What's important is to have security patches and everything kinda polished really

It's worse when you are at mercy of updates to newer versions that have all sorts of issues or go unmaintained constantly. Or worse, you could have an iPhone, get all of those nice updates and then suddenly your phone goes slower and hotter and slower and hotter and slower until you have to buy another one because you can't even go back to what was working.

Companies usually have hundreds of models to support not 10 like Apple, and if they use a custom skin, they have to update it too. Things are getting a bit better with Treble, Android One and the new Google Play security updates tho. And it's not planned obsolescence like Apple shit because you phone never gets slower with updates (or the lack of), and apps support ancient API versions, most going back to KitKat and some modern ones, Lollipop.
