Be careful, sometimes urandom creates HD child pornography videos.

>not using shred

can you calculate the possibility using one of your cp samples user?

We're asking the questions here.

HA! no.

the drive was heavily encrypted to begin with. this is just a test wipe. I suspect the drive has power issues. it keeps dropping offline once or twice a day. If it doesn't this time, then it was probably kernel related.

my bad.

No discord, SIR!!!

keep us updated faggot

if it was encrypted already why don't you just wipe the luks header and the run badblocks after that?

I have no CP. Only windows users are pedophiles.

6.5GB...

as expected, this'll take a while. I'm hoping the stress will generate a fail. I really don't want to dig any deeper and drives are cheep right now.

Stressing the drive to try to cause a fail. as I said, it drops offline once or twice a day. IE: system becomes unresponsive, and I get a ton of drive errors in dmesg. decided to nuke and pave tonight... got into the partitioning and it crashed on:

# cryptsetup (big long string) luksFormat /dev/sda2

7.5GB

whoah, at least it was just a 120gb drive. Hope you made backups user.

Awe, drive failed at 7.9GB. Input/Output error and of course the drive is offline.

Next up, (sinse I'm not allowed to ask a question) Tell me what drive I should get!

M.2 port in an HP envy x360 (2018 model)

dude, I have redundant local and offsite rsync jobs running all the damn time. I'm good.

are you sure its not the m.2 port? have you tried the drive in another device?
nice to hear user, unlike that guy who made the 8 drive raid 0 array

I did a terabyte the other day. Not exactly sure what my brother used the drive for but not risking it.

No. No I am not sure it's not the port. but if it is, I still want to replace the drive... it's old, slow, and small.

I'll get a new drive, it that throws more errors, I'll replace the mobo.

Kinda eyeballing this guy: newegg.com/p/N82E16820147693

I'm guessing you didn't mean to reply to me but that's what I'm rolling a zfs arch install on right now. It's very good.

Why

strange... I'm getting a connection error when I reply to the gent two posts up...

I use btrfs on my archive drive (for snapshots functions) and ext4 on my root partition (for stability)... I did consider zfs once... but it just didn't seem to have the options I wanted... maybe it's time to look again.

why what?

you no longer need this but if straight dd if=/dev/urandom is too slow, you can use openssl:

openssl enc -aes-128-ctr -pass pass:"$dd if=/dev/urandom bs=128 count=1 2>/dev/null | base64)" -nosalt

Interesting... I've never thought of that before!

in this case, I WANTED to take a long time writing to the drive, I wasn't trying to actually delete anything because I have backups and the data is pretty well encrypted to begin with.

anyway, thanks everyone for entertaining me while I waited. I've ordered my drive. time for sleep!

night all!
