I wouldn't go as far as "fuck the troops", but yeah they get way too much "respect points" for having a uniform on. Its a dangerous job, and maybe they do it because they feel they want to help the country out, but most people join the military because of the free schooling or benefits, or to escape poverty, not out of altruism. There are other dangerous jobs which also contribute to our country that no one gives a fuck about. Teachers make pennies but work as teachers in order to educate the next generation. Many of them could get jobs that pay more just by virtue of having a degree but they choose to stay as a teacher. I don't see anyone tripping over themselves to thank teachers for their service or give them discounts. And that's just one example. Not to mention how indignant soldiers get when they feel like you aren't licking their boots enough for having served.

I didn't mean to imply being a teacher is more dangerous than being a soldier, those were different points. Now that I think about it, with all the school shootings, being a teacher isn't automatically a very safe job anymore though.

in my state, maryland if you want a pistol you have to give fingerprints to the feds, take courses to get a loicense and undergo a background check for criminal record and mental health issues. you don't have to do this with rifles or scatgats. some rifles and shotguns are banned though, however.
