Fresh CS grad

>fresh CS grad
>zero internship xp and no GitHub
>applied to 5 junior developer jobs
>got all 5 offers
It still amazes me how there are some people here who apply to 100s of jobs. Are you fags ugly or what? Consider plastic surgery. Kek

I did all that without paying for a CS degree.
You're a huge fag.

Not everyone is in Canada where CS graduates are in high demand. Well done chad.

>replying to bait without sage
Who's the fag here?

What company? Pay?
Show us your resume.

what city/area and what salary? most people don't bother applying to something like a position in SF that pays 65k given that's fucking unlivable, even though you'd get a job pretty quick if you applied to shit like that.

Do you didn't. You probably worked in the same place for ages and eventually go promoted because everyone felt guilty.

satania porn is the worst porn. reminder.

Im op without the offers, can anyone help me? I would really like some advise :(

Speak for yourself looser.....

not gna lie plastic surgery does fucking help. ive had prob 40k in my face and it makes a difference, lul

I’m in Cali. Pay is $70k plus comp with a mid sized company. I’m living with my parents so my rent will basically be 0 Kek.

You’ll eventually reach a point where you won’t be able to progress further without a college degree. So practice saying “would you like fries with that, Sir”, when that eventually happens

Nice try but nope. Got myself an education.

I don't understand. How did you get the job if you don't have any experience? Are they understaffed? What is your GPA?

fuck you

3.2 GPA
I passed the online coding tests and nailed the interviews by actually getting along with the interviewers really well. Tech companies are always understaffed but too many autists and retards apply

Easy, because he's lying.

70K in cali for someone with a cs degree really is nothing to brag about desu, but if you've got no rent to pay it aint bad, good job user

this makes the csfags seethe

My first job was 60k near DC are. 3 years later Im at 125k or so total comp. First job salary isnt too important

Where are you stuck?

- Not getting interviews? Fix your resume.
- Not getting offers? Improve your interview skills.

>How did you get the job if you don't have any experience?
There are entry-level jobs that pay less, but take in candidates with limited (on no) exp.

I have some interviews but not many, the thing is how do I get more interviews because I haven't worked before... I'm scared to lie on it and I'm too honest, never really did any "projects" per se but I'm always learning random stuff (like learning) and I'm actually competent but hard to prove

i don't disagree, but coming on here to brag about how you easily got a pretty low paying job is silly

>how do I get more interviews
Whatever your local jobsearchingsite.com is, put your resume there. Look for internships, even free ones. That is how you build experience.

>never really did any "projects" per se
Then start tomorrow!

>Then start tomorrow!
I know this the typical response but I don't have anything I'm genuinely interested in, I like programming but the field is too broad and I am only a graduate so I dont have any particular expertise in anything specific, I make simple scripts for things that make my life easier but thats as technical as it gets, I don't really have a proper use case for any huge enterprise software

>Look for internships, even free ones. That is how you build experience.
>lol dude just whore yourself out to companies for free
do not do this

Is Canada really like that?

Go to github, pick any simple indie game, browser extension, image resizer, media player, or what have you. Modify it, remove something from it that you don't like, add something new, and voila! You have now added something to your portfolio.

you can't just do that shit. you have to get it approved and put upstream.

Are you a nigger, a spic, or a faggot?

yes

He's saying fork something for a portfolio project
I don't think this is impressive at all and some people would think it's fraudulent to present it without caveat as a project of yours

what kind of dev job is it?
low level or web design?

I don't know any new grads in CS making less than 90k...

Yeah. Big vacuum due to citizens leaving to the states. Meanwhile companies here are run by Canadians with families, and pernament residents who are fairly intelligent.

T. Canadian citizen that left his company to work for an American company remotely, making big bucks (130k cad 1 year out of graduation)

Attached: mpvshot0025.jpg (1280x542, 157K)

Can confirm Canada isn't like that; they only give you free jobs if you're a Syrian refugee.

i know some outside of tech hubs that make like 70 or 80, but that goes really far in mid-sized cities

i certainly don't know anyone making less that 90k in commiefornia though, that's barely a living wage there

They don't pay you the same as their onsite guys in Cali do they?

People only pay you enough to convince you to move from your best alternative offer. In Seattle they pay software devs 140 US and up, all in all im 100 us (130 cad) but that puts me at the top 3 percentile in my city, and my rent is like 900 usd

Doesn't matter anywhoo, I'm going to be a senior software developer at by 27 regardless

Attached: 1543520772861.png (1080x1920, 2.18M)

I see more and more Bay Area companies opening Vancouver offices to take advantage of incels here who want to stay around their family or whatever reasons they have to stay. And they save half in payroll so that's cool too
Your job sounds cool but I'd go to the Bay Area asap for that big raise, I don't even care about remote vs onsite. The only difference to me would be if you're a profitable daytrader or something and being able to trade on the side during the day makes up the difference or more
What are the best companies that offer remote work you've seen?

Unicorn startups that are based out of Seattle/bay area that can't compete with the big boys' salary offers are the ones offering remote work. Tbh I haven't started yet so I don't know how full remote goes, so we'll see.

You're right though, I'm a cuck for not going to Seattle/bay/Austin and putting all my savings into crypto. It's easy enough with TN status and as a Canadian educated citizen, they'll pay upwards to 50k for relocation. However I need to wait for my wife to get her MBA so she's TN status eligible as well. Then I buy a cottage in Perth and a home in rockcliffe and work as a highly paid government consultant so I can spend time with kids

>senior software developer at by 27

fyi "senior" is a bs modifier given to anyone with two years of experience at most companies. comes with a small pay bump usually at least

the us job market is much better than canada and pays more too

How do I get an 'extreme-elite' job?

Attached: EXTREME.png (735x787, 671K)

I meant to say senior software developer at Facebook, Amazon, or Google. Senior anywhere else doesnt mean anything

I interviewed at xtx 2 years ago. I can tell you about their interview process if you want.
I was an oxford phd in stats. no job experience at the time, which was what eventually disqualified me.

ah well in that case cheers, m8, let the money roll in

>oxford phd
jesus fucking christ... alright i won't bother
i do have 4 years of exp tho

I would say yea you probably don't want to bother even trying. I did over 3-5 hours of phone interviews involving solving pdes over the phone. they expected me to mentally integrate functions and then accurately describe them within a few minutes. it was pretty exhausting. I also had to go through variations of the 8 queens puzzle:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_queens_puzzle
and solve generalizations, again over the phone. that was years ago too, they've become more selective since then. one thing I will say is they gave me very detailed feedback and offered reading. they were mostly russian guys.
they also expected me to prove some fundamental theorems. I hadn't really worried about proofs since undergrad so took a lot of time doing it and they said that one of the reasons I was disqualified was that although I eventually did prove the theorems I took too long.

Show resume.

jesus fucking christ. And I thought I had it bad with the multi step software developer interviews. 8 Queens over the phone? Did they expect you to live code it?

I can't remember exactly what I was asked, I remembered mostly from looking up the email where he talks about some parts of the solution in his explanation on why he rejected me, but I believe I had to prove that a solution existed, and then he wanted me to describe the problem in 3 dimensional space and then to generalize into n dimensional space as well as to talk about the issues in n dimensional space. it was too long ago I can't remember. I remember when he asked it thinking holy shit this is just unfair though, I know that before we got to that point I had answered problems really fast and maybe he was just trying to find something I couldn't do instantly. I had been studying a lot of quant interview questions for jane street, tower research, de shaw, etc, so he probably figured out that I knew the answers too quickly to really be figuring them out for the first time.
one of the integrals I ended up wasting time on was also due to his accent and I couldn't hear what he was describing so I just kept trying to agree so we could move on to the next question but instead it ended up hurting me because I didn't get the information right and spent way too long before giving him what he wanted.

I've heard of one company that has a more ridiculous interview process than XTX (barring Renaissance Technologies but let's not go there).

varchev.com/en/the-quants-run-wall-street-now/

They hired a former Microsoft/Yandex researcher who came first in the International Math Olympiad in 2000.

You talk like it's a big accomplishment but in France you basically choose where you are going to work if you are not retarded. The educative system just can't produce enough developers.

I have an undergrad in computer science, but I'm getting pretty old with 3 years of software development experience at 24. Do you think it's even worth trying to compete with autistic, younger individuals? I would do a master's degree while working full time, and then a PhD. My parents both did their PhDs while working. I realize that the competition at this level is bound primarily by genetic factors.

I'm really interested in the the application of statistics + systems development. I'm a strong software developer, but I'm rusty at my math. Also, my undergrad grades aren't amazing due to the fact that I worked full time + did school full time. I'm guessing I'm just asking for advice.

For those companies the best way to get hired is to get headhunted. I was working at a FANG-level company and had a few offers from the likes of Two Sigma but turned them down because I didn't enjoy the culture. I've been involved in a startup that was acquired and I will continue to work in this space. Quant trading jobs are pretty autistic and the pay isn't THAT great unless you're at a top, top-level company.

Oh and for the record I only have a Bachelor's in Math.

I mean, entry level jobs tend to pay low considering the cost of living of some areas. You wont be offered a 6 figure salary anywhere straight out of school.

I learned how to feign ignorance of answers to algorithmic questions. I will always provide a less optimal solution, and then build upon it to the optimal one - even if I have the optimal one memorized. Another thing I'll do is provide the suboptimal solutions to them by talking over it, eventually reaching the optimal one.

Fuck morals lmao

Next step FANG it is. Tbh why would I get a PhD/MSc if I could just work at the big jewg, it's just as good depending on what the you're doing.

>You’ll eventually reach a point where you won’t be able to progress further without a college degree. So practice saying “would you like fries with that, Sir”, when that eventually happens
cope, you wasted 4 years of your life for $70k starting, that's actually sad af

He's right. Every job I've gotten has requirede to have a degree, and did a background check on it. Enjoy working as pic related

Attached: janitor.jpg (1920x2560, 1.08M)

Yep, go work at FANG for a few years and start your own gig or at least a place where you can get equity.

I'm actually a front-end engineer. With no experience and no projects to speak of, it's no wonder fresh CS grads get relegated to $70k jobs — even bootcamp brainlets are landing at least $85k starting these days. But you won't get those college years and debt back so you better hone your coping strategies.

This is the real answer. Anyone that disagrees with this hasn't worked a job and hasn't seen the droves of autists who apply

Why don't you just have her on TD status in the meantime?

be literally autistic, like that guy in "The Accountant"

I remember going to a group interview and seeing how many pajeets and fob asians were part of my cohort. many barely knew fuck all and some couldn't get a sentence out in english.

I didn't pay anything for my CS degree.
Got a job on the very first interview.

That's genuinely sad. I've seen people like that too at a recent interview. One of the fob Asians who barely spoke English actually got it on the spot because he finished the coding challenge (which was more like make the company's software in 8h). The pajeet pajeets are bad and smell but the American ones are quite smart. Bro-tier desu and they work hard.

>make the company's software in 8 hours
I've noticed this more and more. It's bullshit. Considering how many companies I've applied to, it's unrealistic for them to start giving these one-day coding tasks that are using applicants as free labor.

Before long we're going to see this instead of paid internships, just applications that require weeks of labor.

And the autists here will do it just like you're doing it now. They deserve being exploited.

>front-end engineer
lmao

>I-I was only pretending!

>You wont be offered a 6 figure salary anywhere straight out of school.

untrue, big companies in SF will put out six figures for new grads, but with the cost of living there it doesn't go *that* far

Attached: IMG_0171.gif (480x286, 1.71M)

Are you a bootcamp grad? Which bootcamp did you take? How'd you land your job and which language?

>Are you fags ugly or what?
this actually kills careers

Yea they offer remote work because they can't compete on salary and benefits. Small meme start ups I feel is easy to get trapped into 10 hour days since you are exempt from overtime pay. Bigger companies tend to have better work life balance and better benefits. I immediately clock out after 8 hours and whatever is on my plate can wait until the next day.

>engineer
>applied to 70 jobs in last 5 weeks

mechanical?

my first job after graduating sucked. $48k in sacramento doing full stack web dev with pajeets.

If you enjoy half the pay.

iTODDLERS BTFO

So you either live in Europoor land or a fly over state right?

post your resume

lmao. are you white?

did they discriminate against you

Interviewing kids straight out of college is a pain. If you don't have intern experience, it's hard for me to get excited that you worked on some toy projects in school and that's all you have on your resume

Attached: 1563041526617.jpg (326x326, 27K)

yeah im white, but I wouldnt say I was discriminated against. The guy I was replacing said he was only being paid $44k. I think the company was just indian run and they were trying to run the cali branch just like the india office.

I was the only white guy on the team of like 12 people and during meetings they would randomly just start talking hindi like my opinion didn't even matter. Whatevs, I wasnt paying attention anyway so this part wasnt bad.

The part that made me quit was the daily meetings with the india team. We'd get on a call at 8:30pm every day and usually it went to 9:30 or sometimes 10:30. This is in addition to your regular work day.

Eventually they changed those to morning meetings, at 5:30 in the fucking AM. That and he started calling me up on the weekend to fix bugs. I quit without notice shortly after. Kinda funny how when you're ready to quit they're suddenly willing to fix all the problems you had, but by then its too late. You cant just threaten to quit and not do it.

that isn't you, that's from some resume thread a few weeks ago

if you're going to post a template resume, atleast find one that hasn't been spammed on this board a million times
