Want help? >State budget & CURRENCY >Post at least some attempt at a parts list >List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work >For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)
CPUs based on current pricing: >Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on most mobos with the right BIOS) >R3 2200G - Recommended minimum gaming >R5 2600 - Good gaming CPU with great value >R5 3600 - Great gaming CPU >R7 3700X - Overkill gaming CPU (9900K for spendthrifts) >R7 1700X - Budget video editing >R9 3900X - Professional tasks
RAM: >Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks ONLY for a typical dual channel CPU >CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 or Micron E-die ("AES" in code) recommended >AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP >B-die is EOL, stocks are limited
GPUs based on current pricing: 1080p >RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost >GTX 1660 - higher fps / more demanding games >RX 5700 - even higher FPS 1440p >RX 5700 - basic >RX 5700XT - standard >RTX 2070 Super - higher framerates in SOME games 2160p (4K) >RTX 2070S OC - budget option. Turing performance scales better into 4K than Navi does. >2080Ti - best for 4K but expensive
>Navi AIB models come mid-August. 5700 blower is alright, due to low power.
General: >PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING >Yes, adaptive sync (free/g/sync) is important >SSD Guide (250GB+ SATA bare minimums): i.imgur.com/79MYtoE.png >NVMe isn't better than SATA SSD for gaming >"Bottleneck checker" sites don't work >Don't use Speccy >AM4 VRMs + Monitors under "more"
I'm using 23" 1080p LG fullhd monitors that are around 150usd price range, been using one for 3+ years without problem and the second one for over a year. Great for long works, my eyes don't get tired, viewing angles are great.

Do any of you faggots know where I can get a free version of Linux by Thursday, so, I don't fail PhD test?
You can find 2060 on sale for that cheap, but the extra $50 for the RX 5700 is well worth it for a much better GPU. Vega56 I wouldn't get unless it's closer to $250.
There is an acer 1920x1200@75 4ms IPS for $110.

There are the new AMD APUs >Ryzen 3 3200G >Ryzen 5 3400G What about "3600G"? I heard some rumours about it, that it's supposed to have better GPU (and maybe more cores), but is such CPU really coming?
I literally see no reason to upgrade though. I will upgrade once I get a 1440p monitor but for 1080p 60fps I believe it's still good for years to come. Truly the 2500k of GPUs
Jason Richardson
How much volts are you guys sitting at idle?
My CPU never seems to downclock, always sitting at 4200mhz, already filled out the form on AMD's website.
Sitting at about 1,3v at the desktop doing nothing, quite high idle temps of 40-50c, bout 70 during CB.

is seasonic m12ii 620 evo still a valid option? it's pretty old by now
What CPU do you have and what cooler are you using?

I've been on 1440p for years even when I still had a 560ti but never really cared for maxing out games, just decent settings at 60fps. At 1440p you can turn AA to low or off on most games.
I guess it's good I don't play as much vidya as I used to or I'd be broke.
Austin Lee
>1440p >560ti kek

What's the cheapest card I can get that can run modern games on very high settings (not ultra) settings at 100+ fps 1440p, and older games at 144/1440? Also, are there any trustworthy sites which benchmark at high/very high settings instead of ultra? Correct me if I'm wrong but I figure ultra settings have diminishing returns.

2080ti or bust

I've been using the non evo version since 2011

970 going to 2070S soon, the combination of it with the 2500k isn't quite doing it for me anymore with my workload.

Want to move to a small form factor.
Changing motherboard, Case and PSU.
Currently on a 6500 with Evga 1060 6GB SC and 16GB 2133hz RAM (4x4).
>tfw Jow Forums made me fall for the AMD meme >b-but it's so much cheaper and so much better
400€ for Ryzen 3700x 200€ for optimal Ryzen RAM 200€ for the new x570 mobos because the old ones that are supposed to be compatible don't work for half of the people
Meanwhile I could have gotten an intel build: i7-9700K for the same price as 3700x cheap RAM below 100€ would be totally fine could easily get a 70€ motherboard that works perfectly
I don't know if you realize this, but IPS is not expensive. 1080p 60hz IPS monitors routinely go for around 100 or even less.

The lower numbers are better.

You're good, ignore the intcel shills.

pretty good but your mobo might restrain you if you OC that 3700x
Jose Lewis
5700xt/2070s/2080 and so on, check for reviews and tests if any in specific games, it's hard to say just like that since one option turned off can easily give you fps boost.
Austin Davis
>white mobo >white ram >black case >black gpu it's fine
>OC Zen 2 lel It won't though, a good 4 phase like Mortar is plenty even for a 12 core. They don't draw enough power to strain the VRM.
Tyler Rodriguez
How's the Asus Prime X470-PRO for 3700X? I'll get it with the BIOS already flashed. By reading the various motherboards Google Sheets comparison, it looks like it's good enough, albeit a slightly bit lower tier than the B450 Tomahawk for its VRMs. It looks they get pretty hot, but maybe I did read bullshit. I don't intend to OC, as boost does a better kob nowadays, but I might go 3900X in 3-4 years if moar cores are somehow needed (or its equivalent when the next Ryzens hit the markets). MSI's suffer too many problems at the moment, it seems, and I don't want to play lottery
ASUS are shockingly slow with AGESA updates. Otherwise it's fine though and I'm sure they will release 1.0.0.3ab eventually.
Aaron Garcia
it's good

Want an mATX board and torn between the Gigabyte B450 Aorus M and MSI B450M Mortar. Looking at a Ryzen 3600 this year, and maybe upgrading to the 3700x or 3900x in a few years after price drops. I've always blindly bought Gigabyte boards and been happy with them, don't particularly like switching to a different brand. MSI has better VRMs for a potential 3900x. I have 5 SATA drives so the Gigabyte has enough SATA ports; I would need to buy a PCI-E SATA controller card for the MSI The MSI BIOS design looks a bit shit leaving you only a small window for the actual options. Gigabyte is more basic and something I prefer. Just not sure which would be better for CPU and RAM overclocking and undervolting. The rear I/O on the MSI looks nicer MSI has BIOS flashback, but I don't mind gambling on BIOS version with the Gigabyte and getting a Athlon kit from AMD to update the firmware if it's too old. If anyone owns either of these baords and can comment on stability, overclocking, BIOS options, VRM temps, audio quality, I'd like to hear it.
It got multiple Agesa Bios updates if their driver/bios page is to be trusted asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRIME-X470-PRO/HelpDesk_BIOS/ Though it doesn't say which Agesa they're on, but I'm confident. As long as it boots, it's not much of a problem if I have to wait for the Boost to be perfectly operational.
Thanks, I might go with this one then.
Angel Myers
The MSI bios doesn't look like that anymore on those boards.
If they bring back saving profiles I'll probably prefer it.
Dominic Ramirez
wait for the new bioses in a couple of months

You can blame Jensen for the Nvidia "Super" branding.

i keep people talking about the importance of standoffs for mobos are they supplied in the case/mobo or are they to be bought separately?
Caleb Powell
go to microcenter can't beat the prices and services
Cameron Young
They're supplied with the case.

I am not seeing a b450 gaming pro carbon MAX model, is the lite bios not needed for it?
Colton Wilson
there appears to be no microcenter in the entire state of florida :D

ebay has the best prices on gpus by a wide margin as long as you don't need the newest model newegg usually has the best prices otherwise, and typically you'll get 1-2 parts from amazon for each build due to a sale price

Let me fix that for you, OP 1440p >RX 5700 - basic >RX 5700XT - standard >RTX 2070 Super - higher framerates in SOME games >RTX 2080 Super - overkill FPS in all but the most demanding Californian gay AAA flicks 2160p (4K) >RTX 2070 Super - budget option.
