Best thinkpad for being relatively modern and maintainable/upgradable? I don't need anything particularly powerful, i'll just be programming and doing internet things. Preferably possible to make it botnet free and still usable

I'd recommend t430 if you want corebootable and upgradable. You can upgrade it to a maximum of i7 cpu with 16gb of RAM, 1600x900 display, ssd + hdd storage. And you can get this with a lower price than buying some shitty modern laptop that focuses on portability thus reducing power usage by reducing processing power. The keyboard is also very good imo but you can still switch to the t420 mechanical one. Hope my shilling helped.

when is the next x1 coming out?

Should I get a X250 (768p IPS with 340 cd/m2 brightness) or a T450s (1080p IPS with 270 cd/m2 brightness). otherwise same specs.

what thinkpad have the best fan? I like my PC to be silent when i'm just browsing/editing text files

Probably better off getting the T450s, The extra screen real-estate is handy to have and there is a huge difference in weight from what I remember also the T450s should have better resale value.

T450s, 768p is cancer. Though there are 1080p screens available for the X250 if you want to track them down.
Anything that isn't a "muh thinness" meme and has good thermal paste.

So right now I want to lure my gf from mac away by introducing her to some proper stuff.

I was thinking about:
Lenovo V130-14IKB 81HQ00ENGE 14" FHD i5-7200U 8GB/256GB SSD DOS for 400€

but as I see here
>Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™

What would be an alternative to the laptop above

seriously considering either a Thinkpad P52 or a P1. help me thinkbros.

Best modern X series for battery life, screen and possibly touch screen? My x201 is feeling a little dated and runs hot.

T420 / X220, you don’t want a horse shit chicklet keyboard do you?

Attached: C35D948F-94FA-4224-A95A-6A213D00BAD9.jpg (1242x1518, 1.44M)

Can’t beat the X201, just refresh your thermal paste, clean the dust bunnies out, get an SSD if you haven’t already, and enjoy one of the best laptops ever made.

What were those dankpads user got from taobao in the last thread?

>My x201 is feeling a little dated and runs hot.
change the paste x201 is peak thinkpad, t410 is good if you want a larger screen

im seeing alot of listings saying the battery of many thinkpads i've looked at last, upto 20 mins without being plugged in. is this true?

should I get a t495 or a x395?

Thinking those pics are gross is perfectly normal though.

Batteries don't age all that well ya know..

batteries are pretty much the only part that actually degrades on a thinkpad

Supernoob here
Can someone explain cpus to me?
Why does ryzen 7 3700u cost more than ryzen 5 3500u when it scores lower on the benchmark sites
Wtf do these numbers even mean? I thought higher numbers = better?
Ive been comparing benchmarks and intel and amd have released some cpus in 2019 that are worse than some of their cpus from 2014?? Why even release them?
t. Super confuse user

>I thought higher numbers = better?
Have you ever seen Windows 7 and Windows 8 side by side?

have you ever seen the Matrix 1 and the Matrix 3 side by side?

inteltard tax.

yeah just buy a chink 9cell for whatever machine you get, dont invest in an oem battery because they are overpriced and only get about 10% more capacity. They degrade at the same rate in msot cases aswell so aren't really worth the extra

Attached: 61244486_p1.png (577x814, 304K)

going with an i5 x220 but getting rid of windows

Attached: 1560368068248.png (500x378, 67K)

get the i7 if it's not a lot more in price

+140 in price, but good condition with 8GB ram.

What does this have to do with intel?
Its the same for both companies

Completely different ballgame
Those things dont have a front and centre benchmark score that tells you how good it is at doing what its supposed to be doing
Anyone have an actual answer

Lads is this a good deal

>$135
>T420
>6gb RAM
>900p screen
>500GB HDD

Obviously I plan to swap the HDD for an SSD and maybe bump the ram/batter/repaste the thermal paste

I just bought one such for 90€ (~100 USD) except with 8GB RAM, and Euro prices are supposedly worse, go figure.

So I'm fairly new at this and I'm gonna get a T440p, but before I do, I'm here to ask some questions about modding, upgrading, that kinda shit.

Would it make sense if I put the OS in an M2 SSD and everything else in a regular SSD on the computer?

What would be the best upgrades or mods to give the T440p? (e.g. Replacing the CPU, giving it an antenna so it has more range, updating the BIOS, that kinda stuff.)

Would it be possible to convert 2 T440p LCDs into monitors? I think the idea would be pretty cool.

Fuck. Alright I'll see if I can work him down to $120. It's just some dude on Craigslist who lives nearby

Attached: Oldfags.jpg (640x480, 42K)

The actual answer is that you thought wrong.

Yeah, go for it. Spent ~$160 for the same, so you're good.

Enjoying my T440p with my marisa deka!

Attached: IMG_20190619_131910_DRO.jpg (2560x1440, 2.4M)

>buy a t520 from Amazon
>get sent a t530 with a note that says "enjoy your better specs :)"
now what

You complain that you didn't get your t520 and get it for free while keeping the t530

Has anyone ever tried putting the old keyboards on the new thinkpads? I love the keyboard on my T420, but I need something more powerful for school and I want to play some games. I know they sell the laptop keyboards as an external keyboard. What if I just Frankenstein a new laptop?

Attached: 1554682709377.png (800x600, 521K)

Good luck getting that to work, user.

Enjoy the superior machine. You can put the old keyboard in easily if you care about that.

>you know chinks are rangebanned right?
That's not true, you can see chinese flags on Jow Forums and Jow Forums.

I'd also like to add to this another question:

Which GPU is the best out of the 2 and how can I look for one that has it?

Attached: 71gSOVu8tJL._SX425_.jpg (425x395, 18K)

Thinking about getting one for college, I don't know if I should buy a newer one. Will primarily be used for notetaking, and possibly use with some type of music software.

anyone has a photo on how a t4xx looks with 9 cells battery?
does it affect mobility much?

Decent price if it's in good condition. I got my X230 for $150 and I thought that was a bit high.

>Would it make sense if I put the OS in an M2 SSD and everything else in a regular SSD on the computer?
Yes. Make sure your M2 drive's size is compatible.
>What would be the best upgrades or mods to give the T440p? (e.g. Replacing the CPU, giving it an antenna so it has more range, updating the BIOS, that kinda stuff.)

This is all you need, friendo. Enjoy your Thinkpad.

Anyone here from Victoria Australia? I have a Thinkpad L520 if anyone wants it for free.

the T X and W/P series recommendations is for us autists and likeminded inviduals. If you're looking for something for your gf probably the x1c is what she'll be most satisfied with. Chances are she values weight, thickness, and appearance way more than you do.

Currently need a new laptop for work, mostly for teleconferencing and occasional shitposting. I was originally looking at the dell xps 13, but I saw the soldered in Killer wifi chip and and decided to pass. Now I'm leaning towards a zenbook 13 or an x280/x390. Are there any other ultrabooks I should be looking at? Not interested in port-lacking huawei devices

bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/refurbished-lenovo-thinkpad-x220-laptop-12-5-intel-core-i5-8gb-ram-128gb-ssd-win-10-home/13507258

Should I cop? I never bought refurbished, what are your thoughts on buying refurbished?

Way too expensive, that spec is like $120 max.

thicc and nice
Like those keys used to be.
Fuck chiclet keys.

Attached: flaccos_favorite_logo.jpg (362x269, 33K)

Amazon has the I7 model for cheaper bud.

niggers

It's been done for the xx30 series since the old keyboard mostly just werks if you plug it in but good luck getting any of the newer ones to work.

Refurbished isn't usually a good deal and that is definitely not a good deal.

Got a t480 with a mx150, it's annoying that the CPU throttles like hell and the fan blows like crazy. Tried everything, just going with nouevou, just Intel shit, proprietary novidea. Thinkpads will and stay bad until they switch from Intel to amd

I want to upgrade a panel on my x250 from hd to fullhd. The reviews are mixed, a lot of people say that brightness buttons don't work. I heard something about changing the device ID in BIOS, but I can't find any information about that. Can it be fixed?

Attached: Screenshot_Firefox_20190620-123558-01.jpg (1078x1057, 155K)

Found it, you can rewrite the device EDID with a tool called edid-rw. Has anyone did it before?

Attached: IMG_20190620_092417_682.jpg (720x1280, 200K)

cringe alert

shit

Brand new Thinkpad L470 with i5-7200U with SSD. It’s 880usd, 760eur. Yes or no? I can afford it since it will bought on small business. Can’t buy second hand for what it will be used. Main question is keyboard durability and tough it is in the next 5 years of use?

It is over.

It's not thinkpads fault that linux is shit at using optimus graphics desu

No. Don't buy L series.

The Intel throttle is a Linux fault

>Ordered and paid for X230 from Ebay on 16/6/19
>it's 20/6/19 and it still hasn't shipped

I use a P50 at work and I think I'm starting to get why you fags like these laptops. It's a nice computer.

Work got me a used x260, this thing is pretty neat

i7, dual battery, fhd ips, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd and a fingerprint reader

I still love my T440p but this thing is gonna serve me well

I get t460s last month. Absolutely based laptops, people who say newer thinkpads ain't shit can go fuck themself.

However, I still have heavy beaten T510. It is has i5-520 and it's too heavy to carry around. What cool stuff can I make with old laptop like that? I thought about setting up basic home server just for fun.

The closest I’ve seen was a guy that mashed together a T25 and a T480, but it was not a seamless project by any means. I’d recommend that you actually try the keyboard on a new Thinkpad—you might find that you actually like it.

If you absolutely must have the classic keyboard, look into buying one of the bootleg chinkpads from 51nb. They just did a groupbuy for the 4th batch of X210 motherboards, so you might be able to order a built laptop from LCDFans (facebook) or u/xueyao (reddit).

>found a local seller
>meet up with him the same day
>checked the laptop for defects
>bought it

max comfy.

What makes me mad is that it's not a new seller.
They've been selling factory refurbished thinkpads for 3 years.
Haven't responded to my email either.
Douches.

Where can I buy new trackpoints for my A485?

is a t510 a good trade for an x230t?

Attached: 59de711101ac2fdd52d0334a933bb2d9.png (1000x1000, 346K)

yes

is it fair? someones got a t510 on ebay and i want one kek

Batteries: my x230's one is dying. Should I go for an original 9 cell (about 50E on eu ebay) or for some chink knockoff (30+E)
Anyone knows better sites to shop batteries

wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nvidia-xrun

just get a chink one theyre not bad

9 cells make any difference?

yeah get a 9 cell its the biggest capacity

I was thinking of upgrading my old t60 and replacing a couple of parts but if i really wanna give it the full treatment i'd probably cost me about 400 bucks, which seems unreasonably expensive for a project that makes an obsolte laptop into a slightly less shitty one.

what do you guys think?

How are the Crucial nvme drives? They've got 1tb for very cheap but I'm pretty loyal to Samsung. Anyone use them? Would be going into a t480s

is the 1080p mod worth? should i jist get 1600x900?

Just upgraded my T400's ram with an old 4gb stick i had laying around from 2gb in one slot of the orginal config to 4+2gb=6gb atm.
I really don't care if it has some screen artifacts as long as I can bring it up to some parity with modern web browsing and simple Research multitasking standards.

Also I am an actual uniornic pajeet no need to panic at the hostname

Attached: Screenshot_2019-06-20_23-06-53.png (729x440, 163K)

1600x900 is just fine imo

where in the FUG do I find recycled computers I can pick through to refurb? I'm looking for a 220 or 230 and jewbook marketplace is full of people who think their 8 year old computer is worth three hundred dollars when it's missing keys, has cracks, has pressure spots on the screen, etc. I'd rather just grab one out of a recycling center and throw a new battery and whatever in it.

how do you guys get your machines? ebay? i hate that ebay sellers up the price and stick in a shitty used HDD and a windows installation like that has any value to me. also, which should I get, 20 or 30? Is the 30 more powerful to a degree that I should give up the keyboard of the 20? Also, should I ever consider buying the tablet version over the regular? I think it would be cool to have a tablet situation, but if they have shittier build quality or the hinge dies faster because it articulates more, I'm okay with passing on it.
