I usually buy a new flagship every 4 years or so, more if I can. I had the Samsung Note 4 at launch. Now I have the Samsung Note 9. Will hold off this dies, or no longer gets any security updates. I made the mistake of buying a carrier branded version, so no installing custom ROM.

That's almost a 5 year old phone. Android doesn't even have that.
The only thing I'll say is, check the battery % in settings, if it's below 80% you're going to see slowdowns. Best is to swap the battery.
