Get either the SMSL M300 or the SMSL SU8.
The main differences are:
>M300 uses AKM chip while the SU8 uses the ESS chip. AKM generally tend to sound a bit more warmer while the ESS chips tend to be more bright.
>M300 is brick shaped while SU8 is a long rectangle
>M300 can be powered only using USB, but you need to have a newer USB source, SU8 requires power brick
>SU8 has a remote control, M300 doesn't

Audiophiles are always full of shit, doesn't matter if they are the budget variety or full autism variety.
Amplifiers that are not faulty and not clipping all sound the same, this is an indisputable fact backed by basic understanding of the physics behind audio equipment. There have been many double blind tests on this subject and evne on-going competitions for anyone to prove otherwise that nobody has been able to beat on the matter. There is a reason no audiophile review site provides double blind tests, because it does not fit the narrative of neither those who buy or sell the equipment.

I don't have any headphones with XLR connectors and I don't really plan on adding any, but it's always nice to have the option. I'm more concerned with the XLR inputs, nice for connecting a DAC.

But that's wrong. The THX 789 definitely has some advantages over the on-board amp on the RME. The ADI-2 DAC though bests the SMSL SU-8 and the Topping D70.

The frequency response is a little uneven, but it has very low distortion at the price point. Build quality is decent, but nothing to cream yourself over.
People who don't like it are probably bothered by the elevated response from 100-200hz, or the peaks at 2000hz, 4400hz, and 10khz.

DT770 does have an elevated peak around 9-10khz. You can tame this easily with EQ, but if you don't want to do that maybe look into the Audio-Technica MSR7 and the AKG K553 as well.

Focal spirit one s for $74. Or tascam th-02 for $18. You need to replace the pads for them to be comfortable though. The tascam are probably more durable than the focals. The focals are notorious for bad build/durability. Focals will have better highs than the tascam.

I just don't have enough budget for an upgrade right now and I'm really looking for a durable pair that will do the job in the meantime. These are as big as they look right? They're full size headphones for like adult western heads? I've ordered headphones before that seemed good but then they turned out to be tiny and sized for like small again heads. I don't have a large head or anything I just am kind of wary because I've been meme'd before by assuming its a normal size.

I'm just trying to be rational and avoid sensationalist nonsense that is all too common when reading anything about audio.
M50X is easily in the top 10 headphone choices under $500. After that though you have options like the Fostex TH-X00. I use MSR7NC at work which are very similar and love them.
At home I prefer my T50RP or HD650 though.

Wow... It isnt even in the top 20 for headphones under $200! Theres no reason to even consider the M50x now a days, even if you're ONLY looking for a closed, detachable cable set of headphones. The Tekstar pro82 do everything the M50x does, better, and at less then half the cost.
