Want help? >State budget & CURRENCY >Post at least some attempt at a parts list >List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming >R3 2200G - Light 30-60fps gaming (dGPU optional). >R5 2600 - Good 60fps+ gaming CPU; great value >R5 3600 - midrange; good for all but the absolute highest end GPUs >R7 3700X/9900k - Overkill FPS for most GPU/monitor pairings >R9 3900X - Gaming+Streaming/Extreme Productivity.
RAM: >Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks ONLY for a typical dual channel CPU >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 minimum >AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
Graphics cards based on current pricing: 1080p >RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost >GTX 1660 - higher fps / more demanding games >RX 5700 - even higher FPS 1440p >RX 5700 - 75-100fps+ in most games. Wait for 5700 XT non-blower cards for higher end >RTX 2080ti - Highest possible FPS, but poor value 2160p (4K) >RTX 2070 Super OC - budget option. Turing performance scales better into 4K than Navi does. >2080Ti - best for 4K but expensive
>Wait for non-blowers if considering the 5700 XT. 5700 blower is fine and comparable to 2060S noise levels, due to being low power.
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING >Yes, adaptive sync (freesync) is important >A 256GB+ SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor >NVMe don't give faster boot/load times than a fast SATA SSD >"Bottleneck checker" sites don't work >Don't use Speccy, use hwinfo instead >See "more" for VRM chart
5% matters in 2-3 years when your CPU is barely enough to get solid 60.
Isaiah Lee
Ah so it's more of a poverty thing...
Kayden Brown
This is definitely true if you're a corelet
Eli Brown
>3700X and above >2-3 years You mistyped 8-10 years
Michael Garcia
AMD's graphics cards are subpar.
Jose Walker
Ok so long story summarized >Buy new GPU >literally a centimeter or two too long for my PC due to the AIO in the case >Exchange it for a smaller GPU >New GPU works flawlessly >Makes horrible, annoying coil rattle under load though >Could fit the GPU I wanted if I downgrade to a smaller cooler for $100
Should I go through the trouble just for a little less fan noise? My biggest concern is that I exchange the good GPU for one that fails.
already bought GPU and RAM using for photoshop and occasional gaming, not returnable anything I should consider changing, and is waiting for about half a year an okay thing to do for price drops?
>getting overpriced 12 cores in 2019 O i am laffin. I'm getting a 4 or 6 which do just fine for current gpus, and by the time it gets outdated I'll just get the newer cpu for cheaper and it will still be compatible with my mobo/socket
Leo Walker
Cheapest avaliable 32gig kit is "Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz" with CL16, heard mixed things about corsair's LPX ram. Any input appreaciated
nope you only get 1% better benchmark than cl16 and zero difference in gayming
Isaiah Taylor
Kek You are unironically based
Lincoln Johnson
>4Tb ssd get a 500 Gb for OS and gaymes and hdd for long term storage
Luis Williams
Right now you can only go full SSD if you only have a couple of GB, not much more than 1TB for example. Otherwise for multimedia storage you can't avoid HDD's just yet. Kinda blows how we're not there yet
David Jenkins
Thanks Meanwhile I'm overclocking my apu, it makes games go from a visibly half assed fps to smooth fps
Eli Powell
Tfw have to buy a new HDD before this one dies with all my data
I hate life
Brandon Jackson
upload your data online and get a new SSD
Charles Morris
I don't even have an ssd
Ayden Roberts
i7-9700K or 3700x?
Fucking Ryzen motherboards have buggy as hell Bios
Camden Taylor
what are the best hdd you would point me to ? seagates ? samsung ? or wd ? also, with a r7 3700x and 5700xt, is a Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Series 16 Go (2x 8 Go) DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 enough ? thanks
Mason Gonzalez
get one then.
Ryan Walker
Seagate barracuda
Easton Ortiz
>not backing up data >I hate life And life hates you. Back up your shit.
Joseph Ramirez
reliability toshiba p300>wd blue>seagate barracuda price per Gb is the opposite >also, with a r7 3700x and 5700xt, is a Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Series 16 Go (2x 8 Go) DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 enough ? thanks yes more than enough but if you're gayming you don't need 3700x, waste of money you'd rather invest in better invest somewhere else 3600 or 3600x is fine
I gave up on Ryzen and bought an 8400 and B360 mobo. For gaming it seems to match or exceed Zen2 for a much better price. And the RAM is much cheaper since it only supports 2666mhz.
>but if you're gayming you don't need 3700x, waste of money you'd rather invest in better invest somewhere else. 3600 or 3600x is fine yeah I know its a bit overkill but I want my build to last at least 3 years so I'm investing into it. Also the other part are pretty much high tier as well so i dont think I need to invest somewhere else beside a powerfull monitor. >Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO >Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Series 16 Go (2x 8 Go) DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 >Seagate BarraCuda 4 To (ST4000DM004) >Corsair RM750x 80PLUS Gold >Corsair Crystal 570X RGB >MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS >AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Wraith Prism LED RGB (3.6 GHz / 4.4 GHz) >Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1 To >MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GAMING X TRIO
>also don't buy 5700xt blower, wait for AIB Yeah I meant that one, thanks.
Brody Bailey
Is there any monitor that fits the following: >21"-24" >OLED >1920 x 1080 >60hz >Freesync
Aiden Cook
>yeah I know its a bit overkill but I want my build to last at least 3 years so I'm investing into it. pointless since you'll be bottlenecked by GPU and by the time you change, AM4 socket will be outdated
Luke Ward
>Ryzens are better performance per money >But you have to use crutch ie expensive ram for it to perform well AMD a joke
Josiah Taylor
i want a good mATX am4 board
Ryan Hernandez
>ASUS enabling PCIe4 on B450 Am I iq89 for ordering MSI B450?
>Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Series 16 Go (2x 8 Go) DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 bruh go for vengeance lpx 2x8 3200MHz Cl 16 literally same card but without gay RGB that'll waste you money >Corsair Crystal 570X RGB again pointless RGayB Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case is better >MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS again waste of money on function that aren't being used go b350 or b450
Zachary Moore
All of my parts for my new build should get here tomorrow, except for my graphics card which will be a couple more days. It's gonna be tough seeing the pile of sealed boxes and not being able to start the build yet
Brody Reed
Get a 3600(X) and get a 2080S Or save another 100$ by going 5700XT Overpaying twice for no gain is stupid
Adrian Clark
>wd blue Trash with forced firmware that makes the drive spin down every 7 seconds just like greens did before. Do not buy anything other than reds from WD. Toshibas are also much more loud compared to WD or Seagate.
Carter Cox
>Unless you get some redundancy, you're playing defect lottery no matter which HDD manufacturer you go with Pretty sure the only thing you can even watch out for is to go to the manufacturer who offers the longest warranty and will be likely to actually honor it. Of course you just know your shit is gonna explode the day after the warranty runs out so it's just wishful thinking anyway
Jacob Johnson
Wow nice timings, really proves your point
Connor Cooper
What CPU should i buy to get the best out of my gaming PC? I'm a complete noob when it comes to this thing, but I know that my CPU is holding my back.
AMD Apus really are the best invention of the decade. You literally get a GT1030 for FREE.
Jonathan Cook
>0.7% difference between 3000c16 and 3200c14 >b-b-but muh timings Sorry retard you're going to need new material. Zen 2 runs hot, maybe you can work that angle?
Nolan Evans
How about getting a socket of this decade lmao
Tyler Ross
>OLED monitor You want a TV fucking nigger
Lincoln Gutierrez
How reliable are Rosewill PSUs?
Jordan Carter
No because ASUS boards can't even boot.
Liam Robinson
Just the best value over price passing by. FPS counter on bottom right. youtu.be/skHTEC6FMfA
Justin Sanchez
Daily reminder that this is what you get for going 2070s instead of 5700xt
>Why didn't you mount the AIO radiator at the top of the case? Or chuck the front fascia of the case and mount the radiator fans on the outside? >There was probably something you could've done.
Because I'm a retard who didn't plan his build properly. I bought a 280mm aio and it wouldn't fit mounted at the top of my case due to the motherboard mostly
If I get a 240mm aio I can mount it to the top and basically fit whatever I want GPU wise
Bros please help I’m having trouble picking a board. I’m trying to get a 3600.
>MSI b450 Tomahawk (has bios flashback but is more expensive)
>ASRock Fatal1ty b450 (needs bios update, not sure how much micro center charges
>ASRock B450 PRO4 (also requires update but also the cheapest)
I was originally going to get the PRO4, but I looked again this morning and the Tomahawk I originally wanted has been restocked and they cut prices on all of them so I’m having second thoughts.
I’m bundling with the processor so they will cost less so which is most worth?
>Tomahawk at $115 >Fatal1ty at $90 >PRO4 at $80
Carter Rivera
avoid asscock
Cameron Gray
If it's stable and you lost no performance, it's good. Tomahawk is the only good one.
Christopher Barnes
whoops, dropped a 0. 0.0875. although 0.4-0.5V max would be nice.
Brayden Reed
got a pro4 and 3600 just yesterday for a roommate, works fine i own a 2200g, so i used that to update the bios
Ethan Peterson
so basically for a CPU go with ryzen unless you have 600$+ for a CPU+cooler, in which case you go 9900k?
Camden Hughes
Thanks Bros for not letting me get chucked by asrock. I’d rather spend a little more and get the board I know is quality
Ryan Adams
Depends on your workload, the 3900X is still competitive vs the 9900K.
Wyatt Hill
If your budget is 2000+ and you’re only gaming, go intel
If you’re literally anyone else, go amd
Aiden Jackson
best cheap mini itx case? and do any of you run SSD only? im thinking of having just one 1TB SSD and no HDD in my new build.
Michael Mitchell
Real talk 9900K and 3900X are neck to neck do you think 3950X will beat 9900k and will be the final nail in the intel coffin? fanboys need not apply
