why the sarcasm? it only sends verification codes to known devices that are yours.

you can only disable find my iphone from the phone itself, you have to bring it in to a repair shop, preferably ipad rehab.

What's the point of 2 factor authentication if it's really just 1 factor?
Fortunately, it wasn't enabled so i just erased the phone. There is no way they will be able to turn it on anyway. It's completely thrashed

it's still two factor:
>something you know
your password
>something you own
a device that's logged into your icloud account (can be ipads, iphones, macs, ipod touches)

they could still bring the device to a repair shop but i doubt they'll do that, you're probably just going to get a new phone.

Jow Forums problems.

It's so annoying if you don't own another idevice or a mac. My GF was unable to reset her 2 FA without it. What's wrong with sending SMS like everyone else? They even lock you in to their walled garden for 2FA baka

I don't trust insurance companies and you shouldn't either

icloud allows sms two factor.
OP is literally being angry because apple designed a service that just works even if he broke his shitty phone, without a hassle.

dude what?
if the phone is totaled and can't even be turned on, how do you expect to wipe it?

op meant display

the second it were to come online such as someone repaired it, it will get wiped.

this
Also, it's the insurance company demanding it. Once they get the phone, they will see it's not worth repairing. I had to use pliers to get sim card out because it's bend and both front and back glass is destroyed

But it's sending the code to the device doing the login. How does that improve security?

Wow, the great "ecosystem" doesn't have a useful and easy to use tool like this? Who would've guessed?

You can make it send SMS by clicking the "Didn't get a verification code" link.
Then you'll still, obviously, need a second device that can actually receive those.

>Implying Apple gives its customers ANY control over their devices
You can't even install selfsigned application certificates. That's right. You can't even trust yourself.
That would allow people to install applications that are not allowed on the Apple controlled app store, oh god!

because it's two factor. it knows your device is a known trusted device (on an operating system level), but it does not know the new login from the browser is a trusted browser. it's sending your trusted devices a code.

you can but it'll only work for two days.

7, actually. But no, it's not selfsigned - you have to get apple to sign it. You can't trust your own identity - you can only get apple to sign your certificate, and since your device trusts apple, that allows the certificate to be installed.
You can't just use openssl, generate some certificate for 2 years and install that and sign your applications with that.

Honestly, if iOS had sideloading, I'd maybe even get an iPhone. With the undocumented APIs you can't use on the app store, you might actually be able to create useful applications that are currently not possible on iOS. Like KDE Connect or a proper Ad-Blocker.

cant you brick your device some more?
>push pebble into connector
>swipe it with big magnet
>microwave it

Jesus fucking Christ...

No need. If they somehow manage to get it running, which i doubt, it will erase itself the first time it connects to the internet. I can't imagine the cost of repairing it is less than a payout considering the phone is close to 2 years old
I think you also need a dev account for this which is 99$/year

No, you can use the normal apple ID for this, but then you can only get those 7 day certs.

If you pay $100 / year, you can sign for up to one year. But you can't use those for distribution, if you do, apple immediately revokes your certificate.

But the SMS goes to the very iPhone that you are trying to unlock
