They sell some of the best professional cameras that cost 10s of thousands of dollars. The people who buy these cameras are used to paying a lot for everything

>some of the best professional cameras
more youtubers maybe.

why do youtubers even buy red instead of 20k arri or sony rigs

They actually offer support for when the drive fails (eg. data recovery services). That is what you are paying for, not the hardware

Probably get them for free or discounted so they can shill it

When he opened CrystalDisk and it was the weeb version i died.

thanks annon, needed that laugh.

For the money they charge they should be selling drives with built-in redundancy, not relying on data-recovery.

yes, they ask quite alot for it, they are an A brand company and want those margins after all.
Offering users a choice and using common standards would be better, but it is a specialist market so it is easily exploitable.

Whenever people ask why it costs $50 million dollars to film a movie with no significant special effects, this is why.
They pay 1000% markup on flash media.
Who knows how much money they waste on every other aspect of production.

oh hello RED shill. less than 5% of users would ever need such an overpriced data recovery service, and even less if RED bothered to use SSDs that aren't garbage from Kingston or Innodisk. SSD recovery isn't expensive either.

>data recovery
>out of an SSD
If you're lucky the controller locked the memory into read only mode and you can just dd and mount the image on a loop device, if you're not then you won't be getting your data back anytime soon.

Professional equipment is overpriced.
More news at 11.

I was wondering why this guy puts so much effort into repeatedly proving RED wrong on every count, I realize he's the one making those yellow generic SSD carts, the very same ones RED threatens to sue him over.

Because their only real competition pulls the same shit.

youtube.com/watch?v=nqJXu4K1igg

Linus was absolutely based in this. Did his balls drop?

I see no less than 3 different companies shilling their garbage in this thread.

Red probably forgot to warn him as he was sucking them off and he accidentally got it in the eye

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 94K)

Dayum this is like hiring Brad Pitt but getting Johan Hill the day of the shooting

It's funny because Jinni.tech (OP video) overprices their SSDs too.

Attached: .png (924x484, 220K)

he's gotta cover those lawyer fees somehow

literally why the fuck couldn't they just take standard 2.5" SATA ssds?
They're already cartridge size.

You should really take your shilling operations over to reddit where they're more gullible, because it's not going to work here.

dude's retarded. RED is 100% wrong in the made in USA claim since the FTC regulates that. Jinni might be too with made in the UK but FTC doesn't regulate the UK, that so idk there. RED is also 100% wrong in marketing a 480GB drive as 512GB, even if overprovisioning is there.

Also, there is no special firmware in the SSD itself, only the cameras have whitelists for which SSDs to operate with, same as with what laptops OEMs do for wifi cards and shit. RED had absolutely no claim in their lawsuit since there's nothing proprietary in the SSD, only maybe the casing and the dumb $2 adapter, which neither would have patents for. You can tell how much Linus is still sucking off RED even in that video.

he has always been critical of red though, so i dont know what you're talking about

who give a fuck, this only scam rich idiot. they had money to burn anyway

buy blackmagic

So, like 2 drives? Wtf is built in redundancy?

Youtubers are spoiled pieces of shit. A 10 years old Canon 5d mark II could do the job for all their videos with shitty sets and lighting.

Can't believe Linus tech tips even bought the 8k version, talk about overkill. It must be a pain in the ass to edit and store theses Tb of garbage who will never be used again.

Wow I'm never going to buy a red camera after that video. how they can blatantly lie to try and cover up the enormous price gouging is pathetic.

Oh look, more flavor of the month outrage and shillery

This shit ain't new. People have talked about this shit for ages.
RED isn't the only group that does this shit.

Go to any professional industry, and you'll see this shit. Large Format Plotters/Printers that have regular x86 hardware in them, with off-the-shelf PC Parts. But if you call KIP to order a motherboard when it dies, it'll cost you $1200 for an LGA775 mobo that is $30+shipping on ebay.
Brand new Arcade Cabinet running the latest and greatest shooter from whomever? Great! GPU Die? Promise you that Raw Thrills is going to hit you with a $750 price tag for that GTX 650.
Medical Logger that saves shit to SD Card? Surely that 1GB Toshiba SD Card that has a JCM sticker on it isn't expensive? Oh, you lost it and need a 1:1 replacement before the service tech will repair it after it fell? Congrats. That branded, off-the-shelf, unfettered with SD Card is $1,100. But the service tech won't honor the warranty until he's got that, not the $4 4GB card off amazon.

Stop helping that faggot sell his over-priced SSDs. Ain't nobody whose mad about this shit can afford RED's cameras anyway. He's just using ya'll to trick the few Schools or Prod companies gullible enough to listen, into buying his shit.

It's a product designed for Apple therefore you are not simply buying hardware, you are buying an philosophy and lifestyle.

The minimag is 1450$ now and called 480gb

red.com/builder/options?brain=2315

Why don't people just buy Blackmagic

psh, how can you be tacticool with your generic micron shit box

im bustin out that mini-mag like im reloading a futuristic assault rifle with memory bullets makes me feel like a professional bro

either some weird autistic shit that won't transfer to their youtube videos
or they just want to justify spending thousands of thousands of dollars for having the "standard"

This is apple tier of marketing, morons will buy their products because if their name and won't look at the competition or even consider it
Everything that red sells is smoke and mirrors.

There can be various reasons.

Blackmagic doesn't make an 8k Camera
They have less dynamic range
120fps at 2K instead of 4K
12bit instead of 16bit color
different ingestion and conversion softwares
The base Ursa Mini is heavier than most "base" REDs
Different accessories, attachments, modules, gimbals, frames, hard-points, mounts, and more.

IDK why every specific owner chose a RED over BM, Arri, Sony, Canon, Panasonic, or other Cinema/Broadcast quality Cameras

>best professional cameras

They are ripping off people by rebranding chink shit as their own and piecing them together. Now the chinks have wised up and are now making serious attempts going after RED. Look at the equivalent amount of quality you get for literally fractions. All RED still has left is the high end and the chinks are closing in fast.

youtube.com/watch?v=CjoX_fMEUWI

RED are designed for a full team of people working, while the Blackmagic is more prosumer hardware.

This is like when I started video editing on DV tape and a professional dv vcr cost 2000 dollars while a 300 dollar dv camera did everything it could in addition to being a fucking camera. "pro" gear is a joke

Attached: d23d76239d8f0f6782db26c54ec04988[1].jpg (500x257, 25K)

Which is why Blackmagic gear is often used in broadcasting?

yes you fucking retard, in fact, for this price, make it 4

Next you'll be telling me Apple is making a very healthy profit on every device sold.

broadcasting =/= movie or even pre recorded.

because they're retards. you're not supposed to buy those $100k cameras, you rent them.

The thing I'm trying to argue is that Blackmagic isn't designed for a "full team of people working" while Broadcast work in it's core is a highly integrated workload where a large group of people and equipment has to work at once on a single project usually in real time.

>>$2500 + Tax + Tip
nice try, but you forgot + delivery fee
would you like to buy insurance for that too? maybe an extended warranty? sure would be a shame if it never got delivered.

good
fuck all these meme companies

this.
No other manufacturer advertises unusable space, including Micron the ones who make the actual SSD.
Manufacturers may use base 10 instead of base 2 and that's commonly accepted because it's how consumers understand storage.
When you say 1GB you can mean 1,024 megabytes or 1000 megabytes.
Unusable flash storage is not the same.

It would be like AMD advertising the disabled cores on its processors.
If it's not usable it not okay to describe it as such because consumer law is dictates based on how suitable a product is for its intended use.

the thing you need to understand is that those SSDs are hot swappable and were tested for that use case. imagine filming a scene with a million dollar budget and your 200 dollar SSD fails. that's why it costs more. it's like complaining about quadros. they cost that much because of quality control, no memes aside. yes it's ovepriced but there's no alternative with as much QC. same with intel xeons and so on.

repeat, i'm not saying they're well priced, just that there is NO alternative. a samsung ssd isn't, because it's not meant to be detached repeatedly or on constant max load.

But they are literally off-the-shelf consumer SSDs.
An enterprise Samsung SSD would be much more reliable. And according to RED themselves, they have to do data recovery on their customer's failed mini-mags all the time.

they are fucking usb, all of them are hot-swappable. kill yourself.

>the thing you need to understand is that those SSDs are hot swappable
Yes, SATA SSDs are hot swappable.

No one in the movie industry even uses RED shit. Maybe 3 movies use that shit but it's usually ARRI, Panavision, or film.

literally just having two regular-ass 2.5" bays in raid1 would be safer than one of these, and allow for replacement while operating

Attached: proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg (500x500, 26K)

they are the oracle equivalent of the cameras

aka

"what the fuck are you gonna do about the 47k we ask per core?"
