the compositor, at least in xfce if it causes fps drop you can turn it off

from all the DEs WMs i've tried i've come to the conclusion that for x i3 is the best / least trouble

workspace_layout tabbed
hide_edge_borders both

this

Jow Forumstards aren't people

i agree. i3 is easily the most polished wm but dwm's dynamic tilling is so good it makes me consider switching to it especially for my laptop

i dont hate gnome, i just like kde more

>71887618
weak bait

I unironically like GNOME

Ugly logo, mobile like UI

It's the lack of options with it that's the issue. The basic layout is great but it's still a bit clumsy in certain areas. I'm currently using Budgie and have it setup to be essentially enhanced Gnome.

For what it's worth, you shouldn't be using Xfce's default compositor anyways.

oliver said 4.12's compositor shouldn't have been released so you could say that it did not have any until now when 4.14 is released

buggy, unstable and resource heavy
i like how usable it is with just a keyboard though

>Why do people hate GNOME?
Because it's neither customizable nor lightweight. The antithesis of what your average Jow Forums Linux user wants. The attitude of their devs also doesn't help.
>It's comfy and reliable.
I agree.

just wanted to see if neofetch works in /code

>he uses firefox with Gnome instead of Epiphany
cringe

Why does Epiphany need to make so many requests when opening a blank page?

It's slow, bloated and difficult to use.

i use gnome just to install XFCE on a new machine. Hell even bloated KDE is more usable

It's a single threaded javascript piece of shit.
KDE has so much more options/configs by default while taking in less memory.
Also I don't want to enable this cancer.

If you like it then great! Use it. It's one window at t a time no desktop icons or applications no nothing way just doesn't suite me. I could probably use it on a smart-TV or something like that. It looks like a toy compared to real desktops. Even simple light desktop environments like LXQt and Xfce are far more advanced and feature-rich than GNOME yet GNOME uses more resources than both of those put together.

That most of the current GNOME developers use Mac OS X and iPhone's should tell you something. They would realize how unusable GNOME is if they actually used that crap.

It's interesting to note that the G in GNOME stands for GNU yet GNU Guix uses Xfce as the default desktop. That should tell you something about how far they've strayed away from GNU principles.
