CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL

If you lack the motor skills to press Shift and other keys at the same time it might be practical, assuming you often need to type long sentences with all caps. That functionality could be inside Shift though. Like a different level of Shift.

this
also, ascended tier: to map escape to it on click, and control on hold

Unless you are programming in BASIC I don't see why I should use caps lock when I could type normally and use my pinky to press shift.
Cannot even map useful things since its a two-state key. But It would be cool to map backspace to it.
Exactly what I think, only boomers and older generations ever use caps lock at all. The type of guys that say "I dont touch type and i dont wanna learn anyways"

Legacy.
Typewriters had it for long all cap texts. computers keyboard layouts comes from typewriters and guess who were the people who used to type shit in computers.

Turns on your special abilities in GTA:V

the caps lock key is key lock in capital letters.
otherwise they would downgrade over time.

what the fuck, people actually press shift to type in caps? I've been using Caps Locks since forever

How else could you use proper capitalization when typing with your dick? Not every key is as close to shift as ? is.

Are you me? I tap it on and off to type capital letters.

DON'T KNOW
JUST TURN IT ON AND FORGET ABOUT IT

I work in a lab and one particular machine wants all inputs to be in caps so we just keep caps lock on.

THE FUCK IF I KNOW

I DON'T KNOW
I PRESSED IT AND ALL MY LETTERS ARE BIG SOMEONE HELP

How would I go about doing this? I already map it to escape with xmodmap, but what about control?

Better question, what is the purpose of capital letters in language at all?

Ease of readability

To indicate noise level. Caps = LOUD

to point what letters in a word you need o scream

# make CapsLock behave like Ctrl:
setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps

# make short-pressed Ctrl behave like Escape:
xcape -e 'Control_L=Escape'

I saw someone doing this the other day, I couldn't believe it. I always use shift.

capslock::Enter
in Ahk

If you are blind select a bigger font.
It is NOT easier to read a text with only capital letwrs.

thankyou user

inb4 it gets changed to an emoji key and when you press it all the letters a-z do an emoji.

to use it as backspace obviously.

It's for boomers. Or for people who capitalize normally with capslock instead of shift, like me. God bless my poor soul why do I have this stupid habit.

sometimes when I am very depressed I play with capslock, numlock and scroll lock.
I press these keys in rhythm of the music I hear and see the lights on my keyboard blink.
It makes me feel better.

aw

whoa i used to do this all the time as a kid

CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL

it seems to take more time to interpret the key as an esc at least in vim. if i used emacs the control mapping would be more useful i guess

Take a look at caps2esc if you don't mind running a daemon for this.

Entering serial keys

True. But it is easier to read with a few of them. Same with spaces, paragraphs, etc.

you can change the time by using
set timeout timeoutlen={milliseconds} ttimeoutlen={milliseconds}

I had this problem when I first remapped it. It has something to do with vim waiting for a second key very briefly to allow for mappings like
inoremap jk

>vim waiting for a second key very briefly
I think. Any other vimfags correct me if I'm wrong.

this is why you should swap caps with esc and ctrl with alt instead, that multi key shit doesnt work.

This is why

HI EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!
try pressing the the Caps Lock key
O THANKS!!! ITS SO MUCH EASIER TO WRITE NOW!!!!!!!
fuck me

NOW YOU'VE DONE IT!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
i love you dude, stay dumb please
fuck what a good laugh
oh god

YOU PRESS IT AND THEN ALL THE LETTERS YOU TYPE ARE IN CAPS.

LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR

>escape
Dilate. You need to map control to it. Only vim trannies map escape to it.

samefag

I map esc to caps+g and ctrl to caps

I map it to ctrl since I use emacs

Press the caps lock button

Almost all legal documents have sentences and sometimes entire paragraphs of all caps.

minimap toggle

According to one of the fastest typist in the world, Using CapsLock for capitalization instead of Shift is actually faster.
