How much $ would it cost to make a dating app for iOS and Android?
We are talking about dating app done properly, not using tindergram templates or some shit drag and drop solutions.
I checked some basic quotes for proper software houses in Poland and Russia and it's apparently $16k (!!!).
How much would it cost to outsource the writing to some freelancers? Not talking about India, more like Eastern Europe or South America. Would it be significantly cheaper?
I'm in eastern europe and I would't even do flappy bird for 3k, let alone an app with a dedicated server infrastructure, web services, location tracking, internal messaging, account management, email sending, some sort of admin panel for banning users, etc The list is endless, 16k is a steal

Cheaping out on an app will get you a shitty app. No exceptions. There are so many bad dating apps out there that yours won't stand out. My advice to you if you're trying to start a dating service where you match people up, just use email or facebook messages or whatever. Have people send you their profiles and then update it on a website manually, pick out matches and email them to people on a personal basis. This will work up to a few hundred users, then if you can get them to give you some money you'll be able to fund development of an actual app. If you can't get them to give you money then you have no business running a dating service.
If you're only in it so you can creep on people's nudes, my advice would be to become a phone repairman.

Hmm, you definitely changed my perspective, I guess I will have to think about it, write a proper business plan, do some mockups and then look for some sort of government grants, EU Grants and partnerships... if I could get like $10,000 in funding, I could cover the rest myself.
Is it even realistic to learn to code and make it myself in 6 months or so? I did a bit of JavaScript so it is safe to say that my skills are non-existent...

You're not just making an app, it's a service. If you want to do it properly while outsourcing all the work you're going to have to pay much more than 16k. You could obviously send that 16k to india and get a terrible app you had little input in to begin with, but do not expect to make any of that money back.

Not realistic if you want a good product
You need to delegate that shit to people with knowledge already
Caleb Sullivan
>$3000 kek
Zachary Ortiz
>I could cover the rest myself great. >Is it even realistic to learn to code and make it myself in 6 months or so absolutely. you should start right now. why waste time?

sauce of this onions video?
Oliver Gonzalez
no idea, found this pic on fb
well, you know, I'm a bit worried that writing an app will be absolutely overwhelming. And the app itself will be quite complex.

Actually, a dating app would not be so hard to write. You basically just need to make a gui for database queries. The REAL hard part about making a dating app is figuring out how to keep bots and scammers away without turning away legitimate users.
as for fighting bots and scammers, my gf is unemployed so she will sit on her ass and purge fuckers day in and day out xD
Brody Ross
>self taught programmer >girlfriend is unemployed
are you the 19yo polish guy who posted that other programming thread yesterday? kek
Isaac Campbell
Nah, this is the first time I'm here. My partner gave birth couple months ago so she is not looking for any work at the present time
Alexander Gutierrez
A competent web programmer could make it in Flutter for half the price using a single code base for both iOS and Android
Julian Nguyen
kek btfo pajeet. you don't even know the specifications. tinder alone probably cost around 75k at it's first release and we most likely aren't talking about a clone here - which means that OP won't only invest in programmers but also in designers and other professionals.
also >competent and >web programmer is an oxymoron.
Brody Jones
Thanks
Landon Ramirez
wait, wut? 75k? For shit like tinder?! The front-end of the app is simplistic/minimalistic as fuck... is it the backend and database that costed so much?
lol dude... have you ever written professional software or have you ever worked on professional software within a professional corporate environment? 75k is literally nothing and pretty realistic for -the first version- that hit the market.
Dylan Thompson
okay, but how do you split the costs? 30% on servers and software; 70% on 3-4 months worth of wages for team of five specialists?
I just want to understand the scale of the problem I was to tackle myself and what is the amount of financial resources I need to have for all of the bits and pieces. I really have no idea what I'm going against so any info on the scale, costs and points of interest would be much appreciated
Chase Lee
well... if you really want to have a beginner's glimpse into software dev i recommend "don't hire a software developer until you read this book" by k.n. kukoyi. it's also available on audible (if you prefer audio books - length is around 12 hours). kukoyi really wrote an easily understandable book for people like you who are literally newbies. i can't break the software creation process all down to you in one post because it wouldn't be sufficient enough but the book should give you a good overall overview of what you'll have to do and why.
Juan Ross
thank you kindly, I will definitely read it in that case! After that I hope to come here with some more accurate questions
well i figured you aren't trolling and you don't seem to be a dumb nigger faggot so i thought i would give you a starting point.
Daniel Edwards
Tinder was created by developers. It did not cost them anything aside from living expenses. As a non-developer, however, you cannot build anything like Tinder for $75k. A single competent iOS developer goes for, what, $300k/yr? You won't even be able to find competent developers, since they all work for someone already. And if you're not a developer you will definitely not be able to tell good ones from bad ones.
Robert White
75k for the very first version that hits the market (minimum viable product) is reasonable imo. (i actually even added 25k for good measure kek)
Asher Bennett
If you want a price break down the cost an hour and development hours and what about the service agreement? Hours spent to further development?
16k seems pretty cheap.
Josiah Gomez
You could learn enough to start making an app in 6 months sure, but it definitely won't be high quality. Leave some contact info and I can hear you out though.
Wyatt Diaz
>lol dude... have you ever written professional software or have you ever worked on professional software within a professional corporate environment? 75k is literally nothing and pretty realistic for -the first version- that hit the market. just so you know, most billion dollar mobile apps like Snapchat, WhatsApp, Instagram were developed in dorm rooms or as side projects for no money
Angel Phillips
desu, even if I will do it low quality, I bet that hiring freelancer to polish it will be cheaper than contracting him to do it from scratch
pm me at @_wiaczo_ I don't use this insta account but I regulary check it
Nathaniel Lewis
just so you know i actually develop professional software for european "fortune 500" companies. my hourly rate is 120€. i don't care what people do in their dorm rooms. for every dorm room app that succeeds there probably have been 100 or maybe even more (i'm pulling those numbers directly out of my arse) who failed.
