How the fuck do you guys organize all your saved pictures? Shit starts overlapping, how do you determine what goes where.
>Anime Folder >Wallpaper Folder
>Downloads an Anime wallpaper
Does user put the anime wallpaper inside of the anime folder or the wallpaper folder? Does user make a subfolder in wallpapers, called anime wallpapers? And therefor only using the anime folder for stuff that isn't wallpapers?
How the fuck do you guys do this shit, redpill my autistic ass
Extended attributes allow for adding arbitrary metadata to files through the filesystem. You can tag files using xattrs and then sort them that way, Dolphin and Finder support this, i'm unsure about Explorer or gnome's "files." Linux added support for extended attributes in 2002. OS X added support in 2005. Using file tags allows you to look up files by their tag using filesystem data (faster than embedded file data like jpeg tags) the implementation of which depends on the filesystem. You can tag files as "anime," "wallpaper," or both at the same time then do a search for those tags or use your file managers features to add a shortcut/smart folder to the search. A more advanced solution would involve using a database system, which will scale better, but is overkill for most people.

I just realized that the only organized folders in my PC are my /cm/ folder and my Yotsuba folder. Everything else is a mess.
Christopher Collins
Anyone use this on linux? Looks interesting.
Sebastian Cook
I was looking at it a while back, but it seemed like you need to have it running all the time, no?
Like you can tag everything, but if I moved all the files to another computer and didn't have hydrus up, then it would all be for nothing.
Unless I got the wrong impression? If so please redpill me.

100-200 pics max per dir
Julian Wright
what happens when you get to that limit but want to add more?
>Photos>Cars>200pics
Then do you make a Cars(2)?
>Photos>Cars(2)>200pics
filled
>Photos>Cars(3)>200pics
etc
Michael Jenkins
hardlinks to each category.

make a new [sub]dir eventually i might move all cars in their own dir if they're many

this is actually a decent alternative to tagging. unfortunately, gui file managers don't make it real easy. the upside is that it is probably the most efficient file-based method, and you won't lose the "tags" if you transfer the files to a new disk or use a crappy editor that strips tags.

Wtf ur a genius bro!
I'm glad I enabled extended attributes on my partitions before hand.
Jose Ward
Do yourself a favor and delete anime shit, you need to grow up.
Carson Barnes
any image can be a wallpaper you dumb fuck
Ryan Jackson
Tried it a year ago and it kept crashing
Josiah Butler
Using it for more than a year and it works fine
Yes, it keeps all your pics in it's own folder (and use their hash as a name) and you only get them through the client by searching tags If you change computer you copy your hydrus folder (the pics + the hydrus databases), or you can host your own personal tag server or something It's basically 's "more advanced solution"
It can be a little intimidating at first and it has a shit ton of things you might never use (ratings, tags namespaces, downloaders, duplicate finder, remote tag servers etc) but it's great once you know how to use what you need
Mason Perez
I don't even understand why you have a dedicated anime folder, what is the pupose of it? I get the wallpapers folder, it's used for slideshow wallpapers, if you want the Anime wallpaper be your wallpaper then obviously put it in your wallpapers folder
If we're referring to the thousands of images for Jow Forums shitposting, I don't organize them in folders at all.I just give them names that act as keywords and filter for what I want.
I'll never understand the people who keep default save names that are just a string of numbers though. Fuck that.
Nathan Evans
I tried that at first, but every time I give a name to a picture, my autism tells me "no, that doesn't fit quite well". I find it easier to let a non-descriptive number be the name. The pictures speak for themselves

Jayden Lewis

>How the fuck do you guys organize all your saved pictures? By date. It's not very useful for finding anything but it's quick and easy. Given that I'll probably never look at any of them again it's not a problem. The other way, with more usefulness, is by size.

I just download shit and move them into a trash folder, I'm lazy to organize everything. Once I tried, took an hour just to separate shit from anime and normal memes, then by show. Never again. I'd rather just have them by reactions
Owen King
>I'll probably never look at any of them again Then don't fucking save them, genius. It defeats the purpose of saving in the first place.
