Meet the new member of the family. X61s fucking cute. I know my desk is a mess btw.

How do you like the kensington? My M570s keep failing.

You literally had me searching for Kensington parts on my ThinkPad for 5 minutes. Totally forgot the trackball is Kensington because the palmrest covers up the logo. I've had it for 5 years, daily use. No wear except for the left mouse button having turned shiny,

Cringe

My t430 looks nice

Anti-mirin' that bootleg toaster sticker.

Literally who?

swapped an SSD into my x230 today, and the x220 keyboard for it arrives tomorrow. feeling comfy with my first thinkpad

Can somebody tell me which thinkpad this is?

Guy is claiming 15.6 inch, i7 7th gen.

Price's about 250 bucks, buy is completely protected so...

6th* gen

looks like a T470s

Waiting for my x390 to get here :3

ThinkPads are a Meme
>X220/X230 have soldiers CPUs and require expensive mods for FHD
>T420/T430 is a 14" laptop that still doesn't have FHD, but weighs more than some 17" laptops
>T520/530 Ghetto desktop designed for those who never leave the house and are about to an hero

Moot loves Apple

He betrayed us.

Attached: dec.jpg (612x816, 53K)

Is 16GB of ram necessary for a portable laptop like the X1? The 6th gen is on sale ansld has 8GB of soldered RAM. The 7th gen you have the option of 16 GB of soldered RAM. I feel like 8 is enough for what you would use that laptop for.

He traded one luxury brand for another. Surprise.

Are you fucking retarded, 7lbs is not heavy for an ultrabook and there is nothing ghetto about a military grade T520.

I bet you're one of those macfags always trying to look cool on your iphone at starbucks, but we don't care about that shit, we use military grade ThinkPads and flip phones, because fuck you!

sorry if this is a dumb question but do the intel/vega chips use the open source amd drivers for 3d/acceleration on linux?

user from couple of threads ago. I was going to buy T450 for $400 but another user told me that's retarded. I ordered one from ebay for $180 with shipping. Hope I don't get some broken shit. I'll keep you posted. :3

I have 1st gen x1 i7-3667U (2c/4t) with 8gb. I think it's okay, if you can afford and don't mind the extra $ for the 16gb, it won't hurt to have and helps future proof, but I really never max out the full 8gb and don't see it necessary. I have firefox with like 6 tabs, a tv show playing, win7 vm (2c/2gb ram), and some small bg programs like deluge, redshift & telegram, and this is my system usage. up to you, but I'm sure you'll be fine, like you said, it's a portable, not a workstation.

Attached: 1546776636056.png (567x120, 14K)

Thanks for pic related I think I'll be okay with 8GB.

my T520 sits at 50c no matter how high i set the fans. what should i expect temp wise after i clean it out and repaste it?

>>T520/530 Ghetto desktop designed for those who never leave the house and are about to an hero
fuck you cia, stop watching me slowly die from grief, misery and utter desperation.

Stone cold loser.

how hot is too hot for an x250?

just want to know wether to repaste or not

Attached: this is all you need to see to understand.jpg (739x769, 236K)

This is Moot, the founder of 4chins. He only uses MacBook(tm).

I was trying to take a good photo of my T420 today

Attached: 1538595642596.png (400x333, 87K)

Attached: sBLRuZY.jpg (1220x608, 171K)

What's a good laptop adjustable stand to use T420/T450 like a monitor?

I'm pretty sure that is right. Theres no way it could be 15.6", unless that keyboard is huge.

If you have to ask, repaste. Though if your grill is black instead of the copper one, it might not help that much. I swapped mine for one taken from dead x240 when i repasted. Temps dropped by 10c when idle.

Congrats on having it, user!

I just got my x250 and I want to install linux. Right now I have windows 10 Pro and I cannot see license sheet on the back of laptop. There is also no recovery partition on hdd. Will I be able to ever install legal windows again? I can save product key entered into system, but how can I find right version of windows iso that would match my product key

license key is usually hidden under the battery.

not for any laptop sold with windows 8 or later, these have the key stored in bios so during installation key should be automatically read from uefi so there's no need to ever look for product key

x61(s) is ultra comfy

posted from my x61

fuck its black...

oh well

>T420/T430 is a 14" laptop that still doesn't have FHD, but weighs more than some 17" laptops
I just placed an order for the t430, but I didn't know it was that heavy... Seriously, how fucked am I?

*looks up weight*
>5.5lb
You guys are all fucking wimps, seriously. Shouldn't be a surprise, but holy fuck can you seriously not carry five and a half pounds? I'm no bodybuilder myself, I'm pretty fucking skinny, but it boggles my mind that people think that's heavy. Compared to other laptops? Sure, but I fail to see the problem.

FHD possible with a 100usd kit from the chinks. The 17" laptops that weight that much will fall apart in your hands if you breathe on it wrong

You need to clean that cumstain off the palm rest.

yo how come your x250 running 32bit linux

what's the earliest thinkpad to have HDMI? I love my x201 but I had to put wangblows back on it for recording on the go, I want to get a new thinkpad for my linux needs but want to be able to plug it into my TV without fucking around with VGA adapters and that kind of shit

Okay I want a small form factor but don't want to play $500 after mods and upgrades for an old ass x230 that's only going to last me a couple of years. Should I just go for an x250?

This. Especially considering you're gonna have it in your backpack when walking around.

holy fuck i actually didn't realise that, guess when shit starts breaking ill wipe and reinstall 64 bit deb 10

Attached: 1531586048197.jpg (588x500, 75K)

You damn fool... He is the Moot. Moot invented Google cloud along with networked waterpainting software.

I'm buying T490 with FHD with non-multi-touch monitor, I7, 16 GB RAM, brand new. Yes, I know it's better value to buy them used, but I can afford new. What should I expect?

anons what is your idle temperature?
my x250 sits at 41°C
what do

My X200s idles at around 30C.
X230 idles at around 40C.
Repasting helps I suppose because the X230 isn't repasted but the X200s is.

moot >google is shit, they are the lowest scum on the earth! they are enemy's of privacy!!!
google >yo moot, want a job?
moot> chrishateswriting.com/post/140641275808/my-next-chapter

>what should I expect
chinese botnet

anyone with an x250 running linux? any idea why my x250 is reporting a fan2 at 65535rpm with lm-sensors? fan1 is correctly reported so i'm just ignoring fan2 atm.

>65535
Some variable fuckery. 65535 is 2^16 - 1 so something somewhere broke. Just ignore it, the X250 only has one fan anyways.

The Satania sticker is amazing.

Tried... It's rock hard residue from a windows sticker.

Is the Newegg T440 any good? Or still too expensive.

goo gone my dude

this or some kind of oil you have laying around the house
olive oil works* but don't leave any behind or it will go rancid

:3

xx20 has dp

I have a question about their premium warranty or whatever the fuck it is. What happens if a USB port breaks? Last laptop I had it broke due to constantly moving/removing a usb cable. Do they fix that?

is it potentially a coding issue with lm-sensors or a hardware issue on my side? yeah, i'm just ignoring it but i'm also curious. wonder if other people's x250s show the same output.

Is installing an msata ssd into the X220 even worth it speed-wise? I'd really like to have a 2tb barracuda and SSD for boot in my system, but the speed difference due to sata 2 doesn't look significant enough for it to matter at all

I have a 8 yo 520i with 6gb of ram and a i3-2350m. How much of a performance improvement can I expect from swapping the hdd for an ssd? Will it be able to surf the web at usable speeds?

Attached: IMG_20190711_205255.jpg (4000x1824, 1.79M)

SSD is 100% worth the investment. Your boot times will be nonexistent. People on /g will shill you some high end bs, but a kingston 240GB is like 20$ right now, no reason not to upgrade.
>t. x220 user with ssd

Is it possible to coreboot a T420 with just software and no hardware modifications? I wanna step up my FOSS game.

Anyone know if this ram is compatible with t520?
umart.com.au/G-Skill-16GB-DDR3-1600-Dual-Channel-SODIMM-[SQ]-F3-1600C11D-16GSQ_23073G.html

It doesn't matter, you're overpaying regardless.

Well I must be retarded because I can't seem to find a good deal on 16gb ram that's compatible with t520

>amazon.com/CORSAIR-Vengeance-204-Pin-SO-DIMM-CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10/dp/B0076W9Q5A/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ddr3 1600mhz sodimm&qid=1562895991&s=gateway&sr=8-3
compatibility is a meme

Thanks user

Anytime brother. Be smart with your purchases in the future.

considering this as my new laptop. thoughts? usage is just linux hobbyism, media consumption and light gaymes for travel. I just want
>1080p
>good battery life
>AMD
>decent build quality and basic upgradability (accessible storage, ram, battery)

Attached: IMG_20190712_121002.png (1080x1430, 434K)

What kind of games user?
Seems a little to expensive for media

Turns out it would cost $106 AUD compared to the $108 from the one I previously linked so probably no better off

mostly 2000s stuff but some modern titles as well like total war on lower settings. they have been getting vulkan ports which run great

why is there no A595 or T595, is it intel bribes?

sorry I forgot to mention that these are Australian dollaridoos

Why not get an older model then? the X20/30 series will be much cheaper, but offer the decent performance on what you want to run (unless running windows 10).

I want one of those tiny netbooks, and I've seen Thinkpad ones before. Can anyone give me the rundown on these models and how modern they are?

the second hand market basically doesn't exist here. the price gap isn't big enough to make me prefer anything over a new model, and I'd like to have warranty too.

Where are you located? Third-world?

yes, Australia

Maybe the 14e chromebook then install linux? Make sure to get the Intel one for the baremetal install

My condolences. Out of curiosity, what are the price differences between new and old models?

Attached: IMG_20190712_124714.png (1062x1275, 500K)

>x220i
>320gb hdd
>i3
$250 + shipping

wew, I'm sorry lads.

My x220 was 65$. Blessed to live in a modern country

>see Thinkpad model on eBay I have been eyeballing for a while at a good price
>buy it
>go on Kijiji
>someone in my town is selling that exact same model dirt cheap, even shows invoice
>already have 7 laptops
This is the meaning of suffering. I might buy it anyways lol

the positive side is that we have excellent consumer rights protection that force companies to respect warranties (even past expiration with reason) regardless of self repair

>X1E / P1 are hovering around $1,000
>T520 literally does everything I do day-to-day
>still feel the urge to buy

Attached: 1562902480538.png (400x372, 142K)

>latin american keyboard?

Where? Chile? beware of Yapo scammers

I want to replace my T450 drive, but the new one is a little thicker than the old one and won't exactly fit right. I'm thinking if I remove this squishy thing in the corner of the bay, it'll fit just right. Should I?
