Do any of you fags know Chinese / Japanese?
Is it worth learning and where to start?
I basically want to be able to understand Chinese/Japanese datasheets and spec pages

oh just because we are tech guys we're supposed to be huge weebs?

>Is it worth learning
no lmao you fucking weeb. in asia you have to learn english to get anywhere decent

If you can read Chinese you can read Japanese. Just sign up for adult classes somewhere close to you

If you study a few hours every day, it will take you about as long as a pregnancy until you can read basic stuff, and years to become adept.
Whether this is worth reading chinksheets that are probably available in English is your decision.
If you enjoy learning new languages, it's certainly fun though, go for it.

>Is it worth learning
Japanese is too hard and complicated to learn. Not even working in Japan worth learning Japanese

>If you can read Chinese you can read Japanese.
lol no
some Japanese look like bastardized Chinese, but thats it

yeah you sure wants to learn jap to work kiddo

Also, until you become proficient in Japanese, you will learn about 2000 chinese characters.
There are about 10,000 of them, but only 2,000 get used in everyday speech.
Problem is, datasheets are most likely not everyday speech but contain very technical terms, which are often expressed on kanji not part of the 2000 that you learn.

Only worth it if you're into biotech or something.

a lot of computer spec sheets are in katakana from my experience, just spend a week or two on duolingo and you'll have that down. figuring out if they did some dumbshit stuff like (example i just made up) ヂスプレイ(display) or something, though, good luck.

はい、それはそうですけど
Nah bruh, Japanese is full of alternate readings and uncommon readings that fuck with you. Fuck that shit; just gotta grind.
More like 3k bruh. The ~2k is the official list adopted by the gubbment.

This. Kanji is was stolen from hanzi. You can get 99% of the meaning if you know hanzi

Learning the kanji/radicals might help quite a bit. The kana system is fairly simple since that's a modified brahmi script and you should be able to see similarities to English alphabet(not the written symbol, but the sound classification).

If you can learn the basics of kanji/radicals, you should be set, in theory.

おれさまは辞書に頼りたくないんですけど

Learn Japanese is more beneficial in my case as I can understand 70% Traditional Chinese
And it worth it, you basically get a key to 2nd or even 3rd STEM knownledge archive.

The dough is white

I dunno I'm illiterate. I can converse and have a rather large vocabulary but otherwise I can't read or write Japanese.
I go to a language exchange club a lot so I have lots of conversation practice/feedback.

>2000 Chinese characters
>2 0 0 0
holy fucking shit there is no way in hell i'll ever learn chinese

That's Japanese.
Chinese has more

There are only like 80-100 building blocks though and often they give you a hint to the reading or the meaning .. sometimes both.

>probably available in English is your decision.
If they where i wouldn't be thinking of going through the trouble
>If you enjoy learning new languages, it's certainly fun though, go for it.
No i don't like it at all :/
>Just sign up
>Talk to other people on very regular basis
nah, i'm good with whatever is available on the interents

mhm ok i think it's still out of my ability but i might be able to kinda manage it

Do not - I repeat - DO NOT DO THIS
They will spend literally months on the Kana alone. Something that can be mastered in a couple of days easily.

Just search Tofugu Hiragana and go through it
Once you're done with that search for Tofugu Katakana and go through it
After that, find a good kanji/vocab learning method you like. Most people use Anki, I personally feel like Anki is pure torture and completely demotivational. There are a lot of resources, I personally recommend WaniKani paired with keeping your own spreadsheet/anki mining deck of all the kanji/vocab you learn so you can study whenever.
At about level 10 on WaniKani you can start learning grammar from other resources. Not too long after that you'll begin to be able to slowly read and understand some basic Japanese in manga and video games. You can reach that point quickly and easily if you work diligently at it. The key is to find the learning method that's most enjoyable for you.

I tried learning Japanese several times, each time resulted in me dropping it because Anki makes me feel like a drone. Swapped to other more interactive, engaging methods and it completely changed Japanese into a fun hobby for me.

bump for interest

Jow Forums is an anime website so yes

>They will spend literally months on the Kana alone.
that's because they are paid by the lesson

i'm not stereotyping you or calling you a weeb, just giving my two cents about the situation so don't see this as a retard on the internet calling you a weeb blatantly. if you're wanting to learn japanese just because you've spent a lot of time watching anime, do know that it's the idea of how japan or its culture is in your mind scented with moe elements and most probably doesn't reflect the reality. if you still feel like doing it, go for it based on what's the best method for your learning skills but do consider and think why you want to learn it and what it'll bring you on the long run.

stay hydrated.

Look up DJT on /jp/, it's a permathread.

This thread is a microcosm representing the study of Japanese. You go in, ready to enrich your future business prospects as well as broaden your horizons, then a bunch of people give you terrible advice and bam suddenly you are gay.

Stay out of /jp/.

Wasn't that thread on /a/ before?

Just being able to read Katakana is useful for tech related stuff as those words are almost always derived from english any how. Read them out loud quickly then after a while it'll become obvious. For example ファイアウォール = firewall

mods didn't like it there (fair enough, it's not really anime-related) so it moved to Jow Forums because they already had a language learning thread, I think

This is an example of ateji (kanji used for their sound value alone) = omoshiroi = interesting (in english)

>Do any of you fags know Chinese / Japanese?
Yes JLPT4 japanese
>Is it worth learning
No, only if you have interest in japan stuff already, it's not a useful language in 2019, learn chinese instead
>where to start?
Jow Forumsdjt. download Anki and core2k and farm that shit.
>datasheets and spec pages
Yeah definitely learn chinese

Weeb shit aside, Japanese is a very interesting language and learning it is a great experience, I can highly recommend it
Fuck Chinese though

>Chinese
basiclally irrelevant. It may be the #1 spoken language but it's only really spoken in 1 country. Not worth learning unless you want to teach in that statist hellhole. I woulsn't touch a chink with a ten foot polish man.
>japanese
fun language to learn albeit one of the more difficult ones. If you learn it you will absolutely be called a fucking weeaboo (because you are one you fucking weeaboo).
There's a thriving industry for nip translation so if that's what you're up for, go for it.

I learned Japanese because I was sick of waiting for meme subs and having to remix raws because every nigger subgroup used some meme encodes.
Learn it how this user said. Also visit the actual fucking countries.

>일본어
ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

>N4
>knowing jap
pick one
you can pass that shit with half a year of learning

Started learning Japanese as a hobby one year ago. Kana is easy, only huge retards could spend more than two days learning it, kanji are passable too, even tho it will take a little bit more time. The main problem is the actual understanding part. Their vocabulary is crazy and it's VERY hard to memorize
Chinese is a meme, you'll forget everything if you ever stop learning it and you'll never be able to spell words in a proper way. Just don't

Attached: 1548193649647.png (1400x1000, 968K)

why would anyone use 6 gorillions marks and symbols to express the same what anyone else can do using ancient greek and latin derived characters of which is less than 3 dozens and they dont have to annually come up with new symbols for new things and concepts

realkana.com/

I don't know, why don't you ask why you had to steal numbers from the desert people?

If you feel interested, just go ahead and start learning. It's true Japanese is like a giant mountain to climb, but it's a very reasonable language at heart - you just have to accept you'll be studying kanji every day for a year or two at least. For this reason, write each one out as you learn it into a notebook and it'll stick a lot smoother.
I honestly feel ridiculous for going, "How do I learn Japanese? Is it even possible?" for months on end, when it's really just sitting down and grinding for a few hours a day until it begins to make sense. Like lifting weights, you don't have to be "skilled', you just need consistency.
I've been using this site lots, having all of Tae Kim on one page is a godsend.

Konichuwa, watashiwa Dave-kun, yoroshku onigaishimus. Kimi wa o chin chin ski? Watashi o chin chin sughoi, watashi daiski oppai bitch, umai.

just like literally anyone on the planet, except 2020 superpower i guess

kana looks aesthetically more pleasing than latin characters

Boku no manko tabetai?

Yellow pussy does taste better if you know what they're moaning.
I love it when they call me onnichan.

Hai hai.

Is it weird to tell my nip gf "daijobu" when I try to do anal with her? She hasn't done it before and I'm just thinking maybe I can put her mind at ease by using some comforting phrase from her language?

Best way to do it user is in the spooning position and then during a fast and furious phase "accidently" slip it out and into the pooper. Depending on how receptive she is you can keep going just slower, but this should get her in the mood. If she doesn't want you can play it off as a traffic accident.
Also if it goes all the way in with ease first time then the bitch has done it before or trains in her own time and you should either file a claim on that hole or dump her withholding ass.

Thanks

No, you fucking can't. Signing up for a good class is a great idea, when I learned Chinese, I was totally satisfied with the pace, and the classes were fun. The Japanese class I signed up for was utter garbage, though.

お前らに出来ないよ、諦めろ

>Japanese datasheets and spec pages
Japanese is very helpful for reading untranslated loli specs and datasheets.

>Something that can be mastered in a couple of days easily.
Not the cursive forms. You actually need to read kana to master it.

Short of taking classes which is how I learned, best I can say is pick up some introductory books and start studying … which is how I taught myself to read Hangul (Korean,) Cyrillic, and Arabic. Though those are just simple alphabets like with English. Japanese is a syllabary plus a whole fuckton of kanji (Chinese) characters which ironically make the language easier to read.

And doesn't hurt to follow pop music/entertainment too. Reading all those pop idol names is how I memorized a lot of Kanji.

i learned hangul trough a phone app, but hangul is much easier than jap or chink. still, i guess you could give one of those meme learning apps a try.

Good post.

Learning Chinese is fun and kind of a long term project. It's deep as hell and if you like learning for the sake of learning, you won't run out of new stuff to learn or memorize for a long while.

It really takes a lot of dedication though. I've been fucking around with it and studying on and off for a few years and still can't communicate with it.

The best way is always to just move there.

chinese itself is bastardized chinese these days

People said it took them a single afternoon to learn katakana/hiragana. It took me 2 days.

there are 2 kind of hanzi.
traditional and simplified.
traditional is old style and similar to japanese.
simplified is new style and only used in mainland.
