Mom has this shitty old laptop that just werks

>mom has this shitty old laptop that just werks
>"user, in the last months it became very hot"
>give it a look
>90°C
>open it, clean the fan, change thermal paste
>50°C
>"wait a while mom, probably I can upgrade the cpu too"
>laptop has a Intel B830, Socket G2 (rPGA988B), HM70 chipset
>install an unused 3120M
>boots
>works fine
>suddenly it shuts down
>spend more than an hour to understand why the laptop shuts down after half an hour every time
>find out online that this chipset it's perfectly capable of running every cpu in it's line like an HM75, but it's scripted to shut down after exactly 30 minutes if you don't use a cpu on the whitelist
Jesus Christ, wtf is this shit? I can't wait to see their fall.

Post pictures of mom's feet

Put the old cpu in so your mom can keep watching blacked porn, fag

>but it's scripted to shut down after exactly 30 minutes if you don't use a cpu on the whitelist
topkek
This is epic

It's fucked how hard it is to setup a machine that respects your digital freedoms these days
RMS was right about everything

It's jewtel what did you expect?

>replacing the cpu in a laptop

Honestly this was a decent idea user.

pic related
it's not soldered on the mobo like the new ones, yet you can't change it because it's fucking scripted to shut down. at least she can now use it without thermal hazards, but it's still bullshit. I'll throw in a cheap ass ssd maybe to make it faster

SSD is probably the greatest difference you can make in a laptop. Slow CPUs are okay for browsing, but an HDD bogs down EVERYTHING.

>shutdown after 30 minutes
the jews at it again

Fuck every laptop manufacturer who does that shit, it should be fucking illegal. I wanted to replace the wifi card in my old HP laptop because the broadcom one had terrible GNU/Linux support, but the piece of shit has a whitelist and refuses to boot if it detects a different one.

You might be able to find a patched BIOS that removes the whitelist.
I think I had to do this for one of my old HP laptops too.

at least it doesn't boot at all. op's pc shuts down after 30 minutes. that shit can't be legal

This.

kek

Just install a patched BIOS, did that a few years ago when i changed the wi-fi of a friend's laptop, no big deal. Just make sure the BIOS is the correct one or you can brick the system

use a kosher CPU next time, goy.

Never install Linux on a laptop that's not a ThinkPad.

not sharing them, they are just for me :^)

Come on.

Sad but true. Which manufacturer does this by the way OP?

my aorus works great but its 5 years old now

They also have whitelists.

it's a Compaq cq58

>brick
just turn it back on

is your mom hot?

How you're going to start the system without a working BIOS?

Attached: dense.jpg (474x390, 26K)

you are as much of a jew as is intel

jumper leads from the car

Acer wouldn't betray me like that, right? I only buy Acer.

>not using jumper cables from your own nipples

>I tried to derail the thread
>y-you are the jew

>30 minutes
sounds very suspiciously like the intel ME emergency shutdown
run your bios through me_cleaner and set the HAP bit & clean the unnecessary shit, it may work then

wtf intel

you could also post a screenshot of the current ME state just to see anything suspicious is going on

I closed it and now it's working with its shitty celeron, I don't want to open it again. This is the only intel-based pc in my house, this works as a lesson.
It's too old to waste time on it.

>tfw you have to run your bios through me_cleaner, whitelist remover, manually update slic and CPU microcode just to get it working the way it should have from the factory.

You need to get a custom BIOS that removes the whitelist.

Also bumpin' for this

>but it's scripted to shut down after exactly 30 minutes if you don't use a cpu on the whitelist
I refuse to believe that even intelaviv would be this much of a bunch of kikes holy shit.

Ted Kaczinsy is an American hero.

>HM70 chipset
It's /that/ chipset. No other mobile chipsets do this, or rather they don't need to since all mobile CPUs are soldered now.

Try running ME_Cleaner. It might work, might not work.

>custom BIOS
Not the BIOS. It' either in the ME region or hardcoded in the PCH

Intel sold h/w and then they sold cards which you scratched and got a unique id.
That id was then entered into the intel product and unlocked more features. Iirc it was intel switches or something.

Wasn't it a code that enabled hyperthreading?

upgrade to an ssd

that is more likely to make a noticable difference to your mom

also post her feet

Actually for those CPUs if you swap out for another motherboard the CPU is automatically unlocked

The HM70 is a similar situation where the motherboard has the limitation.
