What is the current status of haiku?

Same question, genuinely interested

In May they made drastic kernel improvements that saw a 15-20% performance increase overall and higher in some areas. Playing Youtube is now quite viable in Otter Browser and QMPlay2. All it's really missing is a good port of firefox, which they expect by the end of the year. At the current rate the second beta release will be out by october. It's going very well.

Isn't someone fixing up webpositive so it can finally have a decent adblocker?

>beefzone
based

It is still a single-user operating system, which means you are running everything as root. So that's going to be a yikes from me, dawg.

I didn't see anything about that in the past few monthly reports, but it may have been on the mailing lists.
By default yes, but you can add multiple users using useradd and passwd. The thing is, it is not a unix-like os so there is no root, just one level of permissions.

I changed the colors a little since the screenshot was taken

That sounds like a security hell

what is the point? do you really need to feel special?

post your desktop fag

how does haiku behaves with third party programs? say I want to install firefox, a fork of chromium or whatever github project, is the terminal going to yell at me?

my neck is hurting so it might take me a minute but let me head to my other computer and I'll post my current desktop

Probably. Porting a Linux app would take a significant amount of rewriting.

DOA. Send flowers.

Here is it with changed colors.

Attached: scrt.png (1366x768, 87K)

it took a while because I forgot, not because the neck pain (which does still exist)

Attached: file.png (6400x1440, 483K)

Probably the biggest load of bullshit I've read on Jow Forums for a while.

>what is creating a user account

Nice rio colors, user - but why would you ever use gnuplot? Install Julia.

WE'RE GONNA TURN THIS INTO ONE BIG ORGY

Are you using Stardock software for the custom theme? I tried using a trial but all of the themes I tried looked goofy and didn't scale well on my 4K monitor but I noticed you have HiDPI too...

Attached: desktop_17.06.19.png (5760x2160, 1.06M)

No I'm not using any stardock software, and I don't have any high DPI screens

Guessing it's bblean then or some kind of mod to explorer.exe? And apologies, I've had a drink (or two)...

Fuckin replied to my own comment, Jesus...

No, did you reply to the wrong post or something? This is standard windows 7 rice

Using haiku I opened a terminal and could type a bunch of bash commands, why? Isn't this not Linux?
Also mouse acceleration sucks and makes navigation awful, UI is clunky. i3 is just so much quicker.

I can remember my friend doing something similar when I was still at school on Win7 but that was probably 10yrs ago? And yeah, check out :),

How do you do it? Can I do it on Win10 or not?

Attached: 1560443618713.jpg (760x489, 56K)

>haha look at me i had a drink i'm so quirky ;)
this reeks of an underage

Glad to know I still sound young lmao. Only asked a question m8.

Attached: le xd face.jpg (960x835, 78K)

I've been drinking all day personally
Theming on Windows 10 is a huge pain because updates fuck with the theme stuff so you need themes built for the same build of windows you're using but yeah it's possible

you don't scream about it online every post

I know that neofetch is better in literally every single way but penguin is cute ;3

Attached: desktop2.png (1920x1080, 397K)

Fair enough. I was hoping that I could find some obscure(non-malicious) software through yourself to rice out my Wangblows. Nice rice but I don't think I'll be going back to Win7 now I've been on Win10 for so long.

I love retro desktops. They are always so much more comfy.

Looks infinitely better than the modern minimalist faggy DE's/DE theme's that have been tossed around for the past 15 years or so in my opinion. Maybe I just want to go back though. Who knows.

you have to be at least this cute to post itt

Please stop posting

why

Couldn't agree more. Earliest OS I remember is 98 and I don't think it's nostalgia that makes me like the retro themes so much but rather a feeling that those times were more simplistic than they are now... Maybe it's the same thing... Let's just keep hoping our rice will bring back the good days or, at the very least, preserve them somewhat. Pic related.

Fucking amazing if you don't care about hardware acceleration and security. Kind of meh if you need hardware acceleration and I would not dream of putting it into production on a server. I would, however, shit my pants if the Haiku devs implemented some of the security features from OpenBSD and made an effort to get some suckless programs working flawlessly on Haiku.

Haiku is a fully POSIX-compliant UNIX-like OS with full multiuser support, but it does not currently have GUI-based multiuser support and it does not ask for you to create a normal user account.

If it behaves well with GCC, it should probably work without too much effort. Linux-specific programs will take some time and effort though.

It ships with a bash shell so you'll feel sort of at home. The UI is distinctly Haiku; if you spend the time to learn it, you can get very fast with a combination of keyboard shortcuts and GUI elements.

Glad to hear how it's coming along. I've always been keen on the ideas behind BeOS and now Haiku.

>Firefox port
Hooray!

went full retard with customizing lxde on my newly corebooted X60s. Always thought that it was absolute garbage in terms of daily use, but it's surprisingly usable when you get around to it.

quick question: has anyone got transparency (real or fake) working on lxde? It seems utterly broken for me :<
also sry for doublebump

SkiFree as.. Dude?
Process Hacker2, which I assume, is the standard task manager?

Aye it's a bit daft but I was bored one day and renamed some of the shortcuts.

>standard task manager
Nah, Process Hacker is an alternative task manager.

ay, The More I Know

Absolutely based

I see *BSD mentioned a lot on it, how come? also any good resources?

Haiku is a bit of a security hell right now. Reading through mailing lists on their plans for multi-user support and program security, it's pretty clear that they haven't actually given security any thought or focus at all yet, they're just trying to get Haiku to a stable release for now.

post wallpaper

not sure if neck crick is healing naturally or booze btfo it but it is hurting less

I was there when it was made. once in a lifetime experience.

Good. Always wished BeOS would have been something. Looking forward to a viable release.

And no im not larping

Attached: Screenshot_from_20190617_143310.png (1366x768, 228K)

In my experience, BSD programs are better made and more portable than Linux programs. Therefore, porting BSD-based programs is a little easier than Linux programs. Haiku also tends to follow the UNIX way a more than Linux, although the "program that does one thing and does it well" is often GUI based for ease of use.

neat

Attached: 2019-06-18_06:22.png (1600x900, 1.21M)

Who the fuck expects Firefox port you shit? Nobody even working on it.

But why

I'm a security analyst so it's just works for me

Attached: pastelDesktop.png (1366x744, 1.18M)

D'yall care about distros and OSes? If you had the ability to install any desktop environment from any OS/distro from any time to rice, would you bother about changing the underlying distro/OS/kernel?

unironically hate every day that my OS (aka whatever linux distro im usinga the time) doesn't have its own name and logo

...you can already do that (besides the closed source stuff but I wouldn't use that anyway). everybody just uses a distro they like the best hopefully

Mandriva drip

Attached: deskun.png (1280x800, 619K)

glad to see rpm distros like pclinuxos and openmandriva are becoming active again

what do you look for in a distro? i never really distro-hopped, just changing DE is enough for me, distros never really made enough of an impact for me to change
what do you feel about distro spoofing? or even lfs?

Fuck off summerfag shitlord

i like your desktop!

Now down to one windows install at my home.

Attached: ccc.png (1600x900, 2.16M)

I know it got support for nve drives.
A lot more qt programs and recently node.js(ugh).
Still waiting on getting minecraft working with openjdk

the package manager is the most important reason. stabillity or bleeding edge is another big factor and whether it's a minimal diy or beginner distro. It's great that you're already comfortable with your distro because most users including me hopped around for years until we finally settled...and then hopped again

Literally had to solve 10 different captchas. Fuck this shit
