite.

>using movies instead of real life examples
fucking reddits

So like zombie fantasy but for average Jow Forums?

Vote Democrat. Nothing will create squalor, wealth disparity and dystopia faster.

kill the sun

You should take the path to faggot

>thinking my point was about how advanced technology is

And that's why you will never get it. The "low life" point is the problem for you to undestand. For instance, I have never seen any realistic display of widespread hunger ou lack of basic healthcare in cyberpunk fiction of any media. Even organized crime is seen as something way more ordered and peaceful than it should be.

I think we are in early cyberpunk. Or maybe just reality is more boring than fiction.

Whew, that projection. Found the NPCs with zero agency.

> I have never seen any realistic display of widespread hunger ou lack of basic healthcare in cyberpunk fiction of any media.
What kind of Happy-Time Media do you read or watch?
I have a recommendation for you: Neuromancer. The lead character is a small-time American grifter down on his luck self-medicating with booze, drugs, and loose women. He's got weeks before either his liver gives out or one of his, ahem, business partners kills him. Everything is grey and most-everyone is poor.

So what you're saying is we need more (low) slice of life? Maybe a story of the guy cleaning up dead gangsters and maybe scavenging some bits of augments, only to head back to their coffin and turn on the old vr-telly?

I lived in shenzen for 3 years and shanghai for 2 years. you haven't got a clue.

>I think we are in early cyberpunk.
On the contrary, I think we are deep in it already
- media runs the world
- corporations more powerful than ever
- VR and AR is here, again not evenly distributed
- CRISPR/Cas9 is already in use, complete with illegal gene shops in Asia.
- vat grown meat and tissue are part of reality, vat grown muscles and brain tissue are probably coming soon
>Or maybe just reality is more boring than fiction.
Transplant anyone from 1970 into 2020 and they would recoil in horror. Boringness is just how the boiling frog principle operates.

Attached: Human_Augmentation.gif (700x520, 54K)

>I lived in shenzen for 3 years and shanghai for 2 years
Congrats user, so do several million chinks. Doesn't change the fact that you are projecting hard.

I have read Neuromancer. It displays no realistic poverty at all. The main character is not what I consider poor. Nor are any of the other characters. The general atmosphere is depressing, not poor. Rule of thumb: if you know you will be able to survive to the end of this month, then you're not poor.

There's many different variations of cyberpunk aesthetics, the ones I really like is where everything starts to look really alien, like forget the generic "LA but with more blinky lights", I want strange terrifying vertical futurescapes with pyramids and art deco temples to cyberbrains and subspecies of human-beyonds that barely even look recognizable anymore. I like shit where the technomancy has progressed so far it rolls back over into the metaphysical.

If you were there for work, you're absolutely bullshitting if you can't write a Chinese document. It's the first thing any company considers for a China posting.

>Facts do not count in my world.
Someone got lost in a virtual world.

>A suggestion is now a demand
Don't bother leaving your virtual world.

Is that what Fox News tells you? Some basic math will tell you that's bullshit. Mathematically, in the long run the size of income groups depends on relative wage growth of each, not tax rates. The difference between after tax income of a 25% and 15% tax rate is only 13%, which at the average wage growth of 3% compounded annually is only worth a few years of setback. The persistent increase in the share of pie for the rich is because wage growth is vastly uneven. Curving the tax brackets as opposed to flattening it, ie democrat vs republican tax policy, slows it down.

And there's some serious cuck logic by saying the rich have loopholes so let's tax them less. The rich do have a much lower effective tax rate - Warren Buffett's is only 12% - because for some reason the capital gains tax is vastly lower than income tax.

>>media runs the world
>No it doesn't. Opinion pieces on how trump sucks is not media running the world. You should see Global Times for actual propaganda.
Around here (Europe) the press would happily quote Pravda for truth, and these days I see some quote RT for more truthiness. They have no shame, and also they curate what is politically correct. Trump and Brexit are revolts against the elite but are the exceptions to the rule.
>>corporations more powerful than ever
>By what measure? Revenue? Corporations are the economy and they grow accordingly.
By revenue and political power. Apple, Google and others are raking it in and hardly pay taxes. Vast sums are paid for lobbyists. They do that because it works. They also control what is visible and that includes even what advertising is made visible.
>>VR and AR
>Slicing fruit with handsets is not the Matrix
AR in helmets visor used by fighter pilots in targeting is. Development continues and research is continuing in how to insert images directly into the brain.
>>CRISPR, illegal gene shops
>No. Still confined to labs.
So? It takes skill and will be sued in labs for a while yet. Meanwhile you can get your own CRISPR kits, including DIY kits.
>Some doctor in China claimed to have used it on some child.
And he has been disappeared. Also in the UK a three parent baby was born.
>>vat grown meat
>Its still far cheaper to raise livestock,
Today, yes. Scaling tends to go exponentially.
>and there's no one who even knows how to surgically graft grown muscle onto a living being.
They have the skills to surgically graft grown heart valves into a living heart. Nerve recommenction is a hard problem but people are working on it.

My point exactly. Still not here yet.

Wait till Africans get on the internet.
Africa will be the ultimate cyberpunk dystopia.

I envision corporations with private armies ruling their own cities and Chinese colonization in the more developed areas.

Attached: 1035px-InternetPenetrationWorldMap.svg.png (1035x531, 173K)

A bit late? Nigeria letters have been a thing for years now. And with the projected African population explosion things sure will go even more dystopic.

Also private armies are a thing in Africa.

Install Gentoo

Gibson's Neuromancer is a great book. My favorite character had to be Wintermute.

Growing up, I thought that I would become Case, but it turns out that I'm rather a lot more like Armitage, albeit without anything half as violent as Screaming First.

Yeah, exactly. If Case isn't considered rock-bottom in chapter one, then who is?

>great book
I mean, Kuang Grade Mark 11 and the other slang was cool, but Jesus everyone in the book is practically retarded. Why is it that sci-fi seems to be split between stories where the characters are brilliant, cool headed and rational like Foundation, I Robot and Fountains of Paradise, and broken drug addicted sociopaths like Neuromancer and Hyperion?

Attached: 1558009404714.png (359x332, 113K)

This.

The characters are just making it up as they go along, just like you or me. They are just on the outermost ripple far from where the stone was thrown into the pond. They know there are ripples, but have no clue what is the cause.

Plus, the world is modern and gritty without all that earnest, plodding prattle that weighed down SF before Neuromancer was published.

And the characters aren't just mouthpieces for the author's endless monologues. They are fresh and interesting, even the small throwaway ones.

We were talking about AR and VR and these are a thing today. As for cranial jacks we are getting there, the FAQ has a few examples.

>>people are working on it
>My point exactly. Still not here yet.
We have sufficient tech to qualify for a cyberpunk present. It will most likely progress deeper into a dystopia, until toppled by its own complexities.

I don't mean ignorance. Most SF characters even in the non dystopian ones, including the detective Baley from caves of steel and Golan from the later Foundation books, don't know what's going on. They're looking for answers, which is what the whole book is about.

Or that the world is gritty, like do robots dream of electric sheep and the Caves of Steel, where society suffers from issues like overpopulation and a scarcity of resources.

I mean why are the characters so often fucked up? Cage is a drug addicted, alcoholic street hustler who hates himself because he couldn't pluck up the balls to ask a girl to leave Chiba with him? Or Rivera, who's some kind of weird murder fetishist? There practically isn't a single person in Neuromancer who acts with a purpose and purses it with a modicum of logic except the AI.

I thought Molly was rather sane, though she has a rather damaged background.

was in Chinatown in Bangkok earlier this year for work.
Place is already like so many of these stylised pics...the mechanics district is like it is straight outta Neuromancer.

bbc.com/news/world-africa-48579475
With utmost brutality, I would guess. They already have about 3000 executions a year, so another 10000 in Africa will probably not be noticed. African grade dystopia is on the horizon.
