Want help? >State budget & CURRENCY >Post at least some attempt at a parts list >List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on most mobos with the right BIOS) >R3 2200G - Recommended minimum gaming >R5 2600 - Good gaming CPU with great value >R5 3600 - Great gaming CPU >R7 3700X - Overkill gaming CPU >R7 1700X - Budget video editing >R9 3900X - Professional tasks
RAM: >Always choose at least a two stick kit; 2x 8GB is recommended >CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3200CL16 is ideal >AMD B and X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
Graphics cards based on current pricing: >Used cards can be had for a steal; inquire about warranty 1080p 16:9 >RX 570 8GB - good performance with great value >GTX 1660 - standard >RX 5700 - overkill framerates* 1440p 16:9 + 1080p 21:9 >RX 5700 - basic >RX 5700XT - standard* >RTX 2070 Super - higher framerates in some games* 2160p 16:9 + 1440p 21:9 >RTX 2070 Super - standard >RTX 2080Ti - best fit for 4K but expensive *requires complementary CPU and high Hz monitor
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING >Don't bother buying a new monitor for gaming unless it's high refresh with adaptive sync >A 250GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor >Bottleneck checkers are worthless
Not exactly a building question per se, but what system profiler software should I use to replace Speccy?
Robert Bailey
you can try hwinfo
Oliver Edwards
pcpartpicker.com/list/cJXMBb Any idea where I can cut costs? Took the pro carbon ac because it comes with wifi and that vega 56 is much cheaper than any rtx where I'm from.
I don't want to wait August for the customs rx 5700/xt user.
Tyler Howard
>Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Zen 2 CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.
Planning on upgrading to a 3600 from a 1600, Should i pick up a new board or stick with my B350?
Cooper Jenkins
You can get a cheaper PSU aswell as mobo if this is an office pc. Maybe get 16gb ram. So you can easily multitask. Like have several tabs of chrome + outlook + excel + autocad + explorer. I tend to have those open frequently. It'll help keep the system snappy. Look up pagefiling for ram aswell.
Alexander Peterson
do cases have place for network cards these days? >why not just use cable router is two rooms from mine, and would either require some wall drilling I dont know how to do without fucking entire wall, or using long cable that would piss off everyone else in house
Xavier Watson
my system refuses to boot with XMP profiles and new ryzen 3600. it does run at 3200mhz without the profile. It ran XMP before cpu upgrade. wat do? wait for new bios update?
Wyatt Jenkins
I'm still trying to find a good budget and performance to aim for so far I know I'm going to be using Windows 7 so the CPU needs to be compatible with it, and that I want a 1080p 144hz monitor but I'm fine playing non-action games at 60fps. I also want a second monitor for everything that doesn't require
>router is two rooms from mine move to the room or extendo + ductape it to the wall
Anthony Johnson
wtf is that RAM cost
Grayson Garcia
if you're clever and you're house is setup well you can run a long eth cable in a somewhat discreet out the way manner
Logan Bailey
if only web browsing you can go b350 mobo 2x2gb ram or 1x4 also psu is too much get a non mondular at 200 W
Jaxson Gray
3200 cl14 aren't cheap, I know they're a meme but what's better for less? cl16?
Thomas Smith
overkill on ram ripjaws V 2x4 3200 or corsair vengeance lpx 2x8 3200
Ian Bennett
bruh august will come anyways you can either wait for mid august or seethe in mid august when they release because you're stuck with the big gay for 5 years
Isaiah Flores
cl14 only gives 1-2% advantage over cl 16 and that's only on benchmark, not something you'll see IRL
Oliver James
Are there any real world benchmarks for the new PICe 4.0 NVMe SSDs? I really want to know how much faster Windows 10 and video games startup.
What do you guys think? Not sure if I'm going to regret going for an SFF case in regards to temps.
Zachary Sullivan
where can i find those PSUs? i can fit 16gb into the budget, thanks for the recommendation. no more of the days of $80 for 2x4 sticks lol, ram is actually affordable these days.
Brayden Thomas
yeah find whichever is the cheapest
Grayson Gray
At retail sure.
The main reason cl14 is desired is it indicates b-die which scales really well with higher vdimm.
Xavier Cooper
Replacing my 8350 that's been at 4.4ghz over the past 3 years with something Ryzen. Should I save some scratch and glide along with a 2600/2700 or should I shell out for the 3 series and the 570 chipset? Gaming in 1080p with Music Productions (DAWS, plugins, etc. Heard that a lot of plugins favor core count but idk)
Pic semi related-one of the fans I pulled out of a second hand C70 case which I plan to build in. Clean your fucking PCs you fags.
I have to pay around $160 more for a decent 2060S where I'm from user. That or $50 more for a base rx 5700, actually, I can since I'm not taking those cl14 RAM.
Jaxson Rodriguez
>8400 adopter in 2019 >don't need no expensive RAM kits >don't need no cheaply made and buggy motherboard with actively cooled chipsets >still no problems with any AAA titles
Blake Ortiz
Forgot to add RAM: CMK16GX4M2E3200C16 or CMK16GX4M2D3600C18 Not sure yet.
Jaxson Foster
plox respon at least tell me which monitor to buy for a start >1080p 144hz, >1ms response time, and preferably lower budget pcpartpicker.com/product/ZBZ2FT/aoc-monitor-g2460pf is this the best choice for my criteria? also what is the best cable to choose to minimize input lag?
Ironically where I had thought the sweet spot would be, thanks user. I didn't know if it would be worth it going to x3/470 instead of the B series for 1080. I like Mobo features but even the 450s seem loaded.
Christian Hill
please be bait

Used 2600Xs and 1700s can be as low as $100-120 USD. While the IPC and max clock increases on Ryzen 3000 are great, it's still incremental if you didn't need more cores.
Advice for everyone. Look at the refresh rate and resolution of your monitor, look at the benchmarks for games you like to play, and get the cheapest Ryzen chip that meets those specs.
If not Zen 3 next year is really going to change microarchitecture with 4SMT per core and ram stacked on the io die supposedly. I'm on a delidded 7700K 5 [email protected] and a 1080 Ti 2 [email protected]. The only reasonable direct upgrade across the board for me would be the 9700K which sometimes goes for ~$200 USD and a $130 USD z370m board because I made the big brain decision to get a microatx case right when multigpu died.
Jaxson Cox
I put the individual parts through pcpartpicker and they come to an almost identical price, and this comes pre-built. Am I missing something here?
pcpartpicker.com/list/HX8PMZ This should looks good then (RX 5700 should be msi instead of sapphire). I was able to save $300 for this build, I might get a HDD later for my everyday use or maybe get a better monitor.
Brody Ward
I can get a brand new RTX 2080 for only £499. Worth the upgrade from a 980ti I've had since 2015, especially with Supers just around the corner?
Caleb Martin
>RX 5700 should be msi instead of sapphire sapphire is gold standard for amd
Carson Reed
i5 9600k w/ RTX 2080 Super or i7 9700k w/ RTX 2070 Super?
Elijah Smith
No. The 980 Ti is still competitive at 1080p and even 1440p. That deal isn't anything special, at least it's worse than what I can get in the USA why would you buy intel in the current year
Yes, very much so. It wasn't as popular for the time, but there are good returns. And it isn't like warranty would be an issue, either. lol
Nathaniel Ramirez
UK GPU prices are fucked, we also pay 20% VAT here so everything is over inflated. 499 is actually pretty insane here. looking at benchmarks, 2080 is a nearly 2x bump in FPS compared to the 980ti. My resolution is 2560x1600
Aaron Perez
Go for it, if you're convinced You're basically getting the price the card should be, not an amazing deal
Camden Bailey
>someone asks for advice about certain options >dont do that, do this instead jesus fuck you guys are worse than stackoverflow retards who give useless answers yes AMD is beating intel on the CPU front right now, nobody being serious will deny that but cant you just answer that guys fucking question? the 9600k may slightly bottleneck the 2080s but I feel itd still be a little better than the second option I don't know what the 2080 super MSRP is, but if its less than $130 more than the 2070 super then go for the first if not, go for the second
Christopher Cook

newegg.com/p/N82E16813144261 msi memes aside, is MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI a decent mobo? it's relatively cheap, the specs look fine and having a built-in wifi and bluetooth is very convenient
Lucas Cook
if you want something that's at least clean there are good refurbished workstations that go for ~$200 USD on Newegg.
Wyatt Morris
to add to this, 9600k + 2070 super is also good
Cooper Sanchez
>relatively cheap It's still an expensive board, it just doesn't have the overclocking features you would really want on one
Jordan Fisher
212 evo was a mistake, I'm currently running it at 1.180v 4.4ghz, any more clock and it's a p95 crash, any more voltage and the temps go over 85 degrees and dip into 90 during torture test
Aiden Rogers
The idea for the 212 was that you wouldn't be pushing it that hard Prime95 isn't the most realistic temperature bench
Elijah Jackson
>212 evo why do people buy this when the 212 black is the same price, quieter and cools better I dont fucking get it
Isaiah Phillips
The first timer who was building his first PC here.
Hooked everything up but when I power it, only the RAM comes on and nothing else. The GPU gets a red light for like a second then is gone.
I'm scared dudes. I also found out I cut myself during the build on a sharp piece of the chassis and I pray I didn't bleed on anything.
Nathaniel Jackson
Which is better: >16 gb of RAM at 3200mhz or >32 gb of RAM at 2133mhz
Landon Price
Start unplugging things (video card, drives, etc) until it turns on
Jackson Morris
If ryzen then 3200mhz If intel then 32gb
Austin Jackson
Undid the drive and GPU, nothing. Nothing else I can unplug without just turning it off.
Brayden Johnson
When I turn on the power (just the psu, not the button) the motherboard flashes then turns off.
Nicholas Gutierrez
Looking for a 4 Front USB case for my 9700k and 1080ti, any recommendations?
Gavin Edwards
The prices for those things should be very different Typically, less is more after around 12-16 GB, so I would go with frequency (and timings).
Blake Jackson
Thanks for the advice m8 This is more along the lines of I bought 4x8gb 3200mhz ram without looking to see if my motherboard supported all four sticks at 3200mhz with the XMP profile. It only supports two. All four causes my system to freeze after awhile. Gotta do more research when you do a build. I'm a retard.
Camden Mitchell
When purchasing a ryzen cpu, if I were to wait a few months is it possible that AMD might refine its manufacturing process and I might get a better chip with a little more headroom for overclocking?
Blake Smith
Make sure your RAM and 12 pin connector to your PSU are properly inserted all the way, always happens with greenhorns
Sebastian Howard
The Ram seems seated fine and it turns on when powered, the 12 pin is in good. I don't have any idea what could be wrong, I've looked over ever cable.
Cooper Lee
I haven't used AMD since the single core days. If I were to buy a 3900x what motherboard manufacturer should I go for? ASUS, ASRock, MSI or Gigabyte?
Blood shouldn't hurt much, I sliced my hand open and bled all over my first build and it turned out just fine.
Make sure the CPU connector is hooked up from your PSU to your motherboard. I forgot to do that with my first couple of builds and would panic when nothing would happen with my machine apart from a few of the components appearing to be on.
Easton Wright
I'm thinking of building an all-ayymd system with Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 5700. What mobo and ram would pair well with these? It's been ages since I built a PC, and everything on pcpartpicker is obnoxiously gamer-branded, so I don't know what is considered good.
Ayden Lopez
cm h500
Tyler Parker
since im still exploring my options, a store from where i live is selling a ryzen 3600 with a assrock x370 killer ski rgb i know the op says only taichis are worth something but are they really that retarded to fuck up high end chipsets?
Parker Fisher
I redid every wire, even took out the CPU to see if that would atleast show up with an error on startup but nothing starts. Either it's something obvious or something is fucked.
Aaron Cox
No fans come online when I turn it on so I assume the motherboard is fucked.
Lucas Ramirez
I'm sure I can guess the answer to this already, but is the Geforce Experience software worth shit with it's promise to keep my drivers up to date and optimize games for performance? Or is it just bloat?
