CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming >R3 2200G - Light 30-60fps gaming(dGPU optional). >R5 2600 - Good 60fps+ gaming CPU; great value >R5 3600 - midrange; good for all but the absolute highest end GPUs >R9 3900X/3950X - High end; highest FPS
>Intel CPUs are now defunct. Even used i7 workstations are no longer worthwhile due to vulnerabilities and related performance regression
RAM: >Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks is the only recommendation for a typical dual channel CPU >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 minimum >AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
Graphics cards based on current pricing: 1080p >RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost >GTX 1660 - higher fps or for more demanding games >RX 5700 - high framerates (requires complementary CPU and monitor) 1440p >RX 5700 - 75-100fps+ in most games >RX 5700 XT - Higher framerates >2080ti - Highest possible frames, but poor value 2160p (4K) >5700 XT Overclocked - budget option >RTX 2080Ti - best for 4K but expensive OpenGL on Windows >Nvidia
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING imgur.com/a/RTbKAxD >AM4 VRM listing: imgur.com/a/U6QXBbh >Yes, adaptive sync (freesync) is important >A 256GB+ SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor >NVMe do not give faster boot/load times than a fast SATA SSD >"Bottleneck checker" sites don't work >Don't use Speccy
I'm still gonna wait a bit for a little more info on how the new Ryzen 3000's would perform on my old Crosshair VI Hero that I still have a 1700X in. Also for economical reasons.
for the love of god do not buy gigabyte boards. made the mistake of picking one up because it was convenient and cheap, but its absolute dogshit. the software/bios/updates are garbage and you end up with more problems then what you started with. halfway to throwing this board in the bin.
Henry Foster
Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. Best on the market unless you go full retard on liquid metal.
Ethan Jones
Get a freezer 33. Get an ADATA SU800. Avoid cheap corsair PSUs, get a Seasonic or EVGA G3 PSU.
So, what are the max ~150$ x470 or b450 with good VRM and flashable BIOS without CPU I can buy? The B450 Gaming pro carbon ac and the B450 Tomahawk? Any other?
ok bros since i'm poor for a x570 MB, i'm going with x470, which brand ? (I'm not going to do OC heavy)- 3700k 16gb 3200 CL16
Matthew Edwards
>cherrypicked benchmarks from both sides This truly is the sound of Parity.
I sincerely hope Intel gets Sunny Cove 10nm running. I'd pay good money to see the intel shills beg 9900K owners to buy a lower clocked 10nm part that BTFO's any of the 9th gen parts.
Ayden Nguyen
>actually posting the fake benchmarks from week ago ouch I get this is a golden time to troll but I hope nobody actually falls for this.
Jaxon Phillips
>AMD title >using 720 fucking p in benchmarks in the current year
I'm loving Ryzen 3000, but this is pathetic
Caleb Reed
so all the new tech aside, AMDs anti lag stuff actually seems to work. wouldn't have expected that at all. And it works for "all newer GPUs and APUs", whatever that means. Definetly does on polaris, not sure for tonga and hawaii
What mobo to pair with a 3700x, there's so many options and I'm overwhelmed I don't need a second gpu slot, four ram slots might be preferable over two, onboard audio should be not garbage but doesn't have to be stellar, some expansion slots for m2 drives down the line could be preferable, I'm going to be using 3200 mhz ram. Good bios options and software are another plus, I have no clue which brand has an edge here
The MSI Gaming plus and MSI Tomahawk were two I was looking at
Jason Carter
Need new Mobo/RAM/CPU. Got £600 budget. Playing on 144hz 1440p monitor. Already have a GTX1080 graphics card. Any advice?
Already sold out for months to come. Should have camped in front of a computer store. Now you just better wait until the Ryzen 4xxx series hits the market and try snatching one at launch.
does a 3600 really need a better cooler than that on a 144hz potentially going 240. Don't really need to skimp out that massively to save a couple bucks
Hudson Kelly
>genuinely >seriously >unironcally >suggesting 5700xt over 2070S for 1440p high framerates Fuck you
Julian Hall
>Vulkan >literally developed by AMD >World War Z >an AMD sponsored game

Other than the 2 on tech power up, are there any X570 motherboard reviews out yet?
Jose Reyes
>oy gevalt, how could you possibly recommend something cheaper with similar performance!? it's anutha shoah
The 5700XT actually looks pretty good. Average fps is the same as a 2070 but with significantly better frame times in all but one game which is probably due to bugged drivers. Power consumption matches the 2070. Only problem is AMD's blower is garbage. Might be worth considering if the board partners build decent coolers for it.
Nicholas Jackson
Except it has both 720p and 1080p
Charles Mitchell
This is all I see now a days. People arguing over a 10fps difference and its all way higher than playable.
Any 3700X/3900X X370 tests/working confirmation yet?
Jason Price
Its not remotely similar. 2070s gets on average +10fps higher than the XT, and the XT is only a msrginal improvement over the 5700 in general. If you recommend the 5700 for 1440p 60fps, its fucking retarded to recommend the 5700xt for high framerate. If you want 90-120 fps in modern games you need a 2070s, 2080, or 1080 ti.
