I used it for about 2 hours and decided I didn't like it. don't know if it's nostalgia but debian before ian died was so much better. I switched to venom linux and so far it's a nice little distro

I have several machines to upgrade/install and my main desktop is probably going to be last or second-to-last desu

Yes i just did.

don't upgrade your tools in the middle of a project development

wait until it is finished then you do it

It's not in development, buster stable was released yesterday.

Nice concern shill meme.

Too bad Ian stepped away from debian for over half a decade before he passed.

I'm already running Pop! OS, which has newer packages and drivers than buster. Plus it's not named after a faggy Disney character.

i fucking did. it werks flawlessly

what? just saying after 7 it just didn't feel right anymore imo
nice plasma desktop

do i need to change my apt sources or just upgrade? Have been using sid on everything but my server

It depends on what your current apt sources.list is. I use the following for example:

deb deb.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb-src deb.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free

deb deb.debian.org/debian stable-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src deb.debian.org/debian stable-updates main contrib non-free

deb deb.debian.org/debian-security stable/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src deb.debian.org/debian-security stable/updates main contrib non-free

deb deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib non-free
deb-src deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib non-free

Basically just set everything to stable and you'll automatically upgrade to the new stable whenever it comes out. Backports you need to specify the release though, like I've done above.

ill try upgrade with my current one and if it doesn't upgrade to 10 ill take your list

Is buster-backports even up yet? it doesn't show up on the webpage.

also if you're using deb.debian.org, why on earth are you using http instead of https? you don't even have to install that apt-transport thing now, apt will do TLS natively.

except download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/dists/

stretch is the last one

just leave it as it is: buster-backports

>Is buster-backports even up yet?
I don't know, I just preemptively changed it so I don't have to do so later.
>why on earth are you using http instead of https
I copied the sources.list from the wiki (wiki.debian.org/SourcesList) and didn't bother to change it.

mine
deb deb.debian.org/debian/ stable non-free contrib main
deb deb.debian.org/debian/ stable-updates non-free contrib main
deb deb.debian.org/debian-security/ stable/updates non-free contrib main
deb dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/ stable main
deb deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-backports non-free contrib main
deb deb.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
# deb download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/ stretch contrib

I just use Ubuntu LTS. I don't really see any advantage in using debian.

ok

good talk

Ethernet will not autoconfigure or connect. So back to Mint.
Pretty pissed about it.

You probably have a network card that requires nonfree firmware. You can download an iso that includes these nonfree packages directly from debian.org or you can download the packages and put them inside a directory named 'firmware' on a USB stick.

>what? just saying after 7 it just didn't feel right anymore imo

systemd

>disco
Hey at least it's not blackariel like Debian will do when they run out of toy story characters

ok

I did that, no clue how to update driver a la device manager intuitive approach.
Looked up youTube and the Debbie site.
Frigging communication breakdown.
I do not speak C3PO, and tech twats either cannot break shit down like Carl Sagan, or...
that have fucked up accents, shitty Molly club music, and or go at Adderall speed in their vids.
Liked Debian 7, 8, and 9... This shit is a new obstacle.
Thank You though, you're good people.

idk how
pic rel is me atm

what does 10 offer thats better than 9, and would i even benefit from this

what rice is this?

Yep, no problems what-so-ever so far.

No, because my existing Debian installation works just fine.

I do not use distro made by trannies

>before he passed
What a nice way to say killed himself

Why should I care about a new version if the existing version works fine and I probably won't notice any changes, and there's also the possibility that something might break?

This. Also friendly reminder that any of the Debian-based distros can do everything Debian does but better.

ok

No, I upgraded to Bullseye. Not much of an upgrade though, only like 10 packages changed.

nah im not risking breakage on my projects. I'll be using 9 until EOL

Only have some mild scaling issues because 1080p @ 14" and there's a weird grub bug.

It is actually real good so sticking to it is a good idea.

at least you can use grub-mkconfig until it's fixed

>but better

on it, my internet is slow

i upgraded to ubuntu

>the logo is a pube

a side question
i did upgrade stable from 9 to 10
but i'd also like to completely remove all the themes, gnome extensions etc. to have a bare fresh debian stable.
I did install many shit over the years. Is there an easy way to do this?
delete .themes and thats it?
im on gnome

Raspian Buster (10) uses 29 MB more RAM than Raspian Jessie (8). Maybe it's an coincidence?

You should have done a clean install. Get several drives into your machine, a current low end Thinkpad that's larger can house an ssd, nvme, hdd at the same time.

ramlets btfo

How the hell do I add users in debian 10? both the command useradd and usermod could not be found.

Attached: wtf.jpg (202x250, 7K)

are you using su, rather than sudo? they changed from the shadow su to the util-linux su in buster, and one thing the latter does is not set the path properly. If ordinary commands that should be there are getting "not found" errors, that's what I'd suspect. Who the fuck knows why they did this or why the util-linux people thought it important.

Workarounds right at the top of this page:
wiki.debian.org/NewInBuster

dumbest thing ever. "su -" works though.
thanks

Sure I did

I was disappointed that it was using kernel 4.19

That's current LTS. welcome to stable.

in not too long buster-backports will be up and current kernels will probably be one of the first things in it.

t. a NEET. every programmers knows you don't update your dev machine
