The main question is: do you program outside of school? Just put anything you write on GitHub: small useful scripts you made for yourself, even dotfiles. They're mostly gonna skim through it, doesn't really matter what you code so long as you code. For an internship / entry-level job that's literally it my dude.
Cooper Edwards
Do your homework assignments, and upload them to github AFTER you get the grade. Do the same for quizzes and tests.
Also: Pick some projects that you like, fork them, modify what you like. And if you are really good, find a bug and fix it.

Why do white people make that face?

Do you like a browser extension? It probably has a repo.
Do you like indie games? Find a few on github.
Perhaps there are some light apps that you use? An image resizer? A music player?
Also: Be a horse that looks for water and drinks on its own. Google is free, bro.

thanks

dude, just post your programming home-works there.
Jason Davis
Just do anything with a REST api in your favourite language , weather , books , movies. I'd avoid native android and use a web for presentation if you're thinking about it. I did an android app for my project and setting up a recyclerview to load images from the api was hell , insane boilerplate. It works super fast and looks so good though.

this is just for sql so isn't this a bit overkill? what are some small little sql things you suggest?
Cooper Nelson
How do you not?
T. Self employed off their github, self taught

I already have 8 projects and one of them is screenshot tool I started writing when knew nothing about programming at all. I'm just interested in that stuff. Too pity I have no programming jobs where I live.
Gabriel Myers
Sorry dude, didn't read the SQL part. If it's SQL i guess it's going to be a backend job. Investigate and see what they use (Java , .NET most likely , or even older shit).
Usually when you work with DBs if it's old you'll probably use a library , set a connection , do a SQL query and extract a resultset that you iterate through and doing whatever with the data. There's the other way , that uses a ORM (object relational-mapping). Wich maps the tables to an object. If it's Java it's Hibernate , if it's microsoft it's entity framework.
I'd search for what the business in your area (or this one) uses , usually it'll be either Java or .Net.
I'd just make a throwaway project (just extract some data and show it on some table) using the old way , and another with the new one , using an ORM. Entity framework on Visual studio is easyer to setup than hibernate and you can focus on learning the concept of an ORM , both work almost the same once set up.
Ye dude , go back to plebbit because he posted something actually useful but used "leddit spacing". Go back to /b shitposting retard , or keep posting wojaks on hardware threads.

Literally anything. Random shell scripts you've written or modified to make life easier, forks of other projects that you genuinely feel you can improve upon... Basically just jam a ton of shit in there, come up with ideas that aren't shit and then get stackexchange to help you write them if you don't know how. Just make sure every commit is well written, follows good practices in terms of formatting and readability, and actually works. They'll eat that shit up.
