It did actually, back in the 90s when it looked like a RISC cpu would eventually replace x86 the NT kernel ran on the lot of them. ARM, MIPS, PowerPC. Linux was written to run on a specific x86 CPU originally and therefore was probably a bollock ache to convert it to run on any other platforms.
