in the early internet, forums and IRC were buzzing with people and there was a place for every topic. you could just hop on to talk about anything you were interested in - cars, photography, golf, anime, computers, anything
now that the internet sucks, all forums and IRC channels are for is tech support, and 'discussion' takes place on twitter, reddit, or facebook. the only places that still feel like you can discuss any topic freely are fucking imageboards.
