Is plastidip alright for thonkpads?

>

Got a librebooted x200 for $400.

Can someone help me get a good deal on an x220?

Should be ok if you got a ssd in it and everything seems to be fine.

W530 with fumo frens!

I saw one go the other day for $150 - I should have bought it...
Just get an x200.

I am having a very hard time finding anything decent on ebay.. It's all for parts, poor condition, or $400+

E580 masterrace!

I have an x200 in good condition for sale on eBay for $50. I'm fairly certain that there is nothing wrong with it, but I list things for parts if I can't be assed to test them thoroughly.

>paying that much for an 11yo laptop
Freetards are one of a kind.

How much should I pay for a T540p with 4700mq 8gb RAM full HD display with a backlit keyboard state is seller refurbished?

I just want an all around good laptop that i can mess around with on Linux, any suggestions bros

hey bros, looking at a T460
its 450 canadian shekels

Could one of y'all fine folks answer my question?

>T540p
trash tier thinkpad it has the numpad for no reason

X220 hands down, supports basically every distro out of the box, is shit cheap, has decent performance, has great hardware and can be Corebooted

I'll look into it, ty

In what way is it trash, I could don't mind it being huge.

That's a ripoff, buy a used ThinkPad T460 and put your own SSD in it

The only other models I'd suggest are the X200 if you want to install Libreboot and want "muh freedums" without having to disassemble the machine, just don't expect it to be usable in current year

kk thanks desu

Not that user but for me the trackpoint in xx40 series is just useless. But other than that they should be fine. Not sure how much you should pay though.

why can by x230t barely run CS:S when it runs flawlessly on my x220 with mac os. Is it just bad on linux?

Still using T440 with geforce720m for gaming.

Excuse my retardation but where and how would one go and upgrade a t60 into a t70?

If you got ram and HDDs already look for the bare bones ones that go for $50. Got my x230 like that for 55CAD and even scored a model with an IPS screen. Battery is your only thing you need to pay a bit for but it's still cheaper than the 150+

Did you replace the default cpu with i7-4702MQ . If so was it worth ?

>i7-4702MQ
Not yet but I am thinking about the upgrade.

So uh.. I just had my W540 get destroyed. Dropped it, it fell on the battery compartment and the whole thing is shot. Won't even turn on with the battery removed. What's a good replacement option if I want something with a little more power?

You could go for a P50 or a newer one if budget is not a constraint.

I ordered the new x1c 7th gen with the 4k screen today, should I come back and post pics when it arrives or nah

>1366x768
Don't do it, just don't.

What do you all think about the R61?
Got It for 90€, 2gb RAM and Core 2 dúo, winxp and 80% battery Life, is It good?

It's not a good deal for a machine that old but if all you want to do is shitpost on 4chins, kode and play touhou then it'll be fine.

I guess what I'd be looking for is something that accepts 2 hard drives like the 540 did, but maybe with slightly better specs. Are there any HP/Dell ones that do that?

Zbook G2/G3, or their Dell Precision equivalents, but I don't know shit about those.

is he mentally ill?

t410s, randomly shut downs, not hot, does it in linux or windows. any ideas?

he's just a weak willed weak minded and weak bodied man

She's a cutie UwU

G2 prices are attractive compared to equivalent thinkpads.
But how are they over all?

Compared to a Thinkpad, they have slightly worse keyboards, and that's about it, iirc.

So I shouldn't be worrying about bad quality builds like regular HP laptops and such? Thanks user

is t61 librebootable? also best linux distro for it?

I just threw my t60 to the ground(because i'm drunk fight me) and the dvd-drive flew across the room but the pad seems to be fine.
Not saying that it's ok to throw your laptop around but these things aren't THAT fragile you know.

Note, free/libre is almost an antonym to free/gratis

no

in 2019 arch is the best linux distro unless you need something unusually stable for very serious work which most anons do not. even for beginners arch is the best distro nowadays, using an aur manager like yay is much easier than installing through other means. anybody can follow a beginners guide to install and have a system in a few hours.

Does anyone have any experience with the X1 Extreme?

I’ll keep the long and tragic backstory short, but I need something for postgrad/traveling. I’m a writer, not a programmer, so the feel of the laptop is slightly more important than bulk typing tasks, though obviously I want both. I want something that looks normal, has a quality keyboard, and is as light and quiet possible with as big a battery as possible.
I was originally looking at stuff like the gs65, y740, even razer, but they all seem to suffer from horrible build quality and other issues, and if I buy another razer product I will have truly lost my mind. I eventually was looking at the XPS, but that battery looks pathetic, and it doesn’t quite have that feel I’m looking for. That’s when I started looking at thinkpads, since if they have a 24/7 thread obviously something about them is pleasing, although I’m not sure if that only applies to historical ones.
All of my ideas have a discrete gpu. I used to be a big gamer, not anymore. I can’t decide whether that’s because the industry sucks or I grew up, but I’d still like the option, I think. Plus, there’s a bunch of other potential utility. If I’m better off dropping this fantasy for a better laptop, tell me that too.

what do you actually need the computing power for because honestly almost nobody really needs it, if you are actually traveling and using it on the go you are best served getting the lightest computer possible and not a mobile workstation. if you are actually doing computing as part of your degree you shouldn't be using a mobile workstation anyways and should have access to a real computer or cluster.

Oh, I forgot: there’s no budget, although my inner jews like spending as little as possible.

Any recommendations then? I don’t truly need the processing power for anything in particular, I just want something that works. I’d get a Mac if their keyboards weren’t the most horrible things I have ever touched.

I want to fall for the mouse meme. What's a decent simple cheap-ish wireless mouse for my T420? I don't want it to be "ergonomic", I'm falling for one meme at a time.
>Hearts of Iron IV works on Gentoo but it's shit without a mouse

probably the x1c or the t490s or the x395

The only mouse brand that has never let me down is Logitech. You could also look at Zowie or similar, but it’s a step down. Or you could just buy the amazon mouse if you really want something cheap.

zowie is better than logitech but they have fewer features and buttons

wanted a thinkpad for years after browsing Jow Forums for so long, finally my job threw away over 20 of these fuckers and I can honestly say, I don't get the fucking hype.
Using a P52s right now and yeah, it's okay, but I can honestly say I enjoy the 2017 macbook pro they threw out a lot more. dual booting Arch on my MacBook is great

I’ll take a look at them, thanks user. I think you’re right about not trying to sacrifice things I want for unnecessary power.

anyone got experience removing wwan wl? when i used phoenix tools i got a x32_bios-region file where most others i see get x64s. i try reflashing with it and i cant get a boot (fan whirrs and power light turns on for a quarter of a second). thanks in advance.

hewwo fellow thinkers! who's taken their daily dose of estrogen today? :3

What's up people of Jow Forums.

I just had an Acer Aspire shit the bed on me and they want $900 US dollars to replace the shitty motherboard when the whole thing was $600 to begin with.

Need a new laptop. I'm interested in something really well-built that won't randomly fucking die on me like some Acer piece of shit, and I don't need very high specs. I'll be building a gaming desktop, so this laptop will exist as browser/word processor/netflix/porn machine that I can take anywhere and use for law school in case my desktop randomly crashes in finals week. Hopefully it'll handle that for 4-5 years of use.

Is there anything in the sub-$500 range, or am I doomed to dish out more?

t430/420.

forgot to mention that i have a t430.

kill yourself human garbage

Oh look a corporate shill

I used vinyl as a cover to put stickers on cover might wanna try that

I'd like something new if possible

Question:
I want to update my i7 3620m to an i7 3820qm, but I use a dock and somewhere I read that the dock does not support a 4-core processor, what can I do it?

PW: I use a 90 watt charger, will I have to change it too?

>tfw just finished installing an IPS screen in my X220
Holy shit I don't know how people lived without these. I grew up with CRTs and I still don't wanna go back

nah

I kind of want one of these things with Libreboot, but isn't compiling absolute hell on older processors?

I mean you can always throw a new cpu and some pretty quick memory in there. and ssd. you have usb3 with t430. i would do your own research and then come back with questions. people get different thinkpads for different reasons. questions to ask yourself when researching:
do i want to upgrade memory or cpu later.
are parts readily available
how much do i want to spend on it
how is the used market for it
How much do i value quality over price

hey guys I'm bored. post cinebench scores of your thinkpads.

Attached: cbr15.png (1920x1080, 581K)

I cant think of something less interesting than benchmarking a bunch of standardized hardware

I couldn't agree more, but it's a good tool to check, if what you are doing actually does anything.

desktop:
4790K 955 points 4.7Ghz
4790k 919 points 4.6Ghz
T440p:
4800MQ 663 points undervolted and max tdp limit
4800MQ 551 points first boot after I changed the cpu
4330M 332 points the cpu that I had in the laptop

Attached: Unbenannt.jpg (381x514, 110K)

Why bother

Attached: .png (2560x1440, 1.14M)

is the x230t worthwhile these days? i use a t420 as my daily driver and it's solid but the wacom digitizer is appealing to me. open to other business laptops with digitizers as well if anyone has suggestions

I have a budget of 150$
I need a small laptop capable of only doing web browsing
What should I get?

Thoughts on the E495?

Thinking of ordering one with the Ryzen 5 3500U and 16 GB of ram.

$644 with a 14"1080p IPS display.

Gonna use it for law school and general web browsing/porn watching. Yay or nay?

what thinkpad? all of mine work fine on docks, but yeah 90 watt and above are more ideal as 65w does not have enough power to run all the ports.

What’s the best deal for an X1C?

Is it true I can regrow my foreskin by attaching some device posted about in this thread? What's it called?

Is that a good idea to buy used ThinkPad for studying? I have $550 and want use laptop to do some document work, watch films, surfing and may be a bit of gaming (Brawlhalla, osu!, Dota2). Is that possible to buy laptop with support of DXVK? I am also planning to run it with Arch. Currently, I choose between T440s, T520, W541(if I could find extra $160).

found a x230 ips, 8gb ram, and 120gb ssd for $265. is it a ripoff?

You would have to find a used board somewhere else.
51nb no longer produces the T70 motherboard unfortunately.

no one cares about the new models, use the macbook, no one cares

I saw someone else use it on theirs. Look good initially but started coming off after a month or two.

Kinda. It would have to be in very good condition.

Hello Jow Forums

Bought a thinkpad x1 yoga. I wonder if I should install LTSC in this. It already has legal Win10 Pro in it. It was freshly reformatted since the store I bought this from sells used laptops.

Think I can practice drawing with this during my free times?

Attached: 20190702_164123.jpg (2880x2160, 2.07M)

> Think I can practice drawing with this during my free times?

no

yeah theyre good for drawing, ltsc will definitely be good to put on there. I'd recommend manga studio if you dont mind pirating
