Did they?

they didn't, schools are buying them like crazy, and frankly I would buy one for my grandparents because they just work and won't get easily infected

Google couldn't into desktop
Microsoft couldn't into mobile

Normally you would have expected Chrome OS to have taken a large share of the market.
>Made by GOOGLE
>Literally just works
>Free

because they cost 3x as much as they should

Too many x86 shit models.

They're fantastic work machines. I've gotten almost 20 hours out of a single charge on this.

I've been looking at buying thinkpad q11 because thay're 50 bucks and putting normal linux on it
should I?

What do you mean they dominate education and the low end laptop market.

Which device do you have?

The ARM versions sucked pretty bad.

the models with a decent screen had like 4gb ram and 32gb storage, but costed more than some macbooks
the rest were entirely uncompetitive in the consumer market and unusable for business thanks to their deep connection with google+lack of windows software compatibility. That leaves the academic market, which loves them

Lenovo C330. The average battery life is 15 hours from 100% but on the one-off occasion I don't use the network, I get 18+ hours (almost 20 at one point).

> c720 running perfectly for 4 years, use it every single day, best electronic device I have ever purchased in my life.

Don't talk to me or my son ever again.

Why did OP's shilling attempt fail so hard?

>incognito
user, I...

For the average consumer the cpu is so shit that even people who know nothing about electronics don't wanna buy it.
This, my little brother's high school gave everyone a chromebook. Its just because they are really cheap and buying them in bulk makes them a lot cheaper.

What exactly do you mean when the usage of chromebooks is increased every year lol

>25% of the US notebook market 2018

That's FUCKING impressive. Applel have been trying for decades and has been stuck in their pitiful 5-10%.

Install light weight linux, why do I need a Thinkpad?

He just doesn't want to have to clear his history everytime he has finished watching porn

>best electronic device I have ever
a fucking netbook

holy shit google drone you wouldn't hav bought it if it wasn't googleTM

they didn't advertise the fact that Chrome OS was a fork of gentoo enough

>Why did Chromebooks fail so hard?
wut?

>not wiping everything after you close a tab
user, i....

can't you use android apps on chromebooks? i'd use clover instead of that.

Aplel have all the profits though.

Lol you seriously think I use chromeOS on this thing? It has SeaBIOS and I immediately installed Arch on it as soon as I received it. The fact that it is Google-branded is irrelevant. This thing is light, has an i3 (instead of the dingy Celerons they put in other chromebooks, and atoms in netbooks), has insane battery life, has the form factor I want, and does literally anything I can do on a desktop save for muh gaymes. And even then, it runs EvE Online well enough to get things done.

For cost/performance/longevity, I have never owned something that even comes close. No Windoze tax, easy to replace battery/SSD. My ONLY gripe is that the RAM is soldered-on, but for my intents and purposes 4gb has been plenty.

i would unironically use chrome os instead of linux on my personal laptop if it had like ides run natively
it just works, is polished and works really fast
in fact i spent ages trying to make it work but its just really hard to get ides to run without that laggy crostini shit

>Chromebooks fail
no, they didn't.

All of this so much. I realize this isn't exactly science but I run a few websites. Chrome OS (CrOS) is the by far most common user-agent on immortalpoetry.com/ which is not what you typically see - but that site is overwhelmingly visited by educational institutions. Lots of 20-30 visitors looking at the same poem within 2 minutes (=school class) indicate that a lot of schools are buying these for all their students (either that or mandating that students buy them?).

On a personal note, I actually have a 13.3" running Linux (easy to replace). The reason I bought it was that it had a IPS screen (and decent speakers, but that was less important) at $190. There's still plenty of laptops at the $1000 price-point with low-quality TN panels. Limited CPU power and RAM rules out using it for video editing and things like that. It's absolutely great for video and web browsing and things like that. Also, it's fanless and that's very nice.

i'm annoyed that google are fucking up chromeOS

like the whole point of the chromebooks were they were lean and mean. literally nothing but a bare linux and a browser on top of it, so you got blazing performance from something you could buy with pocket money. the only file browser was finding the Downloads folder.

now they're shitting them up with android apps and that fucking redesign to make it more touch-friendly for tablets and it's garbage. just garbage. fucking brainworm-ridden engineers just can't ... i dunno leave shit alone that just fucking works already

They didn't, it's just that Google is failing to appeal to people beyond tech illiterates that only need a browser to work and the ability to connect to a printer.
It's pretty much used exclusively in a lot of K-12 schools that don't have computer labs / need access to a bunch of computers when the only computer lab is in use, or don't allow kids to be in computer labs in earlier years.
At least in my district. Schools around here had a cart full of laptops they wheeled into different classrooms who needed it either for writing or research time. At first they were thinkpads. Little brother says they use chromebooks now.

>Google is failing to appeal to people beyond tech illiterates
i think its the exact opposite, they're dumb and completely out-of-touch in their silicon valley ivory tower

> incognito

No full native support for android apps.

Slow, bloated webshit. Fisher price UIs. Botnet tracking everything you do. Computing hell.

I use one for cheap fanless websurfing, because Windows 10 runs like absolute shit on equivalent hardware and breaks something with every patch, but Chrome OS runs fine.

hasnt failed for me
i currently have one atm
its comfy

>hey, user can I check my mails on your chromebook?
>step sis nigger gang train bukkake

i dont get it, are both things said out loud

>hey, user can I check my mails on your chromebook?
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
>oh what is dis
>step sis nigger gang train bukkake

They didn't. They've been a massive success due to their simplicity and low cost.

It's a chromebook, you can either log in with your google account or use a guest one whats wrong with him using a guest account?

The question is why do alot of schools use chromebooks

Much Like Your Mother!!!!!!

lost it

Aren’t most Chromebooks very low performance even with their low front end?

What are good powerful Chromebooks?

They probably have a budget to use and buy the cheapest shit possible or maybe somebody gets some benefits

Yeah thats probably true

Keep feeding the brainbug goys.

People still want personal computers, not terminals.

>cheap
>easily repaired/replaced
>managed accounts
>built in backup/cloud printing/basic office suite
>peace of mind on parents' part

> 1366 x 778
Why is this still a thing?

They didn't. You're just out of touch or willingly ignorant. Schools love Chromebooks because they're dirt cheap and can take a beating. Shit Asus even made a rugged tablet running ChromeOS. Then there's the fact that Google made their own office suite entirely free AND gave free Google drive storage to everyone. They gave me a 1TB Google drive when I got my CB. Lastly, ChromeOS is a heavily altered fork of Gentoo, so security is fantastic. Combine all of this with an amazing battery life and SSD flash storage as the standard, you have an best seller.

Doesn't hurt that you can natively run Android apps now too.

>You're just out of touch or willingly ignorant
can't it be both

>web pages masquerading as desktop apps
Absolutely disgusting

Seriously what's a Chromebook that isn't running a Celeron and is worth getting

Pixelbook is $1000 for fuck's sake

you dont need an overclocked i7 and 420tb of ram if youre buying a chromebook

Name a single thing you need power in a Chromebook for. It's not like you can run any majorly intensive programs like video editing. The entire point of the CB is low power, long battery life, and decent panels.
>Inb4 removing write protection and installing some autistic *Nix distro

I have one of these as my new work machine. Sure the functionality is a little less than a Chromebook but it isn't that far behind. I've never had to charge it even once since I got it though.

>babby UI

My school blocked Jow Forums on there chromebooks because they thought it was a porn site

that seems reasonable imo

It was hilarious

ChromeOS is the most successful consumer desktop Linux distro in the world.

>the year of the linux desktop is here!

I still dont know shit about that fucking penguin i see everywhere

Can't get infected with a keylogger if there is already one

Attached: Bullu.jpg (570x387, 31K)

It's a great device for old people.

You have a legit, non-meme, Dell Precision sitting there and you're using the botbook....

>Why did Chromebooks fail so hard?
Same reason netbooks failed. They were a knee-jerk reaction to something that looked like it was going to be big.

C720 master race checking in, although the first thing I did was cut those LEDs out.

it's a good gentoo-based secondary computer if you just need a cheap netbook and don't want to deal with the inefficiency of windows, the expense of osx, or the driver issues of linux on most netbooks

> ability to connect to a printer
except it doesn't have that unless it's a Google Cloud Printer.

Im dying Lauren

But iShit is so overpriced that apple made a lot more money. Sounds smarter to me.

To get 20 hours of battery life; you stupid or something?

Who the fuck are buying these shits?

me

My dad and I got one for my mom, and it works perfectly for her. YT + email + news is all she does.

>fuck windows botnet
>fuck macos kiddy shits
>literally use a botnet OS google made for toddlers
The fucking state of fa/g/gots

Most printers are network connected.

I was thinking about getting one

then I got a macbook

1. Locked firmware but vary few.
2. uses non-free out of tree ethernet NIC and wifi/bluetooth chip like realtek+broadcom
3.moved away from SSD unless older models
4.non upstreamed GPU blobs that are cross compiled to chromeOS
5.most are ARM which isn't so bad now but most software needs to be recompiled to ARM if it's not in the repos already.
6.bad batteries that aren't changable
7.soldered RAM and CPU.
CPu is kind of understandable I supposed although I wish we could have a standardized ARM SOC zif socket but the soldered RAM sucks.

you need to calm down

The average consumer doesn't know the difference between their head and their ass, let alone really, really cares about the cpu in a fucking netbook.

Turns out you can't do everything in a browser

> I was thinking about getting one
> Then I overpaid for a shiny UI on top of BSD.

Attached: 2-e3c902ccc020.png (620x970, 418K)

turns out you can do pretty much everything in a browser

C720 checking in, decided to fuck around with it, literally destroyed the cooler and it still runs googlet fisher price edition somehow magically, considering getting a shit chink 64GB mSD or whatever and
>installing Gentoo

>The average consumer doesn't know the difference between their head and their ass, let alone really, really cares about the cpu in a fucking netbook.
>it doesn't have a i series
>must be bad lol
consumers know that i3/5/7 is good, and the higher the better

public schools are buying them for students bc they're cheap as shit and generally toys.

Can anyone recommend a way to improve loading times on my Samsung Chromebook 3? I know it has a shitty Celetron and shit, but it shouldn't be performing worse than my desktop from 2008 with no graphics card.

That Samsung Notebook Flash seems like a best buy for me

Precision provided by my work for work, C720 for personal use.

And that Precision in the photo? Dead. Tried using a different power adapter out of the work supply closet one day and the fucking thing just spun its fans. Had to pull the battery out for it to shut down. Wasn't worth trying to fix; Out of warranty and there are 4 identical Precisions in the same closet that just need the SSD swapped with and TPM/bitlocker reset, and I'm back to work.

There is also no way in hell I can comfortably use the Precision in any setting other than a desk/table. I can take the C720 into the bedroom, kitchen, while I'm taking a shit, on a plane, literally anywhere and it is comfortable to use.

I like the Precision and it serves its purpose but I would never buy one for myself.

1080p is literally pointless on a >13" screen, it's the equivalent of having a 4k phone screen. waste of battery life and money

They didn't, but I felt one massive shortcoming they had was the lack of Android apps running natively. They kept promising that implementation was just around the corner but it never fucking came up until I got tired of waiting and sold mine again (at a profit, for some reason the Toshiba2 was really fucking hard to get in my country).
Not sure if they ever implemented it afterwards.
