Big sis here. Used to spend so much fucking time learning stuff on the computer, but gave up on studying a tech career due to my lack of understanding of physics and work consistency.

Now I just like to mess with cables and fix stuff.

They exist, but many of them arnt ambitious types who chase large salaries and management positions. You'd find more women in Open Source operations, in smaller bespoke companies, mid-size engineering firms, that kind of stuff. More of them stay in their home state/country too, so less moving around when job hunting so there are less on the coast or in major cities, unless they already lived close.

Basically at most within a day or a few hours of their parents/main family.

I'm not sure in tech, but at least in mathematics there a few woman in research because they are the ones who enjoy doing math. Most woman start math because they want to be teachers or because it's "easy", but end up complaining that is hard, that it should be taught easier, blah blah blah...
