Post in this thread if you're using a last gen or older GPU. State what you paid and what you're using it for.
I have 2 GPUs that I use for games and video editing. First is a Gigabyte RX 580 that I got for $160 a year ago. Second is a Nitro + 570 that I got from a miner for $89 a few months back for a secondary PC.
What do you Jow Forumsuys have from the last gen or older?
wait I forgot it didn't launch with aibs wait another month
Isaac Harris
>R9 390 >roughly $250 mid 2016 wasn't gonna wait for aftermarket 480s and the 390 performs the same as them anyway. Considering grabbing a 5700 when aftermarket coolers are available, just need to figure out if my locked quad core i5 can handle more gpu power
William Morgan
still using a component video adapter card from the 70s here, works great i can see all 40 pixels just fine
Jonathan Garcia
He's a good boi but he destroys things when unsupervised. In Pic related he scattered this trash.
I'm on a gtx 950. It's not a bad little card. It gets the job done most of the time even if it isn't the most recent or the most powerful. It's pretty efficient and very quiet so I'm happy with it.
John Turner
Does that card require a 6 pin? I had a 1050 ti for a while that I loved for the same reason. Quiet and cool, and still got the job done.
Daniel Taylor
>gtx 750 1gb $100 like 5 years ago, i'm gonna get an rx570 or 590 at the end of the month, idk which yet.
Dominic Clark
gtx 670. would still use it if it had more than 2gb ram. i paid about 530$ back in a day
Kayden Green
XFX RX 480, around €240 new close to launch, as my daily driver MSI R9 390, around €330 new close to launch, for my Windows VM (replaced my 560ti), replaced by the 480 as my daily driver when the 390 became more or less unusable due to amdgpu/radeonsi bugs and fglrx going eol
Oliver Morales
GTX 1070 Ti for $300 on my workstation. R7 370 for free from a family member on the PC which drives my TV in the living room.
Oliver Lee
ATI Radeon HD 6870 1 GB. I don't care to upgrade, as it does all I require it to. Bought it like 6 years ago for 100.00 usd. Have used it for vidya, mining, and it's opencl capability.
Gavin Martinez
I'm in a similar spot right now. Been using my 290 for 4 years now and it still tears through everything I throw at it like it's nothing, but I feel like my 4690K would hold back anything more powerful.
Luke Bailey
bought a Vega 56 red dragon for 400€ last september. probably gonna use it for at least a few years. Not seeing it getting obsolete for 1080p gaming in the near future...
James James
I kinda want a Vega 56 but they don't seem worth the money now the 5700xt is around. Cool card tho, and from what I read they are more powerful for productivity than newer cards.
Dylan Thomas
Similarly I feel a full system upgrade to zen 2 and navi would be much too expensive for the possible gains
Ryder Mitchell
1080ti. the best gpu purchase i ever made. the radeon vii in my other build is the worst gpu purchase i ever made so it all balances out.
Currently using a 970 I got from my brother. Previously I had a 560Ti which I had no intention on replacing.
I also have an ATI 5670HD as a backup and because it doesn't need dedicate power supply.
Kevin Baker
can't stay mad at that boi his eyes are pretty
Anthony Parker
GTX 550ti, bought it for my PC in 2013, already upgraded but I recently built my younger brother a desktop for him to play some old games with it.
Gabriel Rodriguez
It's like having a coal power plant in the middle of your little residential district
Jaxson Diaz
Yeah, I'd basically have to get a completely new PC, as none of my current hardware bar the GPU and storage is compatible wih current gen stuff.
Jayden Wright
Could upgrade to a 7700k if, you know, THEY WEREN'T STILL SELLING AT MSRP WTF ARE YOU DOING INTEL
Landon Morris
would love to use the high double precision float performance for deep learning shit, but almost everything seems to depend on cuda...
Ryder Nelson
I'm on Z87 still (4690K), so the absolute top dog on that platform would be a 4790K. And 8GB RAM is starting to show its limits too, so ideally I'd add some more sticks, but DDR3 is old and busted...
Logan Thompson
Paid 470€ for a GTX 1070ti in December 2017. Probably would have settled for something cheaper nowadays.
r9 270x ~170€ or sth ? Backup RX 480 230€ sold for 330€ :^) GTX 1070 400€ not sure what to do with it, I can sell it for 200€ atm
Alexander Edwards
tfw this in my country 2 years ago were €350+ so i bought a ugly asus 1060 at €284
Easton Wilson
Both cards that I have are last gen now. The RX 580 is just a backup card for now, though I purchased a Xeon E5-1620 v2 on Ebay earlier and plan to make a build out of that, plus a chink X79 motherboard I've had laying around for ages and the RX 580.
R9 270 flashed to r9 270x (for hackintosh purposes)
It just wrks. Only reasong I'm considering upgrading my whole rig is because I can't find cheap DDR3 RAM.
Dylan Edwards
ive got 16 gb (4 dimms) of ddr3 ram. how much would you pay for that
Noah Howard
I'm looking to max out my PC so I can pass it on to a family member so I'm looking for 4x 8gb sticks. They ain't cheap that's for sure.
Hudson Morales
i really like my 590. You can even play most games on 1080p low settings with the fan set very low and quiet , or if you dont mind the noise, the fan will keep your card arctic
Landon Butler
Got this beast for 220$ in July 2017 1510mhz on the core 8008mhz mem Lately it's overhearing as hell I'm thinking of water cooling it I might Push the card more. It's working just fine without any problems , well.. except it's 77-80 on full load on some games like mordhau and pubg.
Regular Reference 980 , i think i got it for like 400 or 450?
I use it for Gaymen and recently hardware encoding when i watch stuff through plex. Its not ideal for my 1440p 144hz set up. Im hoping the 5700xt AIB's are decent.
FYI it sounds like a jet engine when underload.
Oliver Wright
Untill a few days ago I was using a 290x I picked up used 4years ago. I traded it out for an old mining rx580 from eBay for ~$100. Working pretty good so far
Austin Rogers
>290X to 580 Did you just want the reduced power draw? Because there's not much between those in terms of performance.
Nicholas Flores
I use a Sneed that I sucked and fucked 2 years ago.
Matthew Sullivan
$120 750ti 2-3 years ago. Overwatch, league, and osu.
William Bennett
>14mn >old
Mason Anderson
We no longer have to worry about the heat death of the universe with my Fury Nitro space heater heating space
Luke Bailey
It's got a bit on it at 1080 and yeah the heat reduction is nice, and less strain on my psu. 6pin > 8+6pin.
Leo Sanchez
wut cpu do you have under that big ol' poo cooler?
Isaiah Rivera
I still use my MSI 390x. Works pretty well for 1080/60, and it runs 3 monitors all the time. It's had a shit ton of use since I bought it in 2015, including a lot of gaming and some crypto mining. Overall been a great card.
Thinking that I may upgrade to 1440/144hz and a new card later this year or early next year. Hoping that the super release means some pricing changes and that I can snag a nice upgrade with money for a monitor left.
John Davis
Original Nvidia Titan, bought it late 2013. Still runs great, plays monster hunter world high settings 44 fps, over 200 on MOBA's and shit.
>Futureproofing doesn't exist
news for you chief
Liam Rodriguez
Yes.
Leo Lopez
Strix 980ti that I bought right when they came out for around $1100 leafbucks. I use a 4k monitor and it still does the job just fine.
Im running a 2080, non super, does that count as last gen? Paid £740 for an ASUS board that died in warranty, they didn't have any of those in stock to replace it with so they bumped me up to an EVGA that's £780 on their website though I didn't have to pay the difference. I use it for Netflix and Notepad.
Zachary Robinson
Is that the trigger phrase Something just popped in my brain
Ryder Robinson
Kek that's what I'm running and I use it for rocket league and ungoogled chromium Of course it's last gen, the rtx supers are current gen
Hudson Ross
Still using a 1070. See no reason to upgrade, still plays all games at max with plenty of performance.
Andrew Mitchell
Nice pupper.
Eli Nguyen
What's his name?
Mason Smith
1070Ti here. Same deal.
Jose Morris
Some sort of wackadoodle AGP/PCI hybrid based on the Rendition V2200.
Matthew Butler
I'm using a 970 that I paid $330 for back in 2014 It's whatever, it works but the 3.5 meme holds me back
6970 I bought eight years ago for ~$400; The only problem I've encountered over the last couple years is the fan controller blowing out... real shitty because at $50/yr usage I ain't to happy. Hopefully a fan splitter will solve this shit because Its a nice card.
Joseph Hernandez
Bought used GTX 750 2Gb for 40 dollars. Runs fine, has NVENC, what more could you wish for?
You're fat. I know you are based on your disgusting floors. Holy shit, kill yourself
Leo Green
>>complaining about 60 watts imagine
Dylan Lee
750ti eGPU'd into a thinkpad
John Ross
Damn, I bought a used 960 for $40... fuck you got fleeced
Luke Hughes
I just bought a manufacturer refurb 8GB RX 480 for $140
Andrew White
Bought in November 2016 for $240 right before buttcoin destroyed the gpu market. Probably the single best value for dollar spent I've ever had in an electronics purchase.
Before this I had a GTX 460 SE (1gb) and while it was fine, it was not great even when it was contemporary.
Before that was a 7600 GT, loved that card but tech advanced more quickly in the mid to late 00's so it got outdated quickly
>old >570 and 580 that are still relevant and being considering the best cards for 1080p and 1440p >ok...
Anthony Hernandez
no u
Landon Taylor
Is integrated graphic counts?
Dylan Reyes
Got me a good ol GTX 680 and it's still running strong
Lucas Jenkins
His name is Mohammed.
Kayden Wright
I guess, do you have an old ass chip?
Elijah Hill
That shit isn't ideal even for 1080p 144hz lmao.
Lincoln Davis
>Got me a good ol GTX 680 and it's still running hot
Bentley Ortiz
GTX 960 Bought when 900 series was hot new shit. Paid whatever it retailed for-minus reasonable discount.
2 R7 240x's I saw them on craigslist while we were waiting on RX to be announced. Copped for $150. Had them for quite a while now. Gonna toss them into some dell slim chassis when I have time.
Lucas Lewis
What's with his left eye?
Parker Wilson
NVidia GeForce 8600GTS from 2008. The computer has AMD A8-5500 bought in 2013. Can't be arsed to upgrade, the APU has a spare graphics card in case the GeForce dies. It runs linux and all the programs I need.
The only reasom to upgrade would be to do calculations in Gnu Octave that require considerable time and go near 1 hour on Core2 Duo laptop CPU which translates to 15 minutes on A8-5500, which also gives 4 minutes on Ryzen 7 2700, given the calculation is written to be multithread with MPI.
Gavin Lee
>pickup r5 2600 for $110 in january >mfw old 4690k is going for $100 on used market
I did the same thing with an i7 6700, sold it for the same price as my Ryzen 7 2700. Really surprised me. Well, you're posting on Jow Forums, so even if you're not fat, you're probably a faggot or having something going seriously wrong in your life too.
