Version 1 user here. It's still great. All my pirated epubs display flawlessly plus good battery life. Standsby for weeks. The ui is a bit slow, but its eink so it can be forgiven.

One company has a monopoly on the screen tech and charges out the ass, but for some reason Chinese companies don't seem to have a cost effective ripoff industry for e-readers yet

I have the H20 1, and I can go up to 32GB. The Version 2 doesn't have a micro SD card slot.

I have the standard Kindle Reader (2016). Plain and simple.

You cna go higher but it doesn't like it. I can use a 64 gig card, but it causes some problems.

No issues with the 32 GB micro SD. At least on mine. But realistically, if you're using it for just text, 16GB should be plenty.

It doesn't. The H20 v1 is the best e-ink reader you can get with expandable storage.

But with the version 2 you can read inside the pool.

My Kobo Forma makes me erect and the pricing is good within Canada. 8" screen, weight balanced under hand, 32gb, under 200g.

BOOX's are awesome but they're more for textbooks than books. Pretty heavy to use one-handed. Wouldn't mind one but I think an ipad is a more reasonable complement to my current setup

I'm kind of salty that e-readers with sd cards that are good don't really exist because I want to load and unload my chinese cartoon porn.

Any of the Kobos that allow you to install okreader (free/libre OS). The cheapest one is the Kobo Touch, which is made for womanlets but only costs $30 used. The best is the Aura edition 1, which is like $70 used. If you like physical buttons, there's some old Sony ones that can be flashed with a freer OS if I recall.

Let me know when I can get a dedicated epaper monitor with display port inputs that.

Also it's a dumb device that can stay powered on a 9v battery for a month not some smart device that needs a processor and clock running in the backround.

this is actually true. i had a fine of 50$ for returning a water-damaged book in 2008, and they wouldn't let me check any book out until i paid it. So I just waited it out, and alas in 2015 they modernized something and the fine just dissapeared.

Personally not using my kobo much desu, too small for my university/gentoomen books. Got an oldass 10 inch tablet that I use for those. Until affordable ereaders get released at a decent size I think this would be the Jow Forums solution

It sports the best panel they use in the whole kindle family of products and 2gm of memory are enough for 200 books and 20 mangas

For Kindle just convert epub to mobi with Calibre then copy via USB/wifi

Kobo with okreader as software

Kobo brand. Kobo Glo HD (old model) here, and it's based af. So glad I didn't fall for the Kindle meme. Kobo is literally the hands down best. The hardware isn't locked down and it's easy to mod it to boot KOReader with.

That camera autofocus is hilarious.

Got a Kobo Clara HD (6")

Great for epubs, decent for manga, a bit small for pdfs, especially if they're technical books, but you can zoom if you want to.

Decent trade-off since it fits in my pocket.

There's only one book out of my entire collection it has struggled with, but that's a 200mb car maintenenance pdf with full ocr and lots of pictures.

I accidentally brought a book out through those alarm gates, and I got taken away by security, they held me back from my class to write up an official report on the case, and they took away my right to borrow books for a month. Sony prs 505. It's dirt cheap, battery lasts practically forever, has an SD card slot, can flash PRS+ which makes it much more useable such as having folders and a book history.

I wish amazon would do a refresh of the 1st generation kindle, it legit was one of the most aesthetic e-readers. I also kind of miss having physical page turning buttons. The oasis having physical buttons is cool and all but $300 for an ereader is pretty retarded.

its because the chinese don't fucking read. there aren't chinese e-readers because there isn't a market for them in china. the chinese do not have a culture that values intellectual pursuits or knowledge unless its directly applicable to tangible gain, and also because they don't value books for the same reason western cultures do. the book is not valued for its publication, a book is valued for its physical state, the immediate contained knowledge in the language its written in, which is why they have an obsession with translating things into chinese but there is pretty much nothing written in chinese to be translated to other languages despite there being 2 billion speakers

the purpose of a chinese library is a collection of other cultures' works translated into chinaman readable form so they can say that they don't have to learn other languages. thats as far as i can tell the only reason libraries exist in china
