No not really

no but they work better with your hot swap rack which you SHOULD HAVE because internal drives are fucking TRASH and OBSOLETE.

...Then why are they fuckhueg?

?
They're smaller than desktop's hard drives.

No, but I like how they're quieter and can be powered off 5V.

desktop drives typically have more platters

I was referring to desktops.

What does that mean for their performance, though?

Do you even lift?

Back in my days safety boots were required to install an HDD.

>not just using an array of usb external drives

laptop HDs run at 5200RPM and in theory their rotors would last more
But since you're moving the laptop every time you take it away that actually diminishes it life cycle
in other words: use SSD

just a warning not to buy 2.5 inch firecuda drives ive never had issues with seagates before but my 2tb firecuda just died recently no clicking no nothing just flat out died it was less than a year old. When googling about it i found quite a lot of people saying they had the same issue

Funfact,

The old iPods were HDD based, and was actually the highest capacity ones for like a decade at least.

160GB model released in 2007

You need to go up to 7th gen iPod Touch released in 2019 for a 256GB flash model.

Spinning rust had a good run.

Jow Forums should I get an SSD for win 10? What brand should I get?

Samsung 970 evo plus

>not using an ssd in 2019

Is it easy to migrate your HDD to an SSD or win10 will be more fucked?

some 2.5 hdds are as loud as 3.5

How does this work, wouldn't the HDDs get hot without any form of cooling?

I see you have important data with no backups, it would be a shame if something happened to it.

You fucking clone your drive to one, or literally move the files to it anyway you like. It's another storage medium. Do you think SSDs are made of ghosts or some shit? Jesus Christ.

>not using a personal Drive Cloud

3.5" are typically faster and less $/TB than 2.5" drives and have higher maximum capacities. They're louder though so unless you're on a tight budget or need >5TB you'll probably be happier with a 2.5" drive.

Higher storage capacity.

>Hybrid drive
There's your problem

I've got a bunch of 20 year old HDDs that still work, use them as external drives for storing fuck-old stuff i'll probably never need again.

probably the only thing windows would do is to think it is using a hdd and not a sdd, maybe.

no.
i once hold a 2.5" hdd wrong and it died.

you need to be gentle, think of them as a little baby.

In my experience, yes.

I've never had a 2.5 fail out of like 8-10 that I've owned while 3/4 3.5 drives I've had died within 5 years.

Could be bad luck, I don't buy mechanical drives anymore.

>Capping your transfer rate to usb bus speed limits.
Imagine being this broke.

Seriously, who the fuck uses swap racks? What are you hiding user? Child porn? Illegal stuff? Or do you just like to waste money? WHAT DO YOU HIDE, NEEEEEEEEERD

>Could be bad luck, I don't buy mechanical drives anymore.
Other way around for me kinda. I've only had one 3.5" HDD die in my time but I've seen over 10 2.5" kick the bucket.
