Pro-Ject Essential (Original Release)

I bought a Philips 22GA406 for my mother. But she has 45 rpm 12"s (mainly Nimbus) and the stupid thing wont let you override its auto detection easily.

yeah, a cheap chink one though

Yes. I use a hitachi one, HT-L33, but I'm thinking about getting other models too, like an HT-L303 from the same manufacturer.

Realistic lab-420 (not pictured) with a Grado black and at95e cartridges.

I got the pro-ject Essential 2 a few years ago and it's been great.
Paired it with the MaiA S2 amp and Q Concept 20's
Best sound I've heard before going into the $10K+

Is that a real product? What's the deal with the spoke nut thing?

Technics SL-10 with 310MC cartridge.

I've been a linear tracking kinda guy for 34 years now.

it clamps the record down to the platter, presumably dampens vibrations and makes changing records pain in the ass.

I don't get the point of linear tracking.
Wouldn't the mechanical action just add interference? Plus it just adds another point of failure

Yamaha p-700.

I'm using some old Marantz model, TT251 with an OMT stylus
It's pretty good desu, gets the job done.

Records are cut using linear tracking so not only is interference not an issue but the needle follows the grooves in the optimal fashion with no azimuth errors whatsoever. That player is 40 years old and still works perfectly as it's very well built. They were phased out mostly due to cost as vinyl entered its twilight years in the 80s.

used to use an LP120, but I prefer using a laptop w/ DJ controller w/ mixxx.
If you like scratching try a vinyl control, I know serato works with mixxx w/ an interface.

From what I remember, the whole point of linear tracking is to eliminate the arc that most tonearms cause the stylus to follow. For some reason that I can't remember, this would somehow make sound reproduction better, but since many of the turntables where the design was implemented were aimed to be affordable to the average Joe, there were cost cutting measures that sort of negated the benefits. There are some high end tone arms that are still being made that are linear tracking tone arms where they try to eliminate the issues with exotic fixes like mounting the arm on an air bearing, but these arms have high production costs due to them having really low tolerances for manufacturing inconsistencies.

I used to have a Pioneer PL-530, fucking beautiful turntable. But since then I've switched to CDs.

tracking error caused by tonearm geometry.
Some geometries have high level of distortion at the groove end and than people think that LP sound bad at the end but this is actually because tonearm geometry and not because of vinyl

I own several nice ones but I mainly listen to SACDs on my Onkyo DV-SP1000 and my CD players with the Philips TDA1540/1541 DACs, no other DAC can exceed their sound quality even though both have been out of production for over 25 years.

Nice. When I bout my Technics SL-D3, it came with a Grado cartridge. Although I decided to replace it with an Ortofon 2M Red because the needle was worn and the cartridge itself was no longer manufactured.
