is there an actual reason to use Linux over Windows 10 other than larping as mr robot hacker? inb4 >performance good point if you are a 3rd world poorfag, otherwise the difference is almost non-existant >privacy who gives a shit if everything you do is recorder anyway if you have a phone, if you value privacy so much then throw out all the electronic stuff and go live in a fucking jungle, otherwise it doesn't make sense >muh freedom what's the point of freedom if everything takes 10 times longer and is unstable as fuck? even for basic things you get on windows with 2 click on linux you have to literally spend hours to make it work
Just go back to /v/. I don't want to hear more of your brainlet cope.
Jackson Nelson
>the difference is almost non-existant I’d like to see you do 3D rendering winjeet, my company’s internal tests have shown the same machine rendering on Windows is half as slow as it is on Linux
Blake Watson
nice argument bro
Oliver Jenkins
half as fast* I’m retarded yet my point still stands
Brody Hall
>everything takes 10 times longer and is unstable as fuck? look in a mirror, winfag. Every time i'm forced to use Windows, something inevitably fucks up. >even for basic things you get on windows with 2 click on linux you have to literally spend hours to make it work This is false. Things do take longer... the first time, but after you understand how things work on Linux, it's often far faster than Windows.
Gabriel Fisher
>the difference is almost non-existant no it isn't, this is retarded. if something is 30% faster, it is not negligible just because it is a lower absolute time, because you probably render videos or compile software fairly often >throw out all the electronic stuff and go live in a fucking jungle, otherwise it doesn't make sense privacy is not binary >everything takes 10 times longer no it doesn't, installing stuff is easy as shit if it's in repos for your distro, and compiling software is piss easy too. >unstable as fuck no it isn't, I have never had anything break in my time using Linux. >you have to literally spend hours to make it work no I don't
go back to /v/
apart from that, I completely agree

>who gives a shit a lot of people >everything you do is recorder anyway if you have a phone speak for yourself, and whatever botnet you run on your mobile computers/phones >if you value privacy so much then throw out all the electronic stuff and go live in a fucking jungle false equivalence. If for you "having electronic stuff" equates to losing privacy, I can only feel sorry for your hardware and software choices. Up to you, of course.
Because unlike Windows 10, it's not terrible in every way that matters.
Landon Price
Curious what you're using for rendering, blender? Distributed?

One of the only problems with GNU/Linux is the lack of professional software and games (getting better these days). If it had both of them its marketshare would be at least in the 10+%.
Brayden Morales
At some point this spam has to end, Microsoft
Michael Ramirez
Windows does not have professional software. Proprietary software is the opposite of professional, real businesses need source code access to do custom development and will not pay absurd licensing costs just to be able to do that. >Games Most are proprietary and do not belong on a free as in freedom OS.
Matthew Allen
>appeal Makes Winbabies upset for some reason. There is that.
Cooper Anderson
I’ll bet that OP posted this thread from his hardened gentoo install.
Matthew Young
I mean those programs that many businesses use like MS Office, Adobe products, Sony Vegas, CAD software etc. I know that operating systems based on the Linux kernels completely dominate every single market except for the desktop OS one. I like the GNU philosophy but you also need to have the freedom to use proprietary software like Steam, Discord, Spotify and so on, which are all available on Linux nowadays.
Caleb Ortiz
None of those are professional software. You always have the freedom to use those botnet softwares but they still don't belong on a free OS.
OMG who cares about MUH PRIVACY in 2019. Holy shit go live in a cave.

• Tile managers are a joke. Who needs to split the screen more than twice? Just use TMUX loser. • Xfeces is a joke. A. FUCKING. RAT. • Everyone who has linux spends their free time tweaking it, never being productive. Every unixporn leddit thread has a screenshot of some config file open in vim because they're never satisfied. • GIMP vs Photoshop lel. • JUST RUN IT IN WINE DUDE! lol yeah ok cope harder freetard fag. • VIM bloat ends up running like shit trying to emulate VS Code features and extensions. Tell us more how your .vimrc file is 2000 lines user. Copy + paste in vim does not work OOB from outside of vim unless you have to know the + * registers lol wtf is that garbage GTFO • Officelibre vs Excel HAHAHAHAHAHAHA • Screen tear OOB. Why the fuck should the end user be responsible for fixing that shit just so they can watch youtube videos GTFO with that garbage. • File picker chooser thumbnails OOB non-existent 99% of all distros. • Keyboard shortcuts not as advanced as windows solutions. FIGHT ME ON THIS I WILL EMBARASS YOU. • Everything that is useful like fzf zsh / auto complete could be done on windows using wsl sub shell • Lincucks less efficient on laptops. Drains batteries. What is your plus to this? • MUH PRIVACY. Ok there mr pedoman tor hard candy collector. • MUH FREEDOMS. I had my freedom for past 20 years working on windows. Tell me more how I am a cuck • MUH UPTIME. 80% Jow Forums tards in a linux desktop thread have uptime less than 4 days. I have not had a blue screen last 3 years nor ever had to restart because something froze. • MUH BORDERLESS RICE is your only valid argument up to this point.
FREETARDS BTFO. Don't even try to refute any of my bullet points to save face. You've been served aight.
Imagine being this unemployed and sheltered that you haven't seen anyone using Linux in a real situation. Amazing, really
Sebastian Long
If you care so much about out-of-box functionality, then please direct me to where Win10 keeps its package manger and shell.

If you updated to W10 it's IMPOSSIBLE you weren't presented with some form of BSOD, it came with a lot of update in the past couple of years

Low quality bait >privacy Everything I do on my computer is under my control compared to a billion-dollar company that is known for spying on its users >if you value privacy so much, live in a jungle if you like windows so much, why don't you marry it? >on windows with 2 click on linux you have to literally spend hours to make it work Whatever you have on windows is MOST likely on Linux as well. Why would it take someone experienced with Linux 2 hours to make something work?
Robert Perez
I do research and design for an electronics company. My workstation runs Linux because Windows 10 constantly wants to update, and it breaks a lot. I use Red Hat 7 and have never had an issue. >BUT MUH WINDOWS ONLY SOFTWARE WINE and OpenVM.
I agree with you user, that's why I only run Chrome OS (CloudReady). And best of all, absolutely no games on it.
Ryder Martin
Blender Cycles. My company does all the hardware showrooming in it and even the most bloat free windows install (with all spying and telemetry removed) it’s half the speed on the same file

Who let this brainlet autodesk shill out of his cage?
Xavier White
Does your company render on a GPU or a CPU?
Can't imagine the OS making much of a difference on GPU rendering. Doesn't Blender load the data and instruction onto the graphics card and let it do its thing?
Christian Kelly
because I have a specific workflow that only linux (or *BSD) can supply
Daniel Parker
Better integration with emacs, the program I spend most time in, and better support for non mainstream programming languages.

What's the point of using Windows 10 when there's Windows 7 and 8.1?
>performance Both previous versions of Windows are faster and lighter than 10, with the same level of hardware support.
>privacy Both previous versions of Windows respect the user's choice to disable automatic updates and all kinds of telemetry. On top of that, the settings aren't buried across numerous programs.
>freedom Both previous versions of Windows will leave you with far more free time, as you won't be wasting your time trying to disable and block all the horrendous bullshit and spying and advertising that Windows 10 introduced.
So please tell me why you're shilling Windows 10 when the previous versions of Windows are irrefutably better?
