Im pretty sure it was accessability (to devices and to content) and not icon design in the slightest. Imagine owning a desktop just to web browse. You would have to have space, buy something extra (most need a phone anyway), not just one thing but keyboard/mouse/monitor (inuitive), low effort to use (vs go to pc, start up, turn off).

Cant wait for linux smartphones. No botnets and free/libre.
