I did fully move to Linux. Then I got tired of working around it and installed MacOS.

I'm with this guy systemd is a giant mess
pulseaudio sucks (oss doesn't work well without tinkering)
xorg is a shitshow and wayland lacks features
no good file managers
no good webkit based browsers
no good desktops in general
no consistency in themes

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Crux is more barebones than Gentoo. Portage (gentoo) does have more advanced features, but pkgtools(crux) lets you operate directly with its ports and makes it easy. Is so easy to make ports for crux that you can borrow from gentoo, arch, slackware, anywhere. But for that you need to be confident to view and touch makefiles and configure scripts.

no its more complex than that. you have to set keys and then a sequence in /etc/crypttab which frankly I don't know how to do properly. every other distro I've tried has required me to decrypt 2/3 times before login and with Arch I just set it up on 1 drive because it was so much simpler

Switching to Linux + a Windows VM with GPU passthrough was the best thing I've done for myself in a long time. I pass a 2080ti through but it's kind of a waste because I only boot up the VM when there's a particular game to play and it doesn't run/doesn't run well enough on Linux, so I often spend weeks without using my overpriced nvidia crap.

Switching over was a pain because I had put a lot of time and effort into getting Windows to generally behave how I wanted. I had to write replacement software to get some of my common desktop use cases working myself, like how none of the sharex alternatives did what I wanted.

Windows 10 is beginning to piss me off for real. I like the software libraries that are available for Windows for sure, but at this point the user experience is so far removed from what long time Windows users actually want that I am seriously considering switching to GNU/Linux full time.

Should I do it and use WINE for the Windows programs that I do absolutely need?

I moved almost 100%. I still have a windows VM to run msoffice. I live in JP and everybody but me uses Windows in the university, so I need to work with those when sharing files with people. I also use the VM to play visual novels from time to time, mainly to improve my Japanese.

Actually I don't care as much for free shit, I am only using Linux because its better for my current workflow as embedded system developer. I use skype, spotify and vscode in Linux and will use any proprietary software if its better for getting work done.

My printer is just completely hopeless on linux. It even has official drivers on manufacturer's site, but they just don't work. I felt like a dumbass booting to windows to print stuff, so I just decided to step away from linux for now.

For me it's mostly that I'm too lazy to go through my files to back up stuff that I want to keep so I can format+partition the drive.

Losing functionality just to get rid of botnet is not worth it for me. Also since I'm not amerifat or britbong nsa does not care about me.

systemd is a giant mess
How? What are the problems, precisely?
pulseaudio sucks (oss doesn't work well without tinkering)
Pipewire soon(tm), literally nobody uses OSS though, ALSA is the only currently-used low level audio system. Most of the problems I've had with PulseAudio were related to its architecture adapting terribly to the ALSA mess. The idea of multiple dynamically allocated audio ports on an abstraction of a sound card is terrible and breaks autoswitch all the time.
xorg is a shitshow and wayland lacks features
What actually important features does Wayland lack?
no good file managers
Nautilus is decent if you do a lot of network access, otherwise Dolphin.
no good webkit based browsers
Chrome (if you want), ungoogled-chromium, Epiphany, Eolie, Falkon
no good desktops in general
What is missing from the current ones?
no consistency in themes
Adwaita is quite consistent
gtk and qt are a nightmare to develop with
I'm not sure about Qt, but with GNOME Builder, making GTK applications in C or Vala should be fairly straightforward.

Linux is great for servers, CUPS and some Apps built to run on it- services that have been fine tuned work well, but an every day OS is hard unless you're ready to spend time making it work.
