Is xfce the only sane alternative for a DE?
The rest are bloated, resource heavy or a fucking dependency mess. WM, while nice, cut it too short for many use cases.

I heavily despise gnome, gtk and such, but I can't get to like KDE. Even with all the improvements these last years it still feels sluggish and crashes from time to time

I really like Gnome as far as functionality and workflow goes, I just wish it wasn't so slow and resource heavy. Input lag on my desktop, just what I needed!
KDE drives me crazy with its frequent visual glitches, plus its inconsistent theming makes my inner aesthete cry.
Xfce does seem like the most sane option. Super snappy, literally never glitches out and it looks decent enough, if on the simple side.

Plasma is pretty feature rich. Gnome has literally nothing. Both are too heavy, and anything KDE brings their mother with the dependencies (kwallet for installing krita, ffs)

I think it's best illustrated with a simple comparison: right click on gnome desktop, then on KDE and compare what you see. Differences of that magnitude are all over the place.
