If you do the math, to even see 8k you have to sit 1/4th the screen diagonal away. So for a 24” screen you have to sit no further than 6” away. This is assuming 20/20 vision.

Hdmi 2.1 needs to use DSC, which it supports btw so it can support it technically. 8k@60hz is almost 60gbps at 8-bits, hdmi 2.1 is 48gbps with full bandwidth. For 12-bit HDR profiles like Dolby Vision it's like over 80gbps + some shit for metadata and audio or whatever. Probably like 85-90gbps.
DP2 when it's mainstream in a decade will be able to support 8k and 10-bit natively.

Look at a 30" 1080p monitor from 16" away. You'll fucking notice it. 4k on a 65" isn't enough, it's super sparse, worse than 24" 1080p monitors and you can easily notice a jump up to 1440p
